Gunnera manicata (Dinosaur food) Plant

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

I have one. I want to share it at the Mid-South RU, but whenever I dig up a 'baby', it dies. I believe the mother plant sends out runners, and the 'babies' grow up from the runner. If I cut the runner, the baby apparently doesn't have any roots.

Does anyone have any good information on how I can propagate this for my DG friends?

Thanks for any info you may have.

Hi Flowr,

I wish I could help, but every baby I've ever tried in a trade
has died, too.

Sure hope someone can help you.

Well, all I can do is dig them up, kiss them, and tell them to live with their new mamma. Thanks! I appreciate your response.

I would lay them in a pot and when they root cut them apart. I have done this with other plants.

The problem is, I don't have that many, but I guess that would be better than not having 'any' to share. Thank you.
