Forum searches?

Dave,

When I'm trying to search forums, first I have to plug in the subject. The program searches all the possible hits and THEN asks me about limiter like a particular forum or poster. Could all options be presented at the front? It seems this would use less processor and human time.

Since Google is working so well for plant files- other than the ads now tagged on- could it work for our forums? What would be the ramifications of that? I like the idea of fixing what we have rather than bringing in Google unless necessary because Google brings its' own ads with it.

Thanks,

Maggie

Maggie, whenever you are on the Home Talk or Garden talk main tabs, or within a forum already, click on the "Search" link in the colored bar of links (just beneath the site tabs) and you'll immediately have the ability to limit your search to a forum and/or poster.

Thank you very much Terry. I was using the big, empty box on the upper right of the page, under the tabs. So next question- what's this other search box for?

Thanks,

Maggie

The search box is for "everything under the sun" - search every forum and every thread. Sometimes that comes in handy, too ;o)

I was adding some plants to the PlantFiles, and when I added it to that long bar, under generalized search, it brought up adds for musical instruments. How do we stop that from coming up? I just want to do a generalized search and then add my plant to the PlantFiles. I do not want to look at adds about musical instruments. I thought we did not have to be bothered with the adds if we did not want them and I made sure that mine were turned off. How do I stop the adds from coming up when I do my search?

Also, I do not like the new google search because I only want to look up plants in the PlantFiles and that is all. If I wanted to use google then I would go to google.com. Do we have to use this?

Jesse

The Google ads are part of that search - can't be turned off, per Dave.

But you still have the same PF field-by-field search (via the green button) that you always have.
