When everyone else was complaining, I was just sitting here thinking how lucky I am that my computer is soooooooooo fast. Well, not anymore on DG.....everyday it gets slower ....does anyone know why???
DG site getting slower by the day on computer
I'm w/you. Every once in a while during certain times of the day, I just log off because it is so frustrating to wait on every little thing when I get the msg "waiting for Dave's Garden".
Ann
what is so weird is that I have wireless high speed and a new Dell computer.....I know it is not my computer or server because I fly elsewhere on the internet. It takes soooo long now to wait for a new thread , etc....
Same problem here, and we're on Cable. It's only DG that is dragging!
I think it's because at certain times of the day DG is sooooo busy, that has to affect loading times...I find the same thing on certain game sites I go to.
For me it's only DG that is slow to load the forums
It's always been very fast for me...
Hello, dave!!!! Patience is not one of my virtues.....and the slowing down won't ever keep me off of DG!!!!
You are funny .....you, also, are a computer genius and I am computer challenged....have a good day.....we won't nag you anymore!!
gail
I've also noticed long waits loading and searching lately. I'm on wireless high speed.
The only slowdowns I have noticed are when I need to clear my cache of internet pages saved to temp files. I have it set to empty when I shut down but sometimes I forget to shut down for a month. Once I clear it out things fly again.
It is odd that it seems to effect DG first but then there are more DG files in the cache than anything else... I don't know if that is why or not. But it does indicate the problem is with me and my computer and not the DG system.
I just play around on DG learning what i can and visiting....but I don't save anything......
Unless you have set your browser options to never cache pages it is done automatically. The idea is that it reloads the pages faster from your cache but it also means that you will be seeing a stored version of the page unless you refresh it.
Zanymuse,
A nightly dose of Disk Cleanup (XP) is good preventive maintenance. I run it just ahead of my Spyware and Registry cleaner and just prior to backing up.
....but just a minute or two with Disk Cleanup may be all that's needed.

I am laughing out loud.....this is Greek to me.....I have to call the computer tech when anything is wrong.....
zany and dwd,
I just ran disc cleanup and defragged, and it helped considerably!
I have a monster hard drive, but even with all that free space, regular maintenance still helps a lot.
The computer tech told me that i was using 6 percent of my available space....i don't think I have those problems..gail
I have been having the same problem, and it is only with Dg.
If you're using Firefox, never restore the "Old Session" always start a new one - you won't lose your tabs.
I use Firefox and it remembers me....but I don't ever not log out and log in (if I forgot to log out last time)
I emptied the cache and it helped.
None of you should complain,....waaaay out here on my tiny island all I HAVE is dial up. Sooooooooossslllllooooowwww. So I post - do laundry - post - make lunch - post.....check back tomorrow....In other words....consider yourselves mightly lucky folks!
It's been really slow to view other's photos and some of the forums come up slow too for about a month now. I've emptied my cookies and have DSL, so it shouldn't be that slow. The past few days it has gotten a little better I've noticed.
A.
If I didn't have to pay the High Price for DSL, I would consider myself lucky...

I was having some issues with pages here loading slower too, but I took one of the above suggestions and cleared the temporary internet files from the cache and everything seems much quicker now. You have to clear the temporary internet files, I don't think clearing just the cookies will speed things up that much.
Right, ecrane3.
Yes, the temporary internet files were cleared also, that's probably why it got better for me.. I love it..
Thanks guys..
A.
You people are not going to believe this......it is not Dave's fault that my puter was slowing down....she gave me perfect instructions...(pekasky) to clean up the computer and it worked!!!! I am now flying around the internet faster than ever following her instructions....goodness gracious....want to stay in touch with this extremely nice and helpful lady.
gail
she told me to delete temporary files, cookies and history....works for me wonderfully....

I have heard (not proven yet) that if you are using a system with a tower (not desk-top) model it often helps to occasionally disconnect the wires, pull it out from under the desk and moon-walk around it, then push it back and reconnect.
I suspect someone was pulling my leg as I can't figure out why this would not also work w/a desktop model?
gessiegale,
can you send me those instructions? I need help..lol moonwalking hasn't help me.. lol.. just kidding.. but in all seriousness, if you can please send me the instructions, I'd appreciate it. When mine was done it was done over the phone with the DSL carrier and I sure did not have time to write it down.
THank you..
A.
here they are....clear instructions even for me....it works...
just saw your messages on DG about the above and thought I could help.
First, even though you're only using 6 percent of your computer, that doesn't affect your temporary files and such. You only have so much room to store them before you start slowing down.
Here's what you do: Click on Start, then click on Control Panel (2nd column). Once you're in Control Panel, look for something that says Internet Options. Double click on that. What should come up is a menu called Internet Properties. Look for something that says Delete Temporary Files or just Delete. Click on that. Don't worry, you're not deleting any of your real files. Now you can delete your temporary files, cookies, and history. This should be done anytime you find your system is slowing down.
Or just put the Disk Cleanup icon on your desktop....
smarty pants!!! i wouldn't know how to do that either!!!
I'm sorry I struck you that way.
I'll leave this to you, the thread starter, but what I suggested is XP 101.
I am teasing, silly.....everyone who knows me knows I can't keep my computer going without help.!!!!
I really don't have too many serious bones in my body (LOL)
At my age, I don't think i would have the patience to sit that long......the only classes would be an hour away....
although, I confess I certainly should take classes...
I especially would like to learn to use a photography program real well....I have premium 10 photo something, but it gets too complicated for me...still trying though

Thanks for the sweetener.
I like the response!!!!!!! That is cute but I was NOT intending to be ugly in anyway, I promise....
I believe you, Sweetheart,
Good night.
Dave
oki doki, gonna go try it. THANK you.
A.
it really made my computer faster, but I just uploaded some pics in dmail and it took forever.....good luck
I was having allot of the same problems. I had satellite. I even thought something was wrong with my computer. I took it to the shop for an over haul. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. Which was fine they didn't charge me anything. I come to find out it really was my server. The tower I was coming off of was constantly bad, which they found out mainly from my reports. I was a pest can ya tell. lol They switched me to DSl and I don't have any problems except once in a while I get a lag. I think that must be when the traffic on DG is at it's highest. All the info mentioned above is great, getting rid of Temporary Files can help a bunch.
I hadn't even thought of that....I have absolutely no choice but wireless out here in the country, so I need to be grateful that i don't have anymore problems than I do. This wireless only became available in the last 3 years!!!
We only have verizon telephone available but no internet service from them.
