What do ya'll think?

First page looks good....I soooo had an urge to click on resources to see whats there. Will we be able to search for landscaping ideas and things garden related? Are you going to keep the forums?

All of those decisions are really up the members here. I'm willing to do whatever we all agree is best.

Resources currently links to the copy of the Garden Watchdog and the Garden Bookworm. My plan is to remove both of them from Gardens.com.

Landscaping ideas, gardening related information, etc, will continue to be present through the articles, and the forums (the beginner ones) will be kept.

I LIKE IT!!!! Woohoo!

Much more enticing than the old layout. Looking forward to the new "look" and design.

I think you're on to something here.....something great.

Something that would help me (and we may already have this and I just haven't found it) is being able to look up where to buy supplies I need - clear plastic pots, long fibered spagnum moss, coarse perlite. These are things I've tried to find locally and can't. It could be like Plant Scout, but Supply Scout, or something. I know I could use Google, and I have, but it brings up tens of thousands of links usually, and once I find an online store that sells them, I have to come back to Garden Watchdog to see if the company is listed. It's just a bunch of trouble. Is that feature something that would be appropriate for Gardens.com? It may be way too much trouble, or not a good idea at all, but it was a thought.

I would love to have a feature where I could do a search for say, pathways, and have a hundred or so member photos come up for reference...I would use it constantly, I'm sure others would too. Maybe here on DG then..hint, hint...
I still can't see the need for the forums, since the beginner ones are already here at Dg....I think gardens.com has to be a unique entity, seperate from what's available here....
The name implies gardens, so it should include ideas to enhance our gardens, photos for reference, the articles are good, places to visit that have beautiful gardens...member rated.
I really suck at putting the words in my head into type...hopefully you understand what I'm getting at.....

That's a fabulous idea, threegardeners! Photos to help us come up with our own ideas.

And I hope it's not too forward to suggest this, but perhaps the slogan (motto, or whatever) of Gardens.com should be changed. We grow our knowledge here at DG. How about "Grow Your Ideas" or something like that for Gardens.com?

As much as I'd like, I can't take credit for that idea...read something like it somewhere in here, and it apealed to me so much, I can't get it out of my head!!!

This very thing is being planned for landscape.com (we also own landscaping.com). Trish is working to put together a list of features and they are talking about it in the Curb Appeal forum.

So, it looks like everyone is liking the idea of moving/converting Go Gardening into Gardens.com - am I seeing this correctly? Our slogan at DG has always been "By Gardeners, For Gardeners" and I only want to do what the membership really likes.

Can't wait to see landscape.com, that's a site I think I will love too!

I figured it out.

Is there a section here that links all of these sites together? Like on the homepage something along the lines of "Don't forget to visit gardens.com etc?

I'm a creature of habit and to be honest I had forgotten completely about the other site until yest? I saw it in another post and clicked the link.

I spent a good amount of time last week looking for basic black pots. Since GW came in to play I'm very hesitant to buy from any company that doesn't have high rating. I think there was a greenhouse supply? grouping but I couldn't find the smaller pots I was looking for.

Dave, you rock!

Dave,

Very spiffy, Dave!

I have a couple of questions. Will 'Go Gardening' be removed altogether from DG or will we still be able to access it via the tab 'Go Gardening' at the top of the page of DG? Has it always been available to non-subscribers or is this new?

I forgot about the other site, too and I'd be less likely to add info to Go Gardening if I don't have a visual cue and, frankly, if it's not a part of DG.

I'm envisioning relaunching Go Gardening as Gardens.com, which means that Go Gardening will be available only at Gardens.com. It would become a much larger feature with many more features. The "Go Gardening" tab up top would link to Gardens.com.

Yes, it's always been completely available to non-subscribers.

Will there be a membership fee down the road for Gardens.com, will DGr subscribers have access or do we have to subscribe separately?
And am I reading it right, DG will no longer have a link to go gardenening?

If I understand Dave's message correctly, the current link for Go Gardening will take you to gardens.com which is where Go Gardening will be. So you'll still be able to get to it from here.

Fran,

I'm not planning on limiting any Gardens.com features to subscribers, but if we as a community decide to do that, then the DG subscription system will be used and DG subscribers will automatically become Gardens.com subscribers.

Thanks for the quick answer Dave.
