Nancy, I have been to the Butterfly Conservatory, but not for years. it's absolutely worth the trip. I'd love to go again.
Dave, I got the brochure from Wild's. very tempting. maybe next year.
February's Coffee in April!!!!
Well, I spent about $80.
Good morning, all. I hear we're getting some Spring-like weather by the end of the week. Finally! I am happy that the storm wasn't as frightening as was anticipated. Still, power loss and wet basements are no fun.
I think it's over.
Hi nap. The worst is over but we will have rain on and off for the next couple of days. Really raw this morning!
Does this nursery have a web page? I tried googling - but didn't get anywhere.
Maybe because I invertted the initials (It's G.H.): http://gilberthwild.com/
OK, Dave, wuhdja get?
Hi Nancy! I noticed you were gone - it wasn't 'out of sight, out of mind' for me! Welcome back!!!!
Harper
Daylilies: Wineberry Candy, Happy returns (only $2!) Blackeyed Stella, Siloam Grace Stamile, Strutters ball, Ed Murray.
Lilies: Baja, Grand Cru,Rubies
Reblooming Iris: Clarence,Feedback, Immortality
Hosta: Twilight
Dave, you won't be sorry you bought Gran Cru! I have had it for 7 yrs. and she is still going strong.
I have all those daylilies except Siloam Grace Stamile, and I just planted Immortality last summer. I bought it because it's a re-bloomer!
she? how come all plants are female? How does Ed Murray look? is she nice ;)
All the daylilies I bought are supposed to be rebloomers.
But, Thanks for the positive feedback on Grand Cru.
I think Ed Murray used to play first base for the Orioles.
she did?
Ed Murray is dark and handsome.....need I say more?
I was thinking more along these lines

Thanks for the fine "welcome back" Harper and Victor too. What a great bunch you all are. Everybody says so.
Gram, I checked out the Butterfly Conservatory under "Niagara Parks". When you went, did you take pictures??

Just found a great recipe for organic fertilizer on Mother Earth News. Good timing to toss some on the beds
Nancy,
I thought of you during the storm this week, remembering what an ordeal you went thru last fall. Glad to hear that it didn't happen again this time.
Dave,
I have some peonies fom Gilbert Wild--I haven't had any problems with them.
I've got Ed Murray in my front yard. He wasn't nearly as dark as your photo pixie. More like a rich, brick red.
Thanks for the tip alyrics. I love Mother Earth Living.
Loretta, I like that you thought of me. Yes, that was a bad one, alright. It has been very strange weather, all over. Hmmm.
Good to hear that Loretta. Thank you.
Nancy, we must have taken pics at the B'fly conservatory, but this was before the digital camera. So I don't know where they might be. this got me thinking. is a passport required for entry into Canada now?
Dave, I like your list.
Harper, does Mrs Murray know?
No - there is not a passport required for entry into Canada. There is, however, a passport requirement to return to the US if you are flying. :-) So don't drive to Canada and expect to fly home.
I expect that eventually, merely returning to the US at any border crossing will require a passport.
Americans are lucky - it only costs $90 for a passport and it is good for 10 years.
Unfortunately, in the past Israeli spies used fake Canadian passports - so now Canadians pay $90 every five years for passports. The passports cannot be renewed but must be reapplied for. AND we have to have a guarantor for our pictures and signatures. The guarantor must be employed in a specific approved occupations (like lawyer), they must have known you for at least two years, and they can't charge for being the guarantor!
I guess the Canadian government didn't like other people's spies faking our documents. But you have to admit, it was a good cover until the Israeli spies were caught. No one ever suspects the Canadians . . . .
Gram, shhhh!! Don't tell! I'm enjoying him too much... although he's not a lot of good right now, he'll find his spring! LOL
Seandor, lol..."No one ever suspects the Canadians..."
What's with the newbie thing? Someone want a wisecrack-free thread?
Yankee, you lost me. Newbie, wisecracks free? (I didn't know we could charge) But, really, what did you mean?
Are you referring to NENC? The New England Newbie Club that Kassia and I started? Of course it is not a wisecrack-free zone! It where we newbies can freely laugh (and cry) over all the silly things we do!
You have to admit . . . some of the stuff Kassia and I have done is kinda silly - but it's the result of inexperience combined with near lethal enthusiam.
But that's okay. Given the family history, I figure I've got another 40 years to master gardening.
What an amazing weekend!!!! I can't believe it almost hit 80 degrees! I really got alot accomplished. I rigged up a home made inground sprinkler system too. I'm pretty proud of myself. Now I never have to worry about my babies getting water!
Anita, Very impressive!
Wow Anita - do you have any info on it?
I thought the same thing, Anita! BEEEEyooootiful Weekend!!
And as for water, we had a couple of deluges here today and the moss growing between my patio stones was dislodged and pieces of it were everywhere! I tucked it back in and I hope it will survive. I love its rich, green velvety softness.

I just bought extra hose and buried it beneath mulch or lawn, hooked it up to the oscillating spigots and attached them to timers that are specific to day and time. I had tested it last fall in the front yard and it worked like a charm - now I'm good to go! Alot cheaper than a professional irrigation system.
Very clever,that Anita.
I'll say. Nice going Anita!
Anita, what a savvy gardener you are!
Hope you marked where the hose is!! Why did you choose a spigot instead of a soaker hose?? Just wondering.
She used sprinklers.
I know - the question is why do that instead of using soaker hoses which are more efficient and can be buried or covered with mulch.
