How long until pictures are added?

I've uploaded some pictures to the PlantFiles and was wondering how long it takes for them to actually appear on the PlantFile page?

I think it depends how many pictures have been submitted recently, but it's usually just a couple days or so.

So if I added something on the 15th it should be there by now?

It should be in by now, unless you submitted a ton of pictures at once, then they usually go in a couple at a time each day until they're all in so if you had a whole bunch then they may not be there yet.

Yes, I added some in that time that went pretty quickly. That's kind of weird. Can you look them up in the plantfiles pictures forum? And if you click 'my info' at the top of the page, it should tell you if you have images pending, etc.

There are a number of different PlantFiles Admins that review the photos before they are added permanently. I assume each has their own specialty (fruits/veggies, woody plants, roses, iris/daylily/peony, etc etc etc), and primarily work on pictures in that realm.

So, depending on whether they are working on the backlog at any particular time, pictures can "rest" for a while.

They'll get there eventually. After all...

Are you looking at the "live" view of the Plants Database page? Also, have you refreshed your browser on the pages that should contain your pictures? Try holding down shift while clicking the refresh button on your browser. That forces your browser to look on the website for the freshest information for that page rather than looking at your hard drive for cached information there from the last time you visited it.

The easiest way to check if they're in or not is to click on your name, then scroll down to where it lists all your submissions, then click on the link to your images and it'll show you which ones have gone in. Ones that are just pending won't show up here. Also, somewhere on your home page it should show you any pending images that have been submitted but not released into the database yet--on my home page this is near the top right corner but depending on how you set your page up it may show up somewhere different for you.

So I don't have any pending pictures and I've tried the shift{refresh} thing. No luck. I guess I'll just be patient.

Is it your iris picture that's not showing up? It's sort of weird, when I click on your name and then go to the images you've submitted, it shows up in the list, but then when I click on the link to the plant itself yours doesn't show up as a thumbnail.

But when I clicked on one of the other thumbnails that does show up, then it shows the blown up version of that picture and along the left side it shows the other thumbnails that are there for that flower, and then yours shows up.

I would use the "contact us" link at the bottom of the page and include a link to the Plant Files entry for the plant in question and see if admins can figure it out.

Is it Jungle Warrior iris that's not showing up? I just went to that PlantFile entry and it didn't show up, but when I went to the bottom list of tasks and clicked on Switch To Live View, it showed up then. It's because we were viewing a cached page I think.

Try that and see if it works for you.

I think there may be a bit of a hiccup with PlantFiles refreshing the entries when new images are added. Hopefully Dave can take a look at it ASAP.

Images typically pend in the queue for just a couple days - occasionally a bit longer if there's a huge backlog.

Now when I click on the link I had posted previously, all the thumbnails show up including got2Bgreen's picture, so whatever was going on must have fixed itself, at least on my computer

I just ran into one of mine that's weird--I submitted a picture to Lepechinia fragrans 'El Tigre' quite a while ago. When you look at this page, you can see the thumbnail for the pic:

If you switch to live view then it's there, but otherwise it's not.

Go to the bottom of the PlantFile page where the list of tasks is, like where you go to add a photo. One of the tasks is "Switch To Live View" Click on that and it will update the page to see the newest additions.

Like Terry said, there is a lag.

I did that, when you're in live view then the pic shows up but if you go back to the normal view, it's not there anymore. I submitted this pic over a month ago and other pics that I've submitted more recently show up the way they're supposed to. So I thought something weird was going on.

There used to be a lag of a few minutes for most photos (and edits) to show up in a PlantFiles entry...hence the "switch to live view" link in case you needed to immediately view the picture or changes.

However, I'm finding that some photos and information aren't updating even after days or weeks of being posted. I've asked Dave to see what's causing it. (The strange thing is it's not every picture or every edit.)

This one is in there now, maybe it's because I went into the live view last night, and then after that maybe it went in for real? The weird thing is most of my pics go in right away without me having to do anything so I wasn't sure why this one got stuck.

Nope, problem's still there. It's really funny, I was planning to post about this today too! I had gone in last night to see if a new pic I had of one of my plants was different enough from the ones I'd already submitted to justify submitting it to, and even though it had gone into PF weeks ago (6/15), the picture wasn't showing. So I checked a bunch of my other ones, and there were about 10 pictures out of the ones I submitted in the last month that also weren't showing. On all of them I did the "switch to live view" and the picture showed up, and now this morning when I went into PF all those pics are now showing up without going to live view.

It's happended to me before too.....several months ago. I was going through my pics and then went to the page for the plant and my pic wasn't there. I forgot which ones that happened on though, so I never said anything.

If you can give me some examples, I'll tug on Dave's sleeve ;o)

Hydrangea 'Jogasaki' was the one that I remember that was a problem last night (the 2nd picture, the one where the leaves look green rather than red). But today it's in there after I hit "switch to live view" yesterday so I don't know if that helps or not. I can't remember which of my other ones were doing it but they're all fixed now since I went through and did the switch to live view on all of them. I've got a bunch of pics in the queue now, so if you want I'll keep an eye on those as they get submitted and if I find one that didn't go through right I won't do the live view and I'll let you know which one is it that's not behaving.

Well, all of my pics that were waiting in line went in today (or last night?), I checked all of them and no problems, the pics are showing up like they're supposed to. I'll continue to pay attention in the future when I submit new ones and let you know if there are any problems then.

Please do that - we want to make sure the pictures are showing up within a reasonable time frame after they're moved out of the holding queue.

Hi Terry, it happened again last night. I had 12 pics that went in, and although they showed up in PF pictures forum last night, as of this morning if you go to that plant's entry in PF my pics don't show up. I spot checked a few other people's entries, and it seems like the entries that are on the first page of the PF pics forum went in OK, but when you get to the second page, there are a number of other people's entries right around mine that also didn't go in. But by the time you get to the bottom of the second page, those went in OK as well. So it seems to be a chunk of ones that are right around mine that were affected by whatever this bug is.

Here are links to the PF pics forum threads on my missing pics if that helps. I'm not including links to other people's entries since I only spot checked a few, but it seemed to be the ones right around mine that were also affected.

Hi, the pictures I've submitted over the last week or so seem to be piling up. Not many have been released from the queue over the last several days, and it appears none have been released over the last couple of days.

I'm aware that periods of heavy submission can affect this, but I'm seeing several from other users being released, so wanted to ask the question in case there's a problem. Thanks!

PS - It's not important to me that all of my pics appear in the newsletter.

Dave asked me to take a look (he saw your note before I did), and I'm happy to report that all but three of yours have been released (along with several other members' pending images.) I have been releasing them, but I think we had a lot of new submissions so things were getting a little clogged up ;o)

I followed your first link and you are right, the picture wasn't there. I scrolled all the way to the bottom and clicked on "switch to live view" and it was there.

Yeah, but I wanted them to see it before switching to live view. I went to it and the pic still isn't there for me. I didn't click on switch to live view yet though. Didn't Terry want to see it before clicking on that button? Maybe I need to read the last few posts again. LOL Too much bark dust got in my brain the last few days. ;o)

When you click on switch to live view, it'll sometimes be the next day before the picture shows up naturally on its own, it doesn't happen right away. At least that's what happened with mine from a week or two ago. I think it did help for Dave and Terry to see it before someone did the live view so your links may not help anymore, but I went in the PF pics forum and found a couple others that went in right around the same time as yours and they are also not showing up when you go to the PF entry. Nobody click switch to live view on these please!
