ves...wowowoowowwowo....wow yall have done some great work..; can't wait to see the project progess into green and flowers!!!!
when you said soft view or mellow lane ....something came to mind about my places name.....shady 'something'.....shady lane...shady hollow ...shady view; i think i want something more comical...but i think something with shady in it?
Alright Shady Lady Shady Sticks Shady Trees Shady Fence Shady Maize
The back hill was done 6 yrs ago and the rest all came after. I just keep adding to it evey year.
sticks... the white iron and fence make me think( victorian elegance ) .
ves ... you said ''rock beds'' (islands) Stone Island Acres?
Gosh that is good also. I have to start writing them down So I can see them all together.
Toofew what about Misty Lake or Lake Cottage or Too few Cottage
"Brigid's Puddle" -- my pekingese rescue is named Brigid. I suspect you can guess the "puddle" part.
I want a name that reflects the herb interest more than anything, though roses predominate. Here's a picture of the herb garden from a few weeks ago. Edited to ask you to pay no attention to the rug slung over the swing.

Shady Cats
brig ...very lovely...and to think all along i thought i was talking to someone by the name of brigid...and that you loved lilies...funny how this short circuit of a brain works...
to all...what a great bunch of brain stormin...
gardengus...i wish victorian elegance...but that is WAY too proper for this mess....but a HUGE complement......; i think i am more like victorian wannabee...or victorian hillbilly...
i love that shady cats...but hubby doesnt want us identified with cats as we are over city code and he happens to sit on the city councill.....
shady squalor or shady manor...even tho that still gives a little too much dignit;y to us...
Ha! Ha! Sticks. I got a good laugh from that reply!
you know when you say NOT to look at something everyone will look at the rug first.
The first thing that comes to mind is Herbal Arches, Twig Arches Herb Garden.
sticks that laugh was for the 1:45 comment.
ves....i know i know...and what is bad is that these cats arent ours....they were dumped slowly but surely...so we get them neutered/spayed...; our citys animal control is taking cats immediately to the 'country' and dumping them...they either get killed by coyotes, owls snakes or starve ; it is a town of 1800 with zero $...and that is the way they take care of it and it is not pretty; our recourse (so we have been told) is to have lots of bucks and a good lawyer to get this stopped...; we have neither....so we do what we can; it is a dirty secret of alot of small towns that my hubbie has learned from being in community service.... very sad; at least they don't do that to the dogs...but putting the dogs down is not much better either.
sticks, Brigid is the current rescued dog, and Lily was a former rescued dog. Someone started a thread once on how did you get your screenname and it was astounding how many people named themselves after their animals.
gardengus, maybe I'll name it The Twigs. I kind of like that. But then people would think Mr. and Mrs. Twig live there. Hmmm. Better keep thinking...
mao...it is more like a lego mansion; gorgeous...
A lego mansion in prettier colors.
ves i love the shady area
brig...i do corgi rescue work...glad there are people out there like yourself:)
ves love the final pic too....yall have done TONS of work
Sticks, all your white makes me think of 'purity' and as someone else brought up 'Victorian'. I know you like 'shady' ... how about 'Shady Victorian Purity'.
Ves, we have 2 nearby towns ... Flatrock and Rockwood ... naw, those names don't work.
Maoza, I love the name 'Lego House'. The neighborhood kids chose a perfect name!
Stick, here is the picture of the front of the cottage. Told ya, nothing special. I haven't had the time or inclination to start any gardens here yet. When my Dad owned it, he wanted the easiest thing to take care of, so only grass was allowed. We are working ... slowly ... on changing the inside ... just a little.
A picture of the inside. Gives you the feel of the cottage. I want to keep the red maple throughout. More of a Hunting cabin feel than a cottage on the inside at least. Hubby and I don't hunt though. I really want to have a small Lantern collection on a shelf somewhere in the cottage ... both oil and candle. Have several already, but no shelf yet. LOL
Last picture:
I have 2 brothers that own cottages on this same lake. I have 6 other siblings (7 of us total), so we have huge gatherings at the cottages in the summer.
'One of Three' popped into my mind when thinking of the 3 cottages.
Here is a picture of me and some of the other females in the family ... and Dad. Can you guess who I am? LOL
Sorry, turns out I can't make the picture any bigger.

two few....lovely lovely place...; i would LOVE to have it and the view also!!! keep up the dream....you have a great place to work with;)
This has been a lovely thread .Last year I found out that the place where my great great grandparents came from in Scotland was named 'Tulli allen' which is Gaelic for 'Beautiful Hill ' -I would like to call our place that ,though ours is more of a mound than a hill .In the meantime ,I have planted bluebells for 'Bluebells of Scotland '
Emelle.
Emelle, do you know the word for little in Gaelic? You could call it 'Beautiful Little Hill' (or small).
I grow some (campanula olympica ) Blue bells of Scotland.Wish I had a photo. My grandmother was Scottish (McGee) Nice photo.
Mine aren't the 'Real' Scottish bluebells -just the common Spanish ones ,Still ,I like to think they are special .
emelle.
What a fun thread! I'm trying to think up suggestions for Sticks... "Shady... Purity" just seems like too much of an oxymoron, but toofew is right about the peaceful, Victorian feel of your place. "Shaded Gables" came to mind, and then I realized it was more your garden than your house that had the Victorian archetecture going on... What about "Shady Arbors?" Your view also makes me think of tranquil names like "Still Waters." Or maybe there's a way to combine the shade garden and water themes -- "Clematis Cove?" "Hellebore Harbor?" LOL
I've been thinking about this for my place. I want to repaint it, using a rich deep purple for the areas that are currently mint green, a light purple for the areas that are dark green, a sunshine or lemon yellow for the accent color above the porch (currently maroon), and white for the metal areas currently painted black. I was thinking "Carolina on My Mind" -- I love South Carolina, but then again with the purple thing going on "Plum Pleased" might be nice. Or maybe "Plum Crazy". :)

Plum Shady! Like the new color ideas. Carolina Moon!
I am a child of the 80's .... But purple n yellow are my two favorite colors. :) I just made this primitive shaky crayon-Warhol-thing for my own reference. I'm glad I did. Um. Midnight blue and sky blue with yellow would look really nice.
And obviously these color choices would not be for everyone. :)
-Joe
With that yellow -- not Plum Shady! More like Plum Sunshine!
Don't be shy about using a really bright yellow for that accent color, either. Some friends of mine have a little victorian-style place in a south Chicago community... They painted it a lovely plum purple, some cream trim, and they used a really bright red for an accent color. It's gorgeous! And they literally stopped traffic, LOL. The house had slumped into a rundown state, paint faded to near grey, porches sagging, etc before they moved in, and now it's the glam house on the block!
joe...i love your home just the way it is...but i also understand 'never being satisfied' and wanting to do something else...something else...and something else (grin)
very lovely home you have;)
Thank you sticks n stones. :) I have also thought of cornflower blue for the main color, deep blue for the accent, and again my yellow for above the porch. I love it too, but one of these days it will need repainted, so I am dreaming a bit. :)
