Great growing Nancy! She looks great! I have one more cutting in water that has roots ... need to take some more and get them rooting in water! Funny, I took some cuttings and potted them up and no roots yet ... they don't look too good either. Maybe I will just stick to water rooting this plant since it seems to work!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Thanks Lin,I just love it.Its over 2 foot tall already.Do you have any idea how big they will get?Need to know whether I should Jumbo Pot it. : ))

(Zone 1)

Nancy: They get up to 4' tall and 4' wide also! So you will need a larger pot eventually! Mine is pretty big and it's rootbound in a 3 gal pot. I need to either pot it into a larger pot or get it in the ground real soon! It's been rootbound in this pot for 2 years now! They like real bright light down here in Florida but no direct sun or it burns the leaves. The leaves seem to curl if they are getting too much sun also. Mine is located in my pool enclosure ... a lot of sun, but it is filtered by the screen. I don't think you could ever give this plant TOO much water ... it Loves Water!

Your's is really looking great Nancy!

(Zone 1)

Talk about a pretty variegated plant ... check out this willow plant at Bloom.Com today:

Oh, I had traded for cuttings of that exact plant a while back....the cuttings rooted but when I planted them they *ALL* died!?!?!?!
I never did figure out why.
I was sooooo bummed:(

So, Nancy...you wants to try a brug??? (Ü) D-mail me!!

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Lin, have questions about the Joseph's Coat you posted on 3-29-I think I have the same thing but the nursery did not have a more specific name. Do you know it's name other than Joseph's Coat?

Same for the pink leaved hibiscus-do you know the name?

Thanks

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Sent you a d-mail back, Nancy!

Lin...you mean the variegated willow? You have one?
I had rooted my cuttings in water too, they rooted very quickly and had lots of leaves, but when I transplanted they died....

Tropicanna....Joseph's Coat are aka as Alternanthera

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Hey Nancy, take a look.
Here is a pretty little variegated succulent vine, Got a couple of rootings in the rooting jar exchange and boy are they doing good, I'm told it will flower. Just potted it up this afternoon. Thanks Nancy I really like it. BTW all the rootings I was sent during the rooting jar exchange rooted. Thanks Lin and Buttoneer and I know someone else sent me a cutting too just can't remember who right now.
I took Bougie, cuttings today we'll see if they root.

Nan, thanks, but there are soooo many kins of alternanthera or Joseph's coat, and was hoping for a better ID for trading. Maybe there are fancier/more specific names. I have the dark Joseph's Coat, "Partytime" and whatever that one Lin has posted on 3-29.

(Zone 1)

Tropicana: Sorry, I can't remember what it said ... thought it was labeled Alternanthera "Joseph's Coat" but don't remember anything else. I will be out and about tomorrow and will check and see if I can find out for you.

The Hibiscus is just called "Red Hot" Hibiscus .... No other name!

Nan: I was referring to the plant called Ctenanthe "Brazilian Snow" - I love that Willow Plant Photo at Bloom.com ... Gorgeous, but I've never tried any willow.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh, lol!!
I wondered, as the willows usually require the cold/dormant period, and I didn't think you saw too many 'extended cold periods' down there!

I was just looking at that plant (the Ctenanthe) on a website today, though....they called it something else (Maranta something or other, I think). I'd love to have a start if you should find one, Lin!
I've probably got a few other things for you, as well.

Do you suppose, Tropicanna, that it may be the old standby A. ficoidea?
I used to have one, myself, but have no photos of it, and couldn't find any 'good' photos on the internet, either.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm so new to gardening I wish I knew the standbys-lol! Thanks for helping me try to ID my alternanthera. It was very pink when I got it, but it's faded and doesn't seem happy with me lately.

I've ordered a pink leaved hibiscus from glasshouseworks- but can't remember which . The two I saw with pink leaves were:
HIBISCUS ROSA-SINENSIS MATENSIS
HIBISCUS ROSA-SINENSIS ROSE COOPERI

http://www.glasshouseworks.com/trop-gh.html
to see them. Yours is pretty, Lin

Thanks ya'll!

(Zone 1)

Those are real Beauties Tropicana! Love them both!

Here's the PF info on the "Red Hot" Hibiscus ... I didn't even know it was in PF until I did a Google Search and found it there!

That "Red Hot" Hibiscus is gorgeous Lin,The one you sent me is getting alot of new leaves.I just love it.I can't wait to see it bloom but the foliage alone is a real treat. : )

Holly....Great Job Girl : ) Those cuttings are looking good.I am so happy they are doing so well for you. They will bloom the prettiest red flowers! I just love the pot you have them in and froggie is just too cute : ) Hope your Bougie cuttings do good for you.hmmm.... if they do you can count on me pestering for a trade in the future lol : - o

That gorgeous croton you posted, Lin, that has all the reds in it is the best!! I got lucky the other day and some nice lady sent me 3 giant unrooted cuttings...they are already in the pot growing roots...it is to die for!!!

(Zone 1)

Gail ... that really bright one is my favorite. I think the name of that one is "Mamey". But, who knows for sure. I've seen so many Crotons at Garden Centers, totally different looking, leaf shape and size as well as color ... with the same label!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Gosh, everyone's photo's of their gorgeous variegated plants are so inspiring. I've never seen a variegated Hibiscus before. It is hot! Also, would like to try a variegated Bougainvillea outside this summer. I wonder how it would be to keep indoors over the winter? Growing tips, please.

On the Zebra Plant (Aphelandra)....I tried growing that a long time ago and it didn't do well for me. I think they are a bit touchy to over or under watering.

Quote:
"This plant likes lots of light, but not direct. It does not bloom often, but it can be encouraged to bloom by prolonged daily exposure to light. It is also very sensitive to moisture content. Too much or too little water will cause the lower leaves to brown and fall off. It likes to be kept moist but not wet. On average needs small amounts of water often rather than a thorough watering once in a while.

The plant flourishes when the temperature is in the range of 65-70F; and will suffer if the temperature drops below 60F for a prolonged period."

I am so pleased that my variegated trailing african violet "Ramblin' Amethyst" is now starting to bloom. The blossoms aren't fancy but the foliage makes up for it.

I just remembered her name, Lin....DutchLady I think.....wasn't that nice of her??? You are making me want to go take pics outside of the foliage I do have......we don't see a lot of different crotons here...that is probably because they lose their foliage below 55 degrees...this isn't a real safe place for them in south Texas.
Nan, if you are in the mood for trading small brugs, I bet I can find some more tropicals down here!!! Hope your plant makes it safe and sound....the worst thing that could happen is that you get to propagate anything that breaks (LOL)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Snowrose....what pretty plant....you are right about the foliage....

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

A lot of you on this forum also love African violets....remember posted some minis that i found at a nursery....well, I said I would give a lot of them away...I lied....every one of them is different...how many of you would want some at 4.00 a pot if I asked the lady in CC to order some for me....she said she would...they come from Optimara but are not marked. Here is what they are looking like right now....I am thinking that I may let some grow up to 3" pots...I am not showing...just growing and loving them...

Gail,Your gorgeous av's keeping looking more breathtaking each time I see them. You have a green thumb for sure! : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

the other view....Snowrose, would you do something nice for everyone and mainly me!!!....my Aunt next door is dying quickly......just find out how many total from your DG friends how many I need to call and order next week after Easter.....if you don't want to, would you get someone to do it....don't have time, but she did tell me to call after Easter and she would order from her broker who said they came from Optimara again.....a deal????? Someone would have over a week to find out how many total....thanks
I really did intend to share but I have fallen in love....each one is different even the same variegation has a different bloom, etc.

Bettygail has gone "Gessie Wild" as you can see by her photo's! And ... I think there's even more that she hasn't shown!

Gail ... You KNOW I am one of the ones who would want to order some of the variegated ones! Not too many, mind you, I am QUICKLY running out of space!

Lin

p.s. Gail .... I'm gonna be nicknaming you "Gessie Gail"! LOL. :)

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Gail,Don't feel bad.If they were my beauties I don't think I could part with any of them either.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3332336 Agree that this is Croton Andrew.

I am drooling over your variegated shrimp plant.

I had a var. rubber plant (ficus elastica) planted inground part sun and that bit the bullet in Feb. when I was too lazy to protect it. I'm ashamed of myself.

here is a beauty for you, I think this is pelagornium Tiger

Next week....someone tell me how many to order....I won't order anymore Lin than is called for (tee hee)......I never thought i would be this selfish.....I love to give away plants...as much as anyone.....but this AV thing is like "heavy drugs"....nothing interferes with me and my violets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK...enough....tomorrow the camera will come out for variegated foliage which I love as much as you ladies do!!!!

cedarnest....look no further for Ramblin' Amethyst. I've got plenty of leaves as you can see. I'll be glad to send you some. Remember when we talked about the Rex begonia 'Capricorn' and you said you liked it. I put some leaf sections down and they were all successful at putting up baby plantlets. One of the babies has your name on it if you are still interested. The plant shown (from which the leaf cuttings were taken) has doubled in size from this photo and is now getting to be huge. I just repotted it into a 8" clay pot.

Bettygail: How about: "Gessie Gal Gail"! :)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

vossner...I'm drooling over your Tiger!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Gessie Gail - Thank you in advance for your most generous offer to order plants for us. That is more than extremely sweet of you. Now, I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. The cost of the plants is one thing but the shipping ain't cheap and needs to be factored in. How would we go about all of this? I have no problem in getting a tally of who wants how many. What would the logistics be to getting the plants to the individuals? Anyone with some bright ideas, please come forward and help figure this out.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Snow,Thanks so much! I would love some Ramblin' Amethyst leaves I couldn't remember who I talked about the Rex Capricorn to because I forgot to write it down.So sweet of you to remember me.Oh my now I am double excited. How much excitement can one girl take?LOL I will send you a D-Mail
Nancy
