Has our personal info been given or sold to companys that sponor different forums? I have received several catalogs from company that have adds on different forums that I did not inquire about. example Dutch Garden, Garden supply etc.
Receiving mail order catalogs from forum sponsors.
In a word, no: http://davesgarden.com/about/index.php?page=privacy
At any rate, no one's profile has a mailing address, so if you received a catalog, it most likely came from a purchase you made, and that company sold your information to a mailing list.
Every spring I always get myriads of garden related catalogs, most that I never asked for simply because I signed up or bought something somewhere in the past. It's just coincidence that some of these are advertisers here, the ones' you mention are big name ones too.
I would bet that is absolutely true. I order from only a couple plant vendors and get a lot of catalogs from a lot of companies.
Too bad the vendors I choose to buy from sell my name and address info. That is disappointing.

Thank you for your response, However it is odd that I have never received any catalogs from these companys until they starting sponsoring forums here. Was just concerned.
Thanks again.
I think it's just coincidence ;o)
the catalogs should be printed in paper we could dump in our compost pile...too bad we can't ...
I'll add that we don't even have addresses in our system in a convenient place. These days we don't even collect your address when you subscribe (we used to do that). So even if we wanted to sell your address (which we never will) we couldn't.

I agree with everyone who's saying it's just a coincidence. I subscribe to a lot of gardening magazines and I've also bought a number of gardening related things from various places online, so because of that I've gotten on mailing lists and I get tons of catalogs from places I've never bought from. I don't really mind the extra catalogs though--I know which ones are the bad apples because of Garden Watchdog, and I've gotten occasional catalogs from places I wasn't familiar with but had something that I wanted that I hadn't seen elsewhere, my attitude is you can never have too many gardening catalogs! I throw out the ones from places I know are bad and browse through the others.
Look at those unwanted catalogs in a positive manner. Spred them out and use them to block the sun from unwanted weeds. It works! They die!
Coincidence it is then. Thanks All.
I didn't realize there was such a thing as an 'unwanted' garden catalog! :)
I read them all, you never know what might be in there, and I have learned lots of things from them. They're cheap too. ;)
Hey at least you guys get catalogs!! LOL. They quit sending them to me for some reason. We even ordered from one a couple of years back and they still won't send them. But the good thing is I work at a garden so I can look at all the catalogs there. :)
