Searching Plantfiles using google

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

I accidentally stumbled across a DG search tool using Google.. How did I do that? I routinely search my Google toolbar and have to type in the entire davesgarden.com before the plant I am searching for and it would be much better just to click here instead and type the name using Google..

Dave,

it seems not to work for me. Although I can get there through the links you supplied, it is not shown anywhere for me (without using your links). Is it because I have Windows 98?

Great! Love being able to search through the different areas separately, and it's super fast, too.

How are you all getting there without the link!??

If you go into Plant Files and go to the general search that's where I found it

The new google search is amazing, you can search in all kinds of ways, and it works really fast and accurate, thank you for adding it to the site.

Dave, it sure would be nice to get to this at the top of the DG tool bar and not have to spend time click click clicking!

It's replacing the old generalized search of PlantFiles, so the link for that search now takes you to the Google search ;o)

erm, not yet it doesn't - at least for me.

If I go to Plant Files and click "Click here to search for plants" or "Search plants," I don't get there. I have to go to "Search and Browsing Tools" then click on "General search" to get the Google search option.

kathleen, it's there. Go to PlantFiles and click on the green "search" button. On the next page, look for the hyperlink that says "generalized search" - see the printscreen below

Terry, I seem to get another screen when I click on Plant Files.

kaperc, click on the green button on the left that says "Click here to search for plants." That will take you to the screen Terry has the screen shot of.

Thanks, JoanJ, but that's what I did and I DON'T get that screen, as I said in my message. :-)

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Can you post a screenshot of what screen you see after you click the green button? When I do that I also get exactly the page that Terry was showing and I can't figure out why your computer would go somewhere different.

ecrane - I did post a screenshot. Look up there ญญญญ↑

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

That's what the confusion is then--once you're on that screen, that's when you need to click on the green button and then you'll get to the screen that Terry's showing.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Exactly ;o)

Sorry if I wasn't clear but you have to click on the green button to search for plants, then you'll see the option to enter as many (or few) bits of information in the field-by-field search OR click on the link to go to the generalized search.

Arrrghhh, but I DON'T get that screen when I click on that button!!!! I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.

Terry, you were very clear. No matter what I click I don't ever get that screen that you posted. The only way I can get to the "General search" option is by going through the Search and Browser Tools menu.

There's no reason to continue this, as I can't prove to you what I'm seeing and it is very frustrating. Perhaps there is some combination of options I have checked that is causing this. Thanks anyway, I know how to find it.

What browser are you using? IE, Firefox, or something other?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Kathleen, after you click on the green "search" button, what do you see?

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

This is definitely the twilight zone, Terry. I am now seeing the page you posted a screen shot of, including the 'generalized search' option.

I even had DH check it last night in case I was just blind to it!

BTW, I am using the SeaMonkey browser, FWIW.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Glad you're out of the twilight zone! (It might be those pesky sea monkeys playing tricks on you...you know how they can be! ;o)

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

You're probably even more glad than I!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Nah - it was just a puzzler ;o)
