The Best of Days

Lick Creek, IL(Zone 6b)

Sunny and lower 80's, can't ask for much better than that...but it was better. My 14 yr old had his best friend over for the week-end. What a joy, two happy, healthy, goofy boys creating memories for themselves. They helped plant trees, they moved rocks for a project of mine and they played. They fished, caught small stuff, laughed, "fell" into the pond and laughed, chased snakes and laughed. They netted minnows, frogs and turtles and laughed. They ate like horses and "demanded", "nothing healthy, we want meat". I was called into witnessing various acts of ignorance,ie; standing up on either end of the canoe in the middle of the pond, chasing the dog with a peeing toad, etc.
They simply played as only kids can. Their days are numbered of course. Next year is High School and the world will start putting more and more weight on them. But, for today, they were simply boys and I got to watch them. Without doubt, raising my kids is the finest job I've ever had. I frequently thanked God for the gift of these boys. I thanked God for for the gift of a great nation in which to raise them and sent my prayers to all those parents who are in pain.

So Sweeeeeeeeeeet yarapa.
You're blessed and thanks so much for sharing your weekend. We live in a great country and you're providing a wonderful home for those boys to stretch!

You know they say that when you go you can't take anything with you? I think "THEY" are wrong, it has always been my opinion that when you go the only thing you get to take with you is your memories. So to that I say always make them good ones and leave the rest behind, without a doubt your doing well.

Read your thread and remembered the wonderful times we had with our 2 boys and the multitude of friends they had...in highschool there were several children from Germany and England who spent the year in our area with parents overseas..they were always included in our family festivities...it was solovely when we had a gathering a few months ago to hear them all call me mom and recall of the fun days of youth in our home...you have same, the caring and the joy can be read from this post...they will remember those memories throughout their lives...what a great thing to leave them with...thanks for sharing...

lol, ok I grew up in an all girl family...but why chase the dogs with a peeing toad? And how does one get the toad to tinkle on que?

Toads tend to pee when you pick them up...who knows, its a toad thing. That goofy little dog goes everywhere the goofy kids go. If they hadn't chased the dog they'd have been chasing each other. None of the participants involveled had any more sense than that toad, unless maybe the dog, who had the sense to avoid toad showers.

lol ok thanks for the explanation...I now know not to pick up a toad. Little boys are still a total mystery to me. We had boys in our old neighborhood that loved to come to our house to play (why they found a 40 year old lady fun to play with I dunno) but they loved to play on the bathroom scale. They would weigh themselves after each bite, burp etc...with shoes and without. Also loved to play with my Foodsaver...if they could suck the air out of something I had to watch it cause they would. *LOL* I miss those kids like crazy!
