Time for a rain dance?

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

Looks like we *might* get a small bit of rain tonight through Saturday. Nothing major by the looks of it, maybe a few tenths.

Seems like it's be an awfully dry April/May this year. I'm having to water every day, especially with temps in the 90's already.

I think Spring lasts about 2 weeks nowadays. Feels like we leap frog into Summer every year now. Same goes for winter. So much for those moderate seasons.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

We had a high of about 65 today and it may just rain. I thought the crazy weather was over. Yesterday the high was in the 90's so of course the air at our school wasn't working. It was fixed today, though. Yep, crazy.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

I been dancin' like crazy for a couple of weeks now. No result. Forecast for our little corner just changed. They were saying we had a decent chance of rain tonight, Now that's been moved to tomorrow. I just keep hoping. And watering. :)

lets pray about it... Dear God, please let it rain soon.... ( i'm serious... no disrespect meant to God at all.)
here it seems that it is like this: late feb - april is spring, may-early november is summer, fall is nov. - late december, winter is late december - mid feb.

Did you watch that super cell on the radar today Deb? it was pouring in College Park but not a drop on Miles Road ;-(

Oh well, I enjoyed the evening admiring and watering everything.

Would you believe we have had a terrible mosquito problem for the last few days. They swarm all over us, especially in the early evening. I can't figure out where they are coming from since it has been so dry.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I belive it .. I was swatting a few this evening .. just a few thankfully.

X: I didn't realize it had rained anywhere round here. We certainly didn't have a hint of moisture out our way (Central Ave-ish).
Funny, I got mosquito bitten while out watering this evening and was just saying to the DH that after the coldest, dryest spring in years - where did they come from???

SAME HERE!!!!! i was riding my bike in my neighborhood with some of my friends, and it felt like we were cars on the interstate. bugs were just flying into our faces! and when we were hanging out together, it was UNBEAREABLE!!!! but that may be partly because we were near a swampy area, as is almost all of Bluffton...

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

It seemed to pop up out of nowhere with 60mpg wind gusts and hail! Goose Creek got hit hard. It just missed Summerville.

I would be glad to shoo some rain your way. It has been going non-stop for about two weeks with just an occasional break for a day or two. We had been having very dry weather for a couple of years but I have heard where there are floods in some places now.

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

It smells like rain outside right now here, but yet, no rain. Seems the cells are hit and miss. We have 40-50% chances through Sunday now. So looks like we'll at least have a break from the heat. High's only in the 70's again... Spring is back from vacation.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Lol .. yeah I noticed the cool down coming too .. I have resisted mightily turning on the a/c and was giving it some serious thought whilst sweating inside the house with ceiling and attic fans going on hurricane speed. I did however put some cotton sheets on the bed.

Sigh .. still no rain and it doesnt really look like we are going to get any. There is a stationary cell forming above Savannah, but that's about it!

Let's keep those rain dances going!

At least it was mostly cloudy today so all the water I poured on the garden last night didn't just go "whoosh" in the hot sun. (Trying to find an "Up side".) :)

Maybe tomorrow..... (joining in your sigh).

See that green cell in NC?? It started to rain last night here...or early this morning, really...and is still drizzling down. I think the green is just sitting here.
I'll wish for a south-blowing wind.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Bev. Yes, please - when you're done with it. :)

Or maybe a gale to get it dow this far (savannah, GA area)

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

Still no rain here *sigh*

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

or here. *groan* *sigh* arghh! *another groan and a big sigh*

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Just read in the paper that the police were having trouble investigating a crime in the Cottageville area because of all the rain and bad weather. Huh?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Keonikale, just looked at the radar .. appears you are getting some rain! It's missing us here on the coast.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Here the weather channel said 60% this afternoon - tomorrow!!! :-@ -(woot woot!)

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Still overcast and threatening to rain here. High of mid 50's. Great day to plant my new hostas, though.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Still just clouds. All show and no go. Nice and cool, tho. (70s)
Deb

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

keonikale, it looks like yall are about to get some rain! lucky!

Lake City, SC

No rain in Scranton, SC today...a little yesterday afternoon...need more. Humming birds all over the place ... garden flowers/flowers doing great but have been watering like crazy.
Hosta's look really good this year. Any really neat flower shows, farmers markets, garden centers or festival in your area?
Lane

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi Lane, welcome to DG. You had a great idea there about the gardening events. I am always looking for good farmers markets and garden tours, etc. The sticky at the top of this forum lists good nurseries.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

OH HAPPY DAY!!!!

It started drizzling in the middle of the night then the rain came; 1/2" already and I am hoping for more. All my plants are smiling today.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

It rained here too!!!!!! Here is a pic of what hit us .. it was about 4am in the morning. Looks like you got a lot more than we did Ardesia.

See?? I finally got that green cell down your way! Whew!
Bev

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks Bev!
We got some rain overnight as well. (Yippee!!) Looks like about 4/10".
Ardesia, I'm glad you finally got a share. :)
Deb

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

8/10" for us! Yippppeeee

Everything is so green this morning.

Thanks for sending it our way tgg, you can do that whenever you wish.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Ditto! Everything looks great .. I've been watering my lawn so what did come down for me soaked in instead of mostly run off.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Just wish I had gotten some fertilizer down. The fear of burning things because of the drought had kept me from putting any out. If only I can be sure we will get some more moisture.......

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Aha! And that IS the question, isn't it. When will we get more? Hope we get some by mid-week.

Johns Island, SC

We got 2/10ths last night, which I consider an insult. Didn't help much of anything. Didn't even fill my rain barrels. Now they're forecasting gale force winds for the next 3 days, with a 40% chance of rain. Anybody wanna bet we get the gail force winds, but NOT the rain?

Lexington, SC(Zone 8a)

I won't take that bet. The wind was pretty bad around here today, I had to bring some things inside. This weather is nuts in general... chilly again, windy, hardly any rain - all just a few weeks after a freak freeze which was followed by 90 degree temps. Grrr

I think my plants are confused what season it is now.
