Very pretty Lin.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

hey Lin, I have that but had no tag. Yours looks nicer; maybe more light and better care.

(Zone 1)

Hee Hee Sallyg .... I don't have a great deal of luck with Pepperomia's. I think this one has thrived on neglect. It's been out on my deck in pretty bright light whereas I had another one, different verigation inside the house and found it turned to Mush a few days ago! It probably didn't have enough light.

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

If it was mush then probably too much water with too little light. After seeing your tri-color I know that's what I have too. Thanks!

I too like the aglaonemas. Some of the colorful new Thai hybrids are gorgeous but still too expensive right now.

seaechoorchids - the croton 'Andrew' has been pretty much sitting there this winter. I just looked at it closely and it is making some new growth. I guess spring is waking it up. Kinda like me. This winter seemed so long and I feel so happy with spring like I'm waking up from the long winter daze. I will put Andrew out for the summer and see what he does.

sallyg - I too like the all green peperomia obtusifolia. My neighbor has one she's had for years planted in an aged looking clay pot and I love it. Great looking plants you posted. Don't you love it when they are pretty and hearty too?

plantladylin - beautiful as always. I have always thought how healthy your plants look.

Here's a variegated Rose of Sharon I got 3 years ago. It is a very slow-grower, has deep dark red flowers (even at such a small plant) and it is in it's 3rd year for me, barely a foot tall.

Here's another shot of it.

I can't believe all the beautiful variagated plants you all have. Thanks for posting all of your wonderful pics ; )
Buttoneer where did you find your variegated Rose of Sharon? I just love that! That is so pretty to look at even when not in bloom : )
Nancy

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Nancy, I bought it at a Mennonite Nursery in Lancaster County 3 years ago. Would y ou believe that plant is barely a foot tall in 3 years? That's how slowly it grows. If I can get it large, it ought to be spectacular.

(Zone 1)

Bet it would grow real fast down here in Florida ... wanna ship it South for the summer? LOL. :) I promise I'd take "REAL" Good care of it for you!

Lin

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Lin, I'll bet. Being a plant that goes dormant for the winter, I think it likes it better in zone 6 with a cold winter rest.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Buttoneer, I too really like your variegated Rose of Sharon. Have you ever tried rooting cuttings?

Rose of Sharon can be easily rooted in June and July. Simply take several cuttings from the new growth about four inches long and remove all but the top two or three leaves. Then dip the bottoms of the cuttings into rooting hormone (available at most garden centers.) Fill a pot with some premoistened soil-less mix. (This is also found at garden centers; don't use general potting soil because unlike soil-less mix, it's not sterile.) Insert the cutting and partially tent over the pot with clear plastic. Place the container in the shade. Roots should form in a month or two.

(Zone 1)

Oh Boo .... How about if I put it on ice for the winter??!!

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Snowrose, This plant isn't even 12 inches tall. I will wait til it gets quite a bit taller before thinking about taking cuttings. Remember, it is variegated & is a slow-grower because it doesn't have as much chlorophyll in the leaves as the regular rose of sharon.

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

I had no idea what this plant was till I posted on DG-a zebra plant?
snowrose~ I believe i'm like you. Most of my plants are variegated or some sort. You could be of help to me.
My zebra plant hasn't died yet, it has lost alot of the bottom leaves. I try to keep her in as much humidity as West Texas will alow:)
Suggestions??

I like this thread since I can show my plants instead of questioning(at least for once) They might not be pretty like some of yalls, but I am keeping them alive and proud to "show them off"
I got this one b/c it had color to it instead of just green. A croton I believe. She has turned a brighter orange since I got her. A little bigger. She doesn't get too much sun and I keep her watered. Am I right?
Thanks, Elizabeth

Here is another croton I have-General Padget. I hope I'm not giving it a bad name. They were at Walgreens of all places for 5 for $10. They were small in 4" pots. I got 5 different types of plants and have managed to keep them alive since Feb.
This one gets a little sun and I make sure she doesn't go dry??

I love crotons but just don't do good with them. Humidity maybe? My granny in FL has one growing outside and it's beautiful.

Lana, Thank you and I'll go check out that info. Every bit helps and just might save my plant.
Thanks again, Elizabeth

this was her first day home with me.

Humidity plays a BIG part. I've been spraying with a water bottle. It's very dry in west Texas.
I've got a bad habit of buying a plant and then finding out what it needs. I might not have so many to worry about otherwise

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

Lana- Me either, I almost didn't think that was my plant.
No doubt I will brag when mine gets like that. How do you care for yours?Elizabeth

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

They really are beautiful plants. Mine is repotted into a pot w/ a birdhouse motif on it. I don't like it in that pot and am going to put it in something either plain or formal.

We have lots of Croton's here in Florida. Yep! They do love the humidity. Here's a picture of my very favorite one. It's planted in the yard, have to cover it with a blanket in the winter if it gets real cold ... if we ever have a hard freeze predicted I will dig it up and bring it inside ... hard freeze would kill it.

Here's one called "Yellow Iceton .... this photo is from last year and the plant has been inside during winter, so has lost a lot of the yellow. I put it back out in full sun, so it should get it's yellow color back soon:

Ok ... I can't seem to stop! You have me going around looking at all my plants to see what has variegated foliage!

Here's a Brugsmania (Angel's Trumpet) 'Maya' given to me in my very first trade here on DG with Nan! This baby is going into the ground very soon!
