Stay safe everyone. I'm watching the weather channel and keeping you all in my thoughts.
The Storm of the Century
I figured I would put my two cents in... been raining here since yesterday morning... we have been pumping out water since 7:30 PM last night... EVERY 45 mins... lots of coffee and praying it really it's not gong to continue till late tonight
and I just read an email stating ...the lake that is down hill from me Indian lake.... there is another lake Estling lake that is just over a set of train tracks.... there is a dam that feeds estling lake that might break... well the good news is I live up hill from indian lake... bad news is there is only one main road out of here... we could be trapped
I am just here praying for the best... hope the rest of you are doing ok as well
Lost lights - twice. I thought a train was coming. No trains here. Then a plane was going to crash. No plane crashed - just the wind. Really rough night. Going to look if everything is still standing in the yard. I guess there is a lot of people without power in New Hampshire. I hope everyone is fine also.
Well, Suffolk really lucked out. We basically had nothing on the grand scheme of things. It seemed to be alot worse as you worked your way west toward the city.
How did everyone else fair?
Still have power, rain is coming down is sheets, whipping winds that sound like a train at times, but the snow is melting!
I'm so sorry everyone is experiencing flooding......I was afraid of that. We are looking at rain and wind for the next 36 hours here, there has been some major flooding on the coast. They have evacuated some of the Island's and certain coastal roads are closed.
I'm hearing about disasters all across the country from this storm......I hope all the DG's are OK! Bless all of you in the path of this horrible storm!!
Pixie (with life jacket and flippers on)
Just awful here, gusts of wind sound like a train is comiing to hit the house, just hope a tree is not coming down on it. I have no electricity but the generator has taken over , thank goodness. I don't wish this weather on any one.
It's a nice day to have a green house. Kinda like standing outside in all this wild weather but not having to deal with the reality of it.
Just had one of my gardeners give notice. When it rains it pours.
You Gardener is nuts! Who wouldn't want a job where you can be around beautiful flowers and plants all day??? Heck I don't get paid to keep up my 11-13 beds but I do it anyway...and Love IT!
Someone will come along and want the job just because they know how lucky they'll be to get it! Good luck!
Still doing well here, very heavy wind and rain. Supposed to get worse till noontime then ease up a bit. The power has blipped a couple times, will be surprised if we don't lose it at some point.
The dogs that do agility are a Border Collie and G. Shepard. B. Collie is the real star and the Shepard just loves to be in the thick of things.
Hope everyone else stays safe.

Started pumping basements about 8:30 last night. I got 2 hours with the pump then it went back to my neighbor and I got him going and it ran all night and got him under an inch by his water heater and boiler. He woke me up about 6 and we moved the pump to my house as I was getting water too close to the boiler for comfort and 5" deep in the corner with the sump pump hole. I will run for a couple of hours then take it back and run it at his house for a couple of hours.
My boss called and left a message that the company was closed due to flooding, which was nice of him. He called back again, and I thought it was because he wanted to make sure I was all right. Yeah, sure - he just wanted to know if I could get into my computer at work from home! Can't do that - guess it will have to wait (literally) until the creek does down. LOL
I have a foot of water flowing through my basement. We put two pumps on in my sister's basement and have the water level down about 4 feet. The river behind her house that's normally 100 feel down hill from the house is currently about 5 feet from her porch. Hopefully the rain's done.
Yank & jj, so sorry this is going so hard on you guys! Praying the rain stops in time before any major damage is done!! We have maybe an inch in the basement but the drain is taking care of it at the moment....will have to watch it carefully. Keep your chin up guys, and know it can't last for ever!
pixie - you are buried in snow sans Margaritas and you are giving us, who just are flooded encouragement? Incredible!
Yank...my snow is almost gone!! Can you hear my "Whooppee!!"
I can see ground...dirt is brown not white, so cool!
Good luck everyone! We did okay here. Lots of rain but no flooding for me.
We lost power around 10:00 pm for a couple hours and got water in the basement, but just a coating. Seems like the flooding was worse west of me and Anita but east of Victor. jjpm (John?), Good luck for you & your sister. That is hard to deal with.
We have state of emergencies in a few areas already and our high tide is still 1-1.5 hours away. The marine forcast is for 20-25ft. waves, roads have already been shut down is some areas. This high tide coming will be bad, but they are more concerned with the one at 11 tonight.
There is about 12000-15000 w/out power here in Maine and they say it will rise considerably. Our lights are starting to flicker, so I'm off for now.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!
Just the old freight train sound of wind here and not much rain at all. No flooding and no loss of power, thankfully. Sorry for all who have flooding but I'm thrilled that Pixie can see her soil again.
Good luck Pixie!!
Yeah, the waves are going to be phenominal!!!
Good luck to all the Maine folks!
Ok..update: 37000 w/out power. Saco & Wells Beach are getting hit hard!! Boulders are being tossed across people's yards and one house is expected to fall into the ocean as waves pound the coast line. (Watersedge..how close are you to the ocean?? Stay safe!!)
Trees have fallen across 2 different bridges, powerlines are down and streets are flooding at a rapid rate. The waves are now expecting to reach 25- 30ft and the winds are gusting at 50, 60, 70 and even 80mph at times.
May not be the storm of the Century but it's a dosey here in my neck of the woods!
Wow - be careful and good luck! Our thoughts are with you guys.
Cape Elizabeth has 81 mph gust....poor Mainiac!!! She is a DG member that I trust to tell me what Lilies will survive here....she has 100's!! Keeping her in my thoughts and prayers today.....please do the same.
watersedge clings to the pink granite cliffs, eyes squinting from the force of the wind and driving rain...............
Watersedge....hang on!!!!
One family who lives in Fl. during the winter months, left a car in the yard at their summer house here in Wells, Maine. The car was swept into the ocean about an hour ago. The house that is in danger is also in Wells, Maine and is still standing as of 10 minutes ago, but they don't think it will be for much longer. This is a tragic turn of events, but no lives have been lost so far, so I am thankful for that!
So sorry for all you Maine folk who are getting the worst of this storm. Prayers and thoughts are with you.
High winds and driving rain all morning. We lost power for several hours. I had to reroute on my commute this morning - landslide on Rt 101 closed the road down. What a mess. We have it good compared to you up North. Good luck to all of you.
**UGh.......%#*!!.........glug............can't..................take.................much.................more
SPLASH!!! watersedge falls off the edge hoping for a mooring or Mt. Desert Rock to hold on to.
thinking about all of you on the coast. I love the ocean but sure am glad to be far away today.
still no electricity, lots of trees and branches are down, had to drivwe carefully not knowing what I might find around a curve, had Dr, appointment, of all days!
My street is closed beyond the house, something going on up there.
So sorry for you guys up north, I have water in the cellar too, but not very much.
Last year we had those horrid monsoons flooding the rivers, now this.
I hope everyone is safe! Right now we just have light rain and lots of branches and some trees are down. Most of the beach roads have been closed and alot of power outages. We were very fortunate, we didn't lose power. But Shaws lost power 11 pm last night and it's still out- they lost all their dairy and frozen foods. We had some water in the basement but it wasn't much and the woodstove seems to be drying most of it up(puddles are gone now)
Very sad, in all the commotion DH and I forgot to bring in my small portable GH. You can imagine what condition it's in now. :( I've been running out inbetween the rain trying to clean somethings up. Top blew right off one of the rabbit hutches(one of our boys), tore the hinges clean off and the top (5/8 plywood) was about twenty feet away. Bunny is fine, think he was very happy to see me!! One of our gates(14') vibrated enough to pull the pipes, used to keep it closed, right out of the eye bolts. sending it to literally wrap part-way around the pole. It's so twisted I don't think it can be fixed. Well, the list goes on and on as I'm sure everyone else is in the same boat.
As long as everyone is safe, material things can be fixed or replaced.
On a bright note, this weekend is supposed to be VERY nice, I'm thinking the Margaritas sound pretty good!lol! Anyone have salt?!
It's a sad day for many reasons and the videos of Virginia are the saddest of all.
It sounds like Northern New England was really pounded by this storm. I hope all of you are well.
Down here, the wind wasn't as bad. If my rain gauge is accurate, we got 7.3" of rain!
The basement here and at my sister's is now only about 1/2 an inch deep. Time for some sleep.
If it helps at all the sun is shining here now so I hope it makes it up the coast with great speed.
Still gray and overcast here, with a breeze - but only rain, and no serious damage in Springfield.
My sympathies to those who have suffered flooding.
watersedge, still buffeted by gale force winds, bobs along, thankful that there might be an end in sight.............
After a very noisy night and morning on the mid-Cape--wind really roaring, a storm door flapping loose from its mooring, and some container plants swept off the deck--this afternoon the sun is peeking through and I hope other people are having some respite as well.
Well - I am officialy a New Englander - I own a sump pump! I had been using my neighbors pump when I saw HIS neighbor talking to him. Went over and the other neighbors house had flooded and he had no pump at all. Ran to HD and tried to rent a pump - as if! They had one flat of sump pumps left and going fast. It is 1/2 hp with a 1 1/4" hose and does it ever suck! Spit all the water from the basement out the window and through the tulip bed and down my neighbors driveway before I could get the hose moved around to run the water in my own yard. So I returned the smaller pump I'd borrowed and got it running in neighbor #1s basement. Went to neighbor #2 and he was in danger of flodding his boiler. Talked #1 into loaning the pump to #2 - hooked it up and got it running then loaned neighbor #2 my high rubber boots. I actually got some dirt and rocks moved around for the gas company to come and dig when neighbor #2 came to tell me that the pump wasn't running. I checked (soaking my non-waterproof boots) and he had pumped as much water as that pump would take out and he still had 1" left. Sump pump back to it's owner and hooked up and running after troubleshooting a kink in the hose. Told neighbor #2 to try calling the Fire Dept, Senior Citizens dept of Bridgeport and the Gas Company to try and get someone to get the remaining inch of water out of the basement. Any one got a better answer for him? I'm having some lunch and a very quick nap before I go to the dentist and then to class. What a day! I'm so blessed to have enough money to buy a pump and enough time to help my neighbors.
What the f*** is going on ib Blacksburg? I'll probably get censored again.
xxx, Carrie
