Name becomes the Product

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

Just making my shopping list and wrote down Kleenex. Kleenex is now the word for "blow-your-nose-tissue" but it's not the only product of it's kind. Also thought of Saran Wrap; it is also a product name that became the product ID.
How many more can we think of?

Xerox. "I need to xerox that."

How 'bout "coffemate" for any brand of coffee creamer used.
Just remembered; "Coke" for any soda brand ie; "let's have a coke", meaning any pop you wanted to have.

My mother always Hoovered the house clean, never said vacuumed.

My son thought of RoundUp.
Hoovered is cute!
xerox, coffeemate, coke..great!

Another good thread, Jo.
There's something other than round-up:))?

Kiska, Adam said that coffeemate doesn't make the cut because at the restrurant nobody asks for coffeemate, they ask for cream or creamer. cream for liquid and creamer for dry.

Bummer - thought I had one, but I know Adam knows his creamer:))

The following may only have been a regional thing, but when I
was a teenager, the conversation would go as follows:

Want to go to Sonic?
Yeah.
Here we are, you want a Coke?
Sure.
What kind?
Dr. Pepper.

?? LOL

Same could be said about Reonolds wrap , like the Saran wrap.

or Ziploc.

or windex ?

I don't think this one counts, but we always called school glue, Elmers glue. It didn't matter what brand it was.???

That's a bunch that I hadn't thought of.
The Coke thing is funny; one day a asked a friend if she wanted a Coke, she said yes; I handed her one and she says, "do you have a Pepsi". So Coke has lost it's name to the soda wars.

For some reason I have never paid any attention to the bottom of the page where it says "This forum is sponsored by:"

I would like to thank Dutch Gardens for sponsoring this thread. And thank them for all the beautiful plants they have in their catalog. LIZ
