my friend got me thinking on this last night. she has a few email people who maybe just write once in a blue moon or a few lines a week.

she is getting fustarted because she feels this isnt what friendship is about. her version of friendship is its two sided like any other relationship. They ask Beth questions about herself but never tell her anything. Beth feels this isnt right which i agree with it. How can you have a freindship even on emails and not know anything.

To me friendship is a two way street. Its work on both sides to get to know each other and be there for that friend if needed or just to talk. If you dont work on it you lose it. You have to be willing to work on both sides to have a friendship. how can you have it and not know nothing about the other person??

they give her excuses like i dont have time to write i dont have time but will catch up but never do.

she wants advice and i dont know what to say to her.

To me no matter what friendship is a friendship wheter on the net or in person. you have to know each other and its both ways. Maybe i am looking at email friendship wrong .

on this note i have a email person who does the same thing and now that i am thinking on it i am ready to boot them. i havent really thought about this till now.

Did she know these people personally or did she meet them on line somewhere? Not everyone wants to reveal personal information about themselves to strangers they met on the Internet. And, frankly, not everyone can or wants to spend endless time answering e-mails. After a while it becomes intrusive. Your friend may be assuming that a "real" friendship exists, while the others just consider it casual conversation and don't feel obligated to take it beyond that. Sounds like your friend is very lonely.

Your friend needs to join DG if they put up with me they will put up with anyone.

How about the friends who you know personally through years of close contact, who never write anything personal but persist in sending you stale timeworn jokes and junk to download. I've already told her if she can't write a personal word, don't send me crap. Didn't seem to make a difference. Am thinking of blocking her mail, as she does not have virus protection and who knows what can end up in my computer.

P.S. I didn't answer the question did I? LOL sorry, I don't know if I would continue to send messages to people who don't respond. What's the point? You might just as well talk to yourself.

People do grow apart and we can say it will never happen and try a little to stop it, but those are the facts.

Your wife's friend sounds like she is just trying to be polite and keep the friendship going for no other reason than to not be the bad guy to break it off.

Beth knows a few of them personally. and one she met on the net.

Meezersfive i know what you mean about the jokes. i have a neighbor who lived by us but moved to Fl and all she ever sends is jokes and stuff i already get.

Beth is into everything from excersise to church to animals so i know she has alot of pwople to talk to and stuff. i guess this is an issue for her.

If I'm you're buddy...be a buddy back. I have friends from elementary school. We don't talk all the time but we know our hearts are still there. I have friends from high school and college....we've gotten married, divorced, remarried, had kids, had deaths in the family, have been to hexx and back. Even though we don't talk often, we're still friends. We will always be in each others hearts. Occassionally and I do mean once in a blue moon, we'll call each other up outta the blue and hook up for lunch or dinner just to catch up, poke fun at each other for how old we're starting to look or to cry over a parent's passing. It's nice to know that, no matter what, we will drop whatever it is we're doing and be there if the need arises. Even if we haven't talked in 2 years.

I don't need to send silly emails to tell someone I love them and I'm thinking about them. And if i do send one and they don't respond my feelings are not hurt. How many emails do most people get in a day. 20? 30?40? I'm supposed to responnnd to every joke I get? No way. But I will respond when someone has something troubling them or just says....hey, i was thinking about ya! How ya doing? That's a heartfelt message.

Your all so very right. thats the way things have changed though. meezers i'm your pal no cash ,just chocolate..lol.. and if sends joke or things means thinking of you al least all i get and send on to.Maybe just do not know what to say do not want to step on toes some do not want to get personal at all.I hope she gets some really close friends.
