Make-a-Wish
Our daugher Satori is a big gardener and has always wanted a cottage garden playhouse. Because she uses a power chair we have never been able to find any playhouse she could fit in, and the cost of building one was astronomical. Last summer she went to MDA summer camp and the Make-a-Wish foundation got the camp roster and called us because Tori wasn't in their system.
Well, long story short, Tori was granted a wish from Make-a-Wish, she chose a playhouse big enough to drive her wheelchair into and around inside.
A local developer Reynen and Bardis has chosen to partner with Make-a-Wish and build Tori’s dream playhouse. They came today to do a site evaluation and I just had to tell someone these people are so fantastic! They took a picture from the cover of a Sunset book on cottage gardens and they have sent it to their architect to draw up plans for a 10’ x 12’ version. They are trenching power to it, even putting in ac (summers hit over 100 quite often here.)
Satori is so excited she can hardly stand it!
It is easy to get jaded in the world we live in these days. It is really nice to see that organizations like this really do make a difference in kids lives and it is even nicer to see that big developers (who could be focused on nothing more than the bottom line if they wished) are going out of their way (and pockets) to give back to the people in the communities they do business in.
That's wonderful! I'm so happy for Satori. How old is she? I'm assuming she's still young, but this playhouse will continue to be her own space for a long, long time. Especially since it has power and A/C. :)
Make a Wish Foundation is definitely doing what they say they will when we give donations. Therefore, I continue to support them.
Tombaak, that's wonderful news. I'm delighted for your
daughter, and for you as well. It's good to see our children
have a special source of comfort and joy. A space of her
very own - marvelous ! When she gets older, she might
want to use it to listen to music or to paint or read or anything.
Joan, she is 7 and a half.
Mahnot, she has said from the start it will be her art studio, she does a lot of painting and likes to write and illustrate little books. It is being built with a drafting table designed for her and book case etc. She also has lots of plans for sleep overs etc. They asked me about giving her a gift of some landscaping since our desert yard looks nothing like the pic. I told them i can handle the flower garden and if they want to give her something she will really like to get her a gift certificate at Michael's. She loves that store, she gets all her arts and craft supplies there. So i think they are going to surprise her with a bunch of art supplies as well!
This is the picture she gave them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0376031077/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-6915768-4976105#reader-link
WOW..and you say she's 7..sure knows what she likes..tombaak, I've always wanted a little grandaughter to pass my artistic talents to...have mega art supplies on hand that will get thrown away..i.e. oils, pastels. etc. If you would allow me to, I would mail them to her....know we artists are always on the lookout for craft supplies...lol...
Betty, Thank you for the lovely offer.

Melissa, I'll say a prayer for Satori...I'm sure she'll get her little art studio...posted photo for her re package I'm sending..maybe she can organize a few projects to entertain herself..let's hope..know how very disappointed she is...know how impatient we are can you imagine how she must feel....your prayer circle will pray and I'm sure by Friday you will have good news...
Couldn't make it to the post office yesterday as planned but have it ready for lunch hour...I included 2 envelops with 4 brushes in each...I've sent about 18 for Satori knowing her interest in painting and also patterns suitable for her age.....I've included a letter asking that she share her talents with her little sister and cousin one aft. (hope that's okay) ... probably take about 1 1/2 wks to 2 weeks to get regular mail...hope things are getting closer to her having her wish come true.....I'm praying....
Have a great day...Betty
Didn't explain myself properly..was in a hurry to go to lunch..posted the parcel today..the two envelops included with Satori's is for the other two children..couldn't find the post that gave me their names...know they'd want to paint along with Satori so thought this might be a good idea...bye for now
