Happy Birthday Grampapa!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Here's another pic of their house. Last year they topped off the spruce tree in the photo. You can see now it's starting to die. They felt that no trees should be as tall as their house - even though the tree is downhill from the house, the cut the top off anyway. They sit on their deck and look down in my yard all summer. Grow trees, grow!

Same here. Way too open on one side in the back. Tried growing all kinds of things over the years but it's a deep shade and kind of dry. Finally I bought a six foot willow fence which I attached to the existing four foot chain link. It's nice and looks natural (I didn't want any more stockade fence) but still kind of see-through. I plan to buy another set and double up. Same thing as Harper - this guy's girlfriend or whatever, is always watching me. Did I mention I garden in the buff??

Gram - I'm sure you're right about the tee shirt.

Sofonisba - He'd be nuts not to want to watch you! The early Saturday morning action would have me wild. As for the kids and their quads: the kids will grow up but not fast enough, I'm sure. The dust must be awful.

Victor - will you ever behave? You'll have to get the neighbor's girlfriend to take a picture for us.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

You do Victor? What's your address?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor and Harper would make quite a sight for the neighbors.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Harper, I won't tell if you won't!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

If I had it my way, all they'd see is shrubbery.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Not saying a word Vic!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

This began as Grampapa's birthday thread. Now look what's happened!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Actually, we've come full circle - we're talking birthday suits now!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

YOU were talking birthday suits. My onlooker is older than my dad (75) and has no teeth! I garden fully clothed.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I sense repression. Sounds like one hot voyeur!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Ya gotta see it to believe it. He talks to me with his hand over his mouth because he left his teeth by the bedside and he doesn't want me to see.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny. When I was a kid the old man who lived in the apartment below us would take his teeth out and scare us!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That reminds me of my late father-in-law. He'd go to Florida for the winter months and loved to walk and watch the sights. One time he told us he had to stare for an hour to tell if this gal had the bottom of her bathing suit on or not. He was 89 at the time!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What was his conclusion?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

He was still scratching his head and wondering about it when we arrived to take him out to dinner but he must have done it many times.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

So obviously there are things to look forward to in retirement.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes! Laughing at traffic reports is the highlight of the morning. When Jack gets to staring at firm, young, tanned bottoms I'll let you know. He hates the beach, thankfully.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pirl, You're so 20th century! You don't have to go to the beach to see firm, tanned, bottoms anymore. Just go to the high school.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

LOL!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I really am "so 20th century". The high school is about five blocks away but when I pass it I see mostly "dungarees" as we called them in the old days.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

pirl, these days the dungarees are carefully ripped in all the 'right' places, though. places our moms would have mended. or they are slung so low on the hips they are in danger of of giving up the 'hip-hugging' altogether.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I have noticed how low they are and it's proof Newton was wrong about gravity. Do they use crazy glue?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

beats me. velcro maybe?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Do they still get graded for appearance on report cards?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

no, I think they would be in trouble pretty quickly if they did. I do remember in 2nd grade getting fingernails inspected every day for cleanliness and a check for a clean handerchief or tissue. I even had pin-on pockets for dresses that didn't have any to keep my hanky in.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

We have a semi-private high school here...very strict dress codes compared to the city. No cleavage, no bellys showing, no short skirts or shorts ect.... Thats why I brought my kids out here to the country!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Wow! They gotta reinstate the 'appearance' grade on report cards. They had left that off when I was in school. We sure could use it!

Vic, my uncle used to take his teeth out for my son when he was little. He'd try to scare him into brushing his teeth regularly. It worked!

Pirl, I love the story about your FIL. Wish I was there to see that!

Harper

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

In fourth grade everyone got check for "cooties" because one girl had them. That was oh so scary to us. I still remember the girl's name. Hey, maybe that's Dave's problem!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I thought 'cooties' were made up.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nope, its real! Got checked for cooties at my school to and I had hair down to my butt.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

So, what are cooties, then?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

lice

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Oh, now that explains everything.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dave - I believe it's now Middle School! I am absolutely shocked at how girls dress. Their parents need to be slapped. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop at dress. It's what they are DOING at these young ages that's really appalling.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

victor, I think the dress and behavior are related. these 11 & 12 yr olds want to dress like they are 17 so they can act like 17 yr olds. and the parents either aren't interested or think it's cute. I don't know...it's beyond me. my DDIL does not allow either the behavior or the inappropriate dress. I give her a lot of credit. my oldest granddaughter just turned 18 and has her first boyfriend. she still has a curfew and knows how to act like a lady.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

There was an widely read article a few months back titled - "10 is the New 15". Pretty scary.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

because "15" year olds buy more stuff than "10" year olds. to have a continuingly growing economy, we need to keep redefining more and more of the population as consumers. Kids can't simply be kids any more, now they have to buy stuff - lots and lots of stuff.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's minor (no pun intended) compared to the sex and drugs. Middle school girls don't think twice about providing 'services' to boys. A Psychiatrist friend told me that when taking a recent history on a HS girl, she reported that she provided that service to at least 60 different guys.
