Spring Hoya Swap

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Ann that's what the trial will determine. My Doctor thinks that unless it takes away at least 80% of the pain, he won't do the permanent implant. He can't see having the operation and still having to take pain pills, which I totally agree with. I'll wear it until next Monday or Tuesday and then we'll go over the chart I've been keeping. It has helped the right side, but the left is where I had 3 knee surgeries and it's much more painful. Because of the placement, it's not working on my lower back at all. Time will tell.

Blessings,
Bionic A

I keep picturing Awanda in slow motion, with the bionic twang noise in the background, leaping over cactus and javelina to ward off some would-be hoya thief nearing her new fab greenhouse :~)

still praying, -joanne

Hey, I sent my swap off today! Should arrive on Friday to one of us.

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9a)

Dr. Kitty just an update, but the neurostimulation didn't work for me. I have a dead nerve in my lower back, so no pain relief for that area. My hubby pulled the leads out and I'm back on the happy pills:-).

Blessings,
Awanda

San Francisco, CA

Gosh, Awanda, that's tough luck. Sorry it didn't work out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one day soon they will develop the next stage of that technology, that it will work for you, and that you will be fully bionic once again.

Thanks Mark, I'm hoping that will happen soon! I kind of miss the electrical current running through my legs:-)

Blessings,

Has anyone found a cutting in the mail yet? I haven't but I'm crossing my fingers for this weekend. My birthday is the 29th and I'm expecting a cutting from this trade as well as some I purchased from another member here, and a few gardening books from Amazon. I love buying myself presents... I'm always happy with what I get and never have to make a return :)

I hope my trade partner is watching the mail today... I sent out some cuts/plants on Tuesday via priority mail and she's in the same state as I am.

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

I also sent mine out Tuesday, so I'm really hoping it got to it's secret destination today....I would hate for the package to sit in a post office all weekend!
Well, Mullettman, I think we can all figure out who your "secret" trade partner is now :P
So whoever gets their package first, maybe start a new thread so we can all brag about what we got?!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh, I got mine today from the most efficient and wonderful ______!!!
Gotta run so can't list right now, but she gifted me with several that I didn't have!

Mine will go out Monday to......someone.....LOL!!!

Apologies...I really was unaware that we were keeping names secret.....I've edited.

Mine won't go out until tomorrow.
Our already 'eventful' life here became more 'eventful' over the weekend, causing a delay.

Oh My! I got mine today and thank you so much to the person who sent it. I know we are not suposed to say who sent to us, so here is a big thank you anyway! I will Dmail you later:~) I will post pictures later and tell you all what I got.

I am sorry to say that I did not get mine in the mail today so it won't go out until Monday.

Thanks again to ......:~)

Mine came today also. Thank you so much. I got polyneuthera, multifora (which I've been searching for), carnosa and a great surprise, cuttings of phais orchid. I told hubby to wait on supper, I just had to unwrap and take care of the babies first.
I'm sorry that mine will not go out until Monday. I've had to be at work before PO opens, and get off after it closes. Monday is my day off, l so off to PO I go. After that, I have to take Shanghai to the groomer.
Thanks again for the great cuttings!!!

Congrats on your new grandson!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Congratulations on your new grandson, Susan. Enjoy him, because they grow so quickly. Before you know it, they are off on their own. You wonder where all the years went.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi Everyone,
Oh how well we know how they grow, our first grandchild is a girl name Nada Jade and she is going to be six in June. We also just found out her mom and dad are going to have another in about 8 months or so... :-)
William Gunner Francis was born April 25, and was 7pounds 3 ounces and was 21 inches long... The picture is from yesterday... He is a good baby for them so far...LOL My son is a Marine and he is only home for 10 days, but is 3 1/2 hours away and will not have to go back to war anymore for now he is an instructure. So I thank God for that one let me tell ya... His wife lives about 10 mins. or so away from us in there home they bought but after the baby is maybe a year she will move down there with him :-( but is better for them to be together then this that they do now... He does get to come home most weekends but is still a strain on them..
I still hope to get my plants shipped tomorrow if everything goes the way it is suppose to...LOL
Ok chewed all your ears off now...LOL

Just wanted to note on here that my package will be going out this week. My family has been staying with me while looking for a new place and it has been a little hectic.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok I sent my package by priority mail and here is the confirmation # 0306 3030 0003 2591 9813 So anyone can check to see if they are the one to get my package... LOL

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

So I'm guessing we're not keeping it a secret as to who sent us the cuttings? A few people already gave away their senders/sendees, so I'll just go ahead and say a nice big "YOU'RE WELCOME" to Joanne :-) I'm glad you liked the package. Looking forward to seeing how well they shipped (I hope they all made it), and also would love to know if there were any in there that you didn't already have. I hope the "surprise bloomer" in there bloomed for you (or is at least close to it!). I know how much you wanted to smell Lacunosa blooms, and I hope you get to :-)

Mine went out today to my secret pal : )

Mine is going out tomorrow with my 'secret pals' box.

Carol

Philomath, OR

Well Gabi, For once I was trying to play by the rules and not name names! But since you did, here is a BIG public thank you! I just posted on the other thread you started.

I did not have H. kentiana so I am looking forward to it growing and blooming, I do have the lacunosa (as you know) but now, thanks to you, may be I can smell those blooms this year! THe buds blasted on the cutting you sent, but with some love and home brew I am hopefull for more. Your plant must be huge! the one cutting is near 2 feet long! I so hope I can keep the succulents alive :~) I gave up on most of them when I lost my epis so this is fun for me.

Thank you again! God bless you and yours. -joanne

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Oh, I though you had Kentiana, Joanne. So glad I was able to send you something you didn't have! Sorry the bud blasted :( I was really hoping it would be blooming by the time it got to you...nothing like opening a box with a nice big whiff of Lacunosa flowers! But no worries, I'm sure you'll get it to bloom again. It's a constant bloomer for me. Yes, my Lacunosa is big (more "long" than "full"). Glad you're happy!!

Gabi

Philomath, OR

Gabi, I did have Kentiana but gave it away and have been wanting it again recently, so YEA! Thanks again for everything! -joanne

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

I have kept mine a secret. I dont even know the person... but how she likes what I sent... I sent 6 things... and was suppose to put a little pot planter thing in there and forgot.
Susan

New Iberia, LA

The last two swaps we didn't keep it a secret, were we going to try keeping it a secret again?

Dianne

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Oh No!!..If I would have known we were going to change the rules to posting what we receive and sent I never would have signed up because honestly I would be embarassed because I am just a pretty common Hoya gal yet as I am new.Well anyway,I am planning on keeping mine secret( I will d-mail a thank you) and I sure hope who I sent to does too because, while what I sent,I thought was nice, there is no way what I sent can compare to what alot of others are able to send.I am working on it but...I just don't have the huge amount of Hoyas to pick from to share yet..LOL...I think the point of keeping it secret was to avoid hurt feelings....like mine : (
Nancy

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

It was my understanding we were going to keep the names quiet and just rave over the plants!!! I received my trade yesterday ... and I am so VERY happy. I was sent rooted plants, beautifully grown and in beautiful condition: a Krimson Queen clone I do not have and like very much and H. australis which is one of my very most favorite hoyas in this universe!!! Thank you, Secret Pal.... They will go out onto trees where I can see them everyday!!!
Carol

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Cedar, I am new too! Hope that makes you feel better!

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Nancy,

please don't be embarassed, or feel bad in any way about the hoyas that you sent!! Everyone of us had to begin with one or two plants.....that is how most collections start - whether they are hoyas or baseball cards! Please let me know if there is a particular hoya you are looking for, I would be happy to help you build your collection, as MANY other hoya collectors have done for me. I think that as long as your heart is in the right place, and hoyas make you happy, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in any hoya cuttings....

Personally, like my kids, I just like to get something in the mail once in a while (that isn't a bill). HA!! I once did a secret panty (new of course) - chain letter type swap, and even though I didn't wear half of them, it was really fun getting a package from someone different every week!! anywayyyyy sorry if that was TMI :)

Nancy, I only have a few kinds of hoyas as well. It was my understanding form the get go that it didn't matter and that everyone knew that. So we are fine with only a few types we have. Dont stress over it.

I think most on the Hoya forum are like I am on houseplants, I never care if I get the duplicated ones either, I just use them for trading or give to my sis.

Charlotte, NC

snboyken is correct on how a majority here view this trade. Certainly many of us have gotten, will get, or gave duplicate plants. I haven't received my trade yet but when I do, and if I get duplicates, I won't care in the least. Chances are you didn't give away your favorite plant or cutting unless you saved some for yourself. If this is the case, you've lost nothing but a few bucks postage and part of a plant which you still own. But you may have gained a new friend and future trading buddy. Who says you can't buy your friends? :)

Duplicate plants/cuts are great for future trading. Just pot them up and send out the rooted plant at the next swap :) Your leftovers will make someone very happy in the future.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks everyone for calming words for the worrywart of the swap.Well all of you certainly have helped put my mind at ease. Now I can chill out and enjoy it...LOL I get stressed out and snap like that sometimes. Thanks for your kind words.
Green971 secret panty trade huh?LOL Well if something like this stresses me out that would certainly drive me off the deep end for sure.

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Nancy,

I almost didn't join the swap because I was worried that I didn't have much of a selection(even though I have a lot of hoyas, many are small cuttings). But I'm glad I joined, because believe it or not, what you might think is just a plain old hoya might be exactly what someone else wanted. And if not, who wouldn't appreciate another cutting, regardless of what it is?!

As for me, it was very helpful that people were revealing who their trade partner was in the past swaps, because I was able to look back at those "bragging" posts and see what my "swap pal" gave and what she received, so that I could have a better grasp on what she might not have that I could send her.

Either way, you do what you want. You don't have to mention your pal, and I'm sure your pal won't mention you if that's what you want.

Glad your mind is more at ease :-)

Gabi

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Nancy,
If you are like me in anyway I am sure who ever you sent to will love what they get... I am always happy with what I get ... I am not sure if it way you or someone else who sent me a cutting they said they could not do anything with or something like that... Well I am not the best rooter but it lost all its leaves and I do believe it is getting new ones...
I dont think people join these swaps to get tons of things... I know I don't I join to have fun and to chat with people who are nice and enjoy things I also enjoy...
Don't sweat the small stuff Nancy...

I know we're not supposed to say who our partners are but... Does anyone know Karen from NC. or her screen-name here? I'd like to D-mail her to make sure she got my package as I haven't heard anything yet.

Since my partner has been exposed... now she's not allowed to talk about the plants I sent ;) That will save me some humiliation I'm sure.

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

Mulletman,

The only screen name I see on this swap thread who is from NC is Gaiadisciple...did you send your package to Snow Camp, NC? If so, it is probably her. Try sending her a Dmail and asking if she's Karen.
