If you don't have a barometer get one. The newsies down here had a field day with the tornadoes that set down around here all of which where minor. The thing that aggravates me is their mantra of look at me, listen to what I say, we will keep you informed and safe. Pooh get a barometer and watch it instead, if a tornado is forming or is near you up to 1/2 mile away the barometer will start to fall. The lower the barometer the closer the tornado, act accordingly. Thats all I've ever used, the barometer will give you more than enough warning and it never ever fails. Its that whole physics thing.

Barometers
Thanks, yes I have one and it's interesting...it's also shows me when I'm most likely to have those migraines...
Kinda hard to watch for a barometer drop when you're asleep, though...I'd like a barometer and an emergency alert radio. ;)
I'll check to see if I can find a barometer that will drop a rock on your head while you sleep. ;)

My DH gets headaches when the barometer drops, so I have the living version that will wake me up for the event.
Ouch! My guess would be that your DH also has inner ear problems?

Scar tissue from too many concussions received playing football in high school.
Concussions are taken more seriously now than they were when he was playing, at least in this area. Coachs used to send the kids back into play after only a month. A few years ago we had a 16yr old die from a second concussion received from football. One of the '49ers retired shortly after that incident.
You know I've always had a problem with football due to the seriousness and frequency of injuries to kids who play it. I know of 3 personally over the years that are in wheel chairs for life because of it. In my opinion the price of the game is to high. My youngest son has a back injury that he got from high jumping that he never told us about and later he played football with no exam to be sure he could take it and from the added punishment his back hangs by a thread. Now he works on drilling rigs and I can't help but worry over his back which causes him extreme pain from time to time.

I was listening to a talk show on the radio the other day where the topic of discussion was sport injuries, specifically head injuries and kids. Two sports doctors were saying that anyone who has had a concussion needs a lot more R&R than we are giving them. Not only time away from the game to recover but also some time away from school or work because of the enormous strain on the brain. Their feeling was that the kids look healthy and therefore are perceived to BE healthy so are loaded up with school work which puts more pressure on the injury. Makes perfect sense when you hear stories such as yours GM & Snipe. My youngest son is a real tough nut, hardly ever cries and so I worry a little more about him because he is always banging himself from being soooo active. He broke his wrist when he was 2 and barely cried. I didn;t take him to the Dr's until much later on the day he did it and was astonished when they told me it was fractured. He was still running and jumping all over the waiting room. I would hate to think what he would be like on a football field!
PS: I have always wanted a barometer
wgnkiwi, there are some very attractive old fashioned barometers available that look like glass sculptures (in the event you aren't already married to a very handsome barometric model!). I used to sail a lot, so we always kept an eye on the barometer before heading out.

We call our dog Emma the doggy barometer because she is so sensitive to any hint of tension between us. We can just be joking around and she'll get all wilty and worried-looking, walk over to Howie and try to get in his lap, lick his face. He'll say, "Ooooh, are you a doggy barometer, Emmy?".
Sounds like a lot of folks could use a doggy barometer gardenwife. What are the chances of marketing your's. :)
Don
All our dogs have had barometric talents. Isn't that one of the reasons we like to have them around?
Yep. :)
We live in the middle of the woods and by the time we realized a tornado was out there it would be all over but the shouting. Maybe falling trees would alert us. My hus. is a day person and I am a night person so we have it pretty well covered. I would wake him up and he would wake me up. LIZ
