Digital cameras. Help?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Unless the driver I am downloading at this time
will fix my camera problem, I am in the market for
a digital camera.

Folks, I'm a bit on the cheap side. My max for a camera
is about $150.00 tops. I checked out the cameras at our
local mart store, but all of them were sold out...a heck of
a clearance sale.

I noticed these newfangled docks, but is that just a fancy
gadget to get you to spend more money? I don't print.
I just upload to the computer and if I need them printed, I
take the gadget to the local mart store.

Keeping in mind how cheap I am (LOL) can anyone suggest
a good basic camera?

Guess what? The driver worked. For now. Pfft. I've had the
same Polaroid PDC 640 Photo Max forever. I mean, seriously.
It is the only digital camera I've ever had. LOL. That should tell
you how old it is.

Picture is of our new dog, Sophie (Sophia when she's naughty)
She's grown quite a bit since the camera quit working right.

Wuvie we just got our first digi camera about 3 weeks ago, its the HP M525v. I got it because it was simple to operate and understand. 6MP but it loves AA batteries. They were selling them at the mart.

Hmm. Don, is that the camera you are using to upload
the images of those beautiful babies?

:-)

Indeed but that one above is by a portrait studio of Larina at 6 months, everyone was amazed that she looked at the spot where the fairy was.

I've had 3 digital cameras and checked into different brands and all before the last one we got about 2 months ago. Most people think that the higher the mega pixel- the better camera- no. It's just the higher the pixels, the better LARGE pictures it will make( ex. like a poster ) The Wal-Mart here were a bit higher in price. I ended up going to Circuit City (after the Sunday sales came out) and got a Nikkon 6.2 megapixels with 5x zoom with a memory card-total was around $130.00. It works great and also has 25 minutes of movie and sound(like a camcorder) It simple yet fancy.
Hope you get what you need and want. My new baby boy-Justan- born March 23rd. He's a little over a week and the camera has been working over time. Advice-rechargeable batteries. They really don't cost too much compared to having to rebuy batteries constantly.

ejennings after you hit the end of your zoom does it start a digital zoom? My HP has a 3x zoom after that its digital.

Nikon makes a few good quality digital cameras. Data transfer is quite simple - buy a cheap card reader that hooks up via USB. Remove the card from the camera, stick it in the reader, and bang.. just like having an extra drive in your pc.

High-MP cameras are "all the rage", but you may want to do some homework on the average size picture you'll be printing. If you don't intend on doing really detailed photography (i.e. birds mid-flight on a sunset, bird being a half-mile away, your main focus on his feathers), a simple one will do. Ignore the 4-7mP cameras - probably not necessary to shoot pictures of kids & grandkids.

Lots of neat camera review websites out there... good luck hunting!

Don-my book says that at 5x zoom hold the button down for 2 seconds and it goes to digital zoom allowing 4x more for a total of 20x magnification? I haven't used the zoom yet~now I want to try it out!

Angelsong- I take my card out and stick it straight into my computer and there they are. Of course after I had plugged my USB up is when I figured that one out.

Elizabeth,

That is what is wrong with my camera, the smart media hole
is basically stripped, I've put the card in and out so many times.
Half the time it won't read. An alternate reader would work, too,
but I just use my cable and got it to work again.

IMHO & from experience, digital zoom works good on a tripod, but isn't good for much else, unless it's a super high-end camera.

Some older computers don't have a card-reading drive directly on them, that's why I recommended a card-reader.

Well ejennings maybe I play on the computer to much but heres what I have noticed about the pixels and that being uploading to the net. The larger the pixel rate the more you can do with the images without degrading them. I have also noticed with others users it will also depend on what their computers can do in terms of their soft ware. I have a blog for all the grandkids in order to share with the family as a whole. If there are not enough pixels in the image they cannot save it as a large image for wallpaper and such. I also know how to enlarge an image just to look at it on the screen in detail and again it maybe clear in a smaller version it becomes distorted when I enlarge it and there is nothing you can do but go "oh well". So merrily I say give me the 6 mp so that I might go forth and play!

Don- it just occured to me after reading what you wrote that the picture I have as a desk top was taken with a disposable camera and put on a CD. IT is grainy looking compared to my pictures with new camera. It looks like I'm in good shape b/c mine has 6.2mp.

I kept my usb plugged in since it was so hard to get back there to plug in. I'm sure i'll have to use it again as much as I take my card in and out. LOL

Can someone tell me why I don't have a floppy disk drive in my tower? It's an emachine.

Elizabeth,

It is my impression that floppy drives are getting to be
like cassette players anymore.

:-)

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

WUVIE- do you know how i could transfer the info. from them to my computer or something?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Actually it is certain companies that are trying to get rid of floppy drives. I had my machine built for me and Will gave it all to me, according to him floppy will be around for a long time to come whether the big boys like it or not. I still use my floppy a lot. The ucb devices are expensive and easily lost. You can have a floppy drive installed in your machine pretty easily.

Well there went my rebate check I'm getting from when I bought it.
I should've noticed that right away!
Thanks

Guess what? Guess what?

My son came to visit yesterday! When I returned from town, my
husband said "Honey, that's a very interesting flower on your desktop."

As I looked down the hall, I could see what appeared to be a daylily
on my computer screen. Thinking my son must have placed a gallery
of my flower photos online, I walked towards the screen and sat down
at the desk, trying to figure out what I was looking at.

I knocked something over in the process, and when I looked down, noticed
batteries were falling off my desk which had been lined up like soldiers next
to a brand new camera, case, and all the paraphernalia associated with a
digital camera!

My son brought a digital camera for Mother's Day for me! I'm so excited!

It is a Nikon Coolpix L11 and I'm in love with it! I haven't had a chance to play
with it, but I love it already!
