How Many Cars?

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

This may be easy for the younger crowd, but those of us wanting to forget our birthday, there may be a recall problem.:) Can you list all the cars you have owned from the 1st to the present? Which were favorites?

1955 Plymouth; 1957 De Soto; 1964 Chevrolet; 1967 Chevrolet; 1962 Corvette; 1969 Chevrolet; 1974 Ford Pinto; 1978 Datsun; 1982 Subaru; 1984 Ford Ranger; 1993 Ford Ranger; 1997 Plymouth Voyager; 2003 Dodge Caravan.

The 1955 Plymouth used approximately 2 quarts of oil a day; some called it "Old Smokey". I said to a girl friend, "I just washed the car." She replied, "What did you use, acid?" What can one expect for $50?

Edited for spelling.

1974 Ford Escort, red, purchased around 1979, shared with hubby.
1979 Ford Pinto, red, purchased around 1982, all mine.
1984 Ford Escort, red, new! (I started working shifts and at last made serious money).
1989 Ford Probe, red, new (my ideal car: red and sporty, with tons of trunk space for gardening supplies, and great traction for winter driving).
2004 Mazda3 Sport, red, new (the Probe finally died, boo hoo)
Next vehicle: A bright red Ford Mustang, to be bought as soon as possible. However, ff they still made the Probe, I'd prefer another one of those...

2003 Silverado

Missouri City, TX

1953 Plymouth Cranbrook - 3 speed on the column - first manual transmission - I ruined the clutch - sold it back to the dealer and went back to my bicycle - 1960.

1954 Porsche 1500 - used about as much oil as fuel - engine siezed as a result - man that bought it from me put a Corvair engine in it - 1964

1964 Datsun Fairlady - Raced this car - then dealer traded me out of it and campaigned it for years - 1964 - 1968

1966 Datsun 1600 - car had 36k miles when I got it - 10 months later had 175k miles - took it in for some tuneup and transmission work - dealer traded me out of this one, too. - 1968

1969 Datsun 1600 - Worst trade of my life. Gave it back and walked away after driving less than 20K miles - 1969

1965 Malibu SS 289 Convertable - actually this was my wife's car - had it when we met. - 1969-1972

1959 & 1961 Simca's - Bought the pair for $20. Had to swap engine and transmissions and put in the '59 body to get it to run. Had a lot of fun, but electrics were a mess, and the 4 speed on the column was a joke. Cut a hold in the transmission tunnel, welded a bolt to the shifter arm, and had 4 on the floor, but with an unside down shift pattern. Very few would attempt to drive it. Traded it and got $100 on next car. - 1971 - 1973

1966 Datsun 1600 - Traded the Simca - had a blown head gasket - repaired and drove until I blew another head gasket - kept in garage and sold to a friend who had an identical car that got totaled. Helped him swap his engine/tranny into my body. - 1973 - 1979

1968 Mercedes-Benz 220D - traded the Malibu - I have regretted this trade for years, but loved the Benz - My first diesel - should have learned more about the care and feeding of a diesel first. Probably put 100k on top of the original 191k, but eventually it swallowed a glow-blug and siezed the engine. Repair $$ was more than I could afford - dealer was willing to take it, but no money back. - 1972-1974

1975 Honda Civic Hatchback - Dealer almost wouldn't let be test drive it - thought I was too big for it - Great car - auto 2-speed with a pre-selector box. Fun to "eat" VW hot rods. - 1975 - 1977

1977 Honda Wagon - 4 speed manual. Fun, but not as good as the hatchback - was hit and totaled in 1978

1978 Mazda GLC - automatic - truly a Great Little Car! Put on 165K before blowing a head gasket - traded for next car. 1978 - 1980

1979 Mazda GLC Sport - used - manual 4-speed - outstanding car - had 143k miles when traded in Colorado - 1980 - 1984

1975 GMC Crewcab w/454 - the Barge - had 191k when I bought it, put another 160k on the truck. Used it on the move to CO,and CA, and back to TX. 1979-1994

1983 Subaru Turbo Wagon - CO winter - needed 4x4 for comute form Denver to Co Springs daily. Fun, but turbo tended to eat itself - replaced twice. 1984 - 1989

1990 Subaru Legacy LS - still have this one - over 300k - drive it daily. Friend calls it a "clown car" because of all I can load in it - 16' ladder and enough tools to build a house. 1989 - present

1999 Subaru SUS - still have this one, too. approx 139k. Like the extra ground clearance - "what curb?"

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Luckily I haven't had too many cars though..

1981 VW Rabbit Diesel
1979 Honda CC (or was it CCC?)-EDIT: I remember!! It was CVCC!
1980something Buick Skyhawk
1980something Pontiac Sunbird
1994 BMW 3series PIECE OF CRAP!!!
1995 Honda Del Sol (my mom still drives it! :)
1999 Honda Passport (sold in Dec w/198,000 miles on it)
2002 Toyota Camry

Not cars but..
2002 Honda Rebel 250

June, I had to share your post with DH as he had 2 Probes and would have more had Ford not failed us and quit making them (and supporting them as well!) He shares your sentiments exactly! When his died this past fall, we considered the Mazda3, but they were in between model years and didn't have any in stock.

To keep in line with this post we've had:
1992 Dodge Shadow
1994 Ford Probe
1997 Subaru Legacy Station Wagon
1997 Ford Probe
1998 Subaru Outback Sport
(a few Ford Rangers we owned less then a year each)
2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Rosemont, ON(Zone 4a)

Thanks, Iagardenwolf. Now, if we could just get a few thousand Probe fans together to lobby Ford to resume production...
I'm not going to hold my breath!
I only hope I can buy a Mustang before they stop making them too.

We also had a truck in there somewhere, but didn't list it because I never drove it....and I didn't list the kids vehicles....Since it's just me now, I tend to stick with what I know and like...the Altimas.

This was a fun idea, made me stop and think for awhile.

Let's see....in the order in which they came into the family....

1972 Chevy Impala - Silver with White Top - Parents gave to me when I got married.

1967 Rambler Rebel - White with one purple door (yes - there's a story there) - DH's car from his parents/college. The door was replaced because my DH's dad didn't put on the break on a hill and the car with door open rolled down the driveway - hitting the brick wall at the end of the drive....door came from the parts yard. It was hard for DH to hide any of his escapades....everyone knew that car.

1982 Pontiac J2000 - Navy Blue - First new car we bought as man and wife. Was a pretty good car - drove the daylights out of it and had to replace the transmission after 110,000 miles.

1965 Rambler American - Light Blue - inherited from DH's grandmother. Car only had 43,000 miles on it when we got it in 82. Unfortunately, sitting is just as bad as running up the miles. Burned oil like crazy - and if you opened the hood, you could actually get in there with the engine - A LOT of space. Bad thing about this was that it had no air - and I drove it back and forth to college in Baton Rouge, LA - IN the summer - heat and humidity. I had a pair of white gloves I used to drive with - cause the plastic steering wheel would be so hot.

1989 Ford Taurus - Champange- Second new car we got. DH got it for salesman job. He drove it well over 100k miles - and ended up totaling it by hydroplaning into a guardrail. Very sad cause it was a good car.

1992 Mazda Protoge - Dark Grey - Third new car we got - bought for me after college graduation. It was small - but a good car. Didn't keep it long after paying it off because we wanted a van.

1997 Chrysler SE Voyager Van - Rallye Package - Ameythest - First van we bought - 4th new car. Traded it in this year at 110+k miles for new van...

1999 Toyota Rav4 100,000+ miles and still going strong- Sapphire - what DH got after the Taurus was totaled. He LOVES this car - especially the gas mileage. He'll probably replace this with a new Rav4 next year.

2006 Toyota Sienna Van XLE - Desert Sand - brand new - got in August 2006. LOVE IT! My favorite car so far. We've made several trips (cross country) in it already and it's just so comfortable - easy to drive - and it gets good gas mileage relatively speaking. I've gotten as high at 28 on the highway and 22 in town. Average highway is about 25/town is about 20...darn good!

This was fun - I had a blast looking at old car images trying to figure out (i.e. remember) which Rambler's we had.....still some out there that look darn good too!

Cars?? No. My great grandfather had a Cheverlot in the 1920s or 30s, but it appears he sold off unable to maintain costs. My grandfather had one probably in the 40s, but he did the same. My uncle had an old Morris, second hand or "nth" hand - it gave him helluva lot of problems.... he lost a lot and gave it for little or nothing - in the mid 60s. My father could not afford more than a bicycle. My grandfather and his father finally relied on the old faithful bicycle. It's my favourite too, but we now have 3 two-wheelers. I cannot think of a car for the same reasons as my forefathers. More people are buying a lot of cars these days here, they have money, they buy more as a status symbol more than its necessity - plenty of brands, plenty of comfort inside the car -- yet, no space to drive on the road comfortably! Well, I have one Japanese car, but it is in my showcase... it's a toy of the 1930s, my favourite! LOL.

Dinu

Salt Lake City, UT(Zone 6a)

My current car has been with me for 13 years Subaru Legacy - my favorites were my Skoda's - they do not have them here in the states......miss them - fun little rally car. Little lawn mower type engine that even I could work on, fuel efficient & not spendy.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5b)

1955 Chevrolet 210 sedan
--same color red as a Marlboro pack (can you guess how Dad picked the color?)
--black vinyl interior that would peel layers of skin off your legs
It was my first car and I still have it. I have told my husband that the car comes first, he comes a close second.

2001 Chevrolet Silverado stepside, 2wd, v6
I wish it was a v8 but I love this little truck and every good gardening gal needs her own truck to haul plants, soil, pots around in.

Since I've gotten married we also have a 2002 Avalanche which is more fun to cruise around in with friends with all the windows down than to haul anything and a 2006 Cobalt that my husband drives to work.

Yes we like Chevys. I grew up in such a household and was given the 55 at birth (Dad thought I was going to be a boy.) Growing up, all of them were red and all of mine are red. *laughs*

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

I've always been a car keeper (pretty much). Once it's paid for it's mine for around 10 years. I hate having a car note. This list does not include DH's vehicles - we'd run out of space for that list!

1977 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird. I just turned 17 and went to Hertz to buy it. My dad almost croaked when I pulled it in the driveway! He turned beet red then sheet white! LOL!! It was his fault - he told me "If you want a car - go buy one". So I did. A parents worst nightmare!

1982 Ford F-150 - A sterotype, but I think all Texas women have to have at least 1 truck in their lives!

1985 Pontiac Sunbird - Realized I still needed a car - so I kept the truck for a while.

Traded the Sunbird bought a

1995 Saturn SL1 - Great car - Loved it too!

Sold the truck in 2001. Bought a

2001 Mercedes C-240 - Reeeeallllly love this - it's one Sweet ride.

Sold the Saturn in 2004.

Wow - I've only had 5 vehicles!!!!!!!!

Next on the list is a Vespa for local crusin'!

Westchester, IL(Zone 5b)

Well, my list is going to be very short, lol. Guess I could include my parents' cars, too.

1975 or '76 Dodge Dart - lt. blue w/ black vinyl interior - I loved that car, you'd stick to the vinyl bench seats in the summer, though, ouch!

1974? Dodge Diplomat - ugly butterscotch color, which was repainted to an ugly lilac, lol!

1988 Mercury Cougar - lt. blue w/ blue interior(?) - this was my Mom's car and she LOVED it! Unfortunately, it had a digital speedometer which quit working, so she couldn't drive it for awhile. Mom couldn't make the horn blow, lol, so Dad installed a doorbell button where the cougar's head was (in the center of the wheel) - and that would blow the horn... that was too funny, LOL!

1987 Buick LeSabre - gold w/ gold interior - this was my 1st car and I LOVED it! It was built like a tank and had power everything, lol. We used to affectionately call it "The Beast," lol. Sold it to my younger cousin sometime after 2002. It died soon after, lol. It was on it's last legs, anyway, though.

1996 Chevy? Monte Carlo - "wild cherry" color (dark red glitter) w/ gray interior - this is my current car and I LOVE IT! The dash reminds me of a plane cockpit and you can fly in that thing, lol! Probably going to have to get another car, soon, though, cause it's been having problems for a few years.

1999 Ford Escort - gold w/ gold interior - this is my dad's current car. He speeds around in it like it's a little go-kart, LOL!

2001 Buick LeSabre - silver w/ silver interior - Dad did buy this for himself, but traded with Mom for the Escort, lol. He said it was too much of "an old man's car," cause you couldn't go fast in it, LOL! I still like it, though. It has the best radio/stereo of all the cars, lol.

That's all the cars we've had for the last 30 years, lol. Both my cars ('87 LeSabre and Monte Carlo) were my dad's before he gave them to me. If I have to get another car soon, I dunno what I'll get. Maybe an Intrepid... I'm used to the long, fast cars now, lol. And I don't think they're too expensive. Now what color to get? Lol.

What fun.
I will try.
My first car
1965 ford galaxie 2 door convertible with leather seats, light yellow with black. Big huge boat like car, but with gas at 26 cents a gallon...no problem.

1967 mustang, bought used in 1973. It was orange, but someone had painted it white. You could see the orange in spots.

1976 ford that looked like a cadilac, what was that thing called? Oh yeah, the dreaded Granada. First car bought new. I thought I was hot stuff in that car. Ha

1984 firebird my favorite ever, This car was purchased new and cost more than my first house. (and that had 3 bedrooms and an acre of land) drove it for 13 years. Engine lasted almost 50 thous, trans went after that, but replace both and went on to be DD first car. She of course crashed it.

1996 big white gmc extended cab long box pickup. It was our around the woods vehicle, as I worked at dealerships and had company cars to drive. (oh, those were the days...sigh) Now I drive the beast everywhere. Good thing I don't drive alot anymore, it is a gas guzzler.

We also own a 2004 grandprix that is an exceptional car. It has 140 thou on it and hopefully is going to give us many more miles.

Orlando, FL

wow...something I had not thought of in years. Should be easy.

1965 Ford Falcon...silver blue and got it for graduation...first in my family to graduate. Dad paid $550 for it. I drove it 15 years...had it rebuilt at 529 thousand miles. I cleaned the inside with needsfoot oil to keep it subtle and repainted it every 3 years. I sold it for $550 for a graduating girl in mint condition.
1976 Chevy Malibu wagon. drove that for 10 years
1986 Olds 98 it was a lemon...and I swore I was going to park in a lake bottom. When the transmision went out...I said find me an 89 98 and for same payment I refuse to take this thing home.
1989 olds 98 Regency broughm I still have it. IT is reliable and only needs a touch of body work. That is it for me.

One day I want a convertible just for kicks and giggles...the beach is only 45 minutes away.

At this point, I could still see the pavement when the hood was open, and I knew where air filter, and points were, and how to change a tire, did, several times. Those big cars had big engines too. At least they kept my safe thru several little 'scrapes'

I'm a bit of a car nut, heres my favorite three, a '67 Impala, a 39 chevy coupe and '56 chevy truck. The convertible is a daily driver in the summertime. I do have some practical cars but life's too short to waste on practical.

Glad to see this thread popup again.

Had a minor wreck in the '99 Subaru SUS in late October - traded next day for a 2008 Legacy. Lots of "new" features in 8-9 years. First car that gets better than the EPA mileage estimate - averaging almost 26mpg since we bought it.
