3rd Annual NorCal Stockton Roundup on June 3, 2007

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi fellow Roundup-ers! Spring is here and I am sure you are all as relieved as I am. Thought I would post and let people know that a Roundup is planned, just no date decided on yet. I had some feedback after last year that April was a bit too early to have cuttings started, so I am thinking sometime in May. If you already have something scheduled, please post and let me know so I step on as few toes as possible.
Looking forward to seeing you all again, hope all is well with everyone.

I will be editing this post for any future updates. If I remember correctly, edits don't show up as a new post if you have this thread "watched", so be sure and check it for updates.
Donna

I hope I can finally come this year! Everytime there's a roundup it seems like there's something else going on and I can't go.

Here are some things that may be a conflict for multiple people:
Strybing annual sale on 5/5
Cabrillo College annual sale 5/12 and 5/13 (maybe I'm one of only a few salvia fanatics that are planning on going to this one, but it's also Mother's Day weekend)
DrDon's So Cal roundup is 5/19, not sure how many NorCal people are planning on going to that

And for me personally, my parents are in town the weekend of the 19th/20th and I may be out of town for Memorial Day the following weekend.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

May is going to be a really busy month. May 6th is the garden tour that jasperdale and SoCal are participating in. Yep, the Cabrillo Sale (which I will not miss, meaning that I'll have to pass on Loreena McKennitt at Humprhey's, sigh), a stupid small claims court date for the 16th, So Cal RU the 19th, and I would really like to make it up to the NorCal RU this time. Why don't we have more weekends and less 'week'?

Where is everyone?

Lodi, CA

Hey I'm ready to trade! where is everybody??

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi everyone,
thanks for an alert for all the events going on in May. Popular month! I am leaning towards May 6th or May 20th. I will send everyone a d-mail soon so anyone that has not seen this thread will be directed to it. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting new people. :~)

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Hope I can get there this year! It'll depend on the cost of gas.

Marilyn

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm in Donna! LOL So glad to finally see you back on DG! Let me know what I can do to help.

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Marilyn, sure hope you can make it! I am gonna go ahead and push the date into June, too much planned for May and besides, that will give us more time to root things. Hey Joyce, nice to be back. Sadie is still waiting for you to come play with her. LOL

Great! There isn't anything I "HAVE" to do in June, so hopefully I'll be able to make it.

BTW: Should I bring my Italian Greyhounds to play with Sadie? She looks a lot like an IG mix. Here's my Angel.

Hey All!

Yay for moving it to June!!! I'm planning on going to DrDon's this year so I'm glad I won't miss our wonderful NorCal RU! I had better get busy and make some more cuttings if I'm going to 2 RU's this year....YIPES!!! (Hey Pudgymudpies.....I lost the dark blue Clitoria you gave me last year to last winter's ugly freeze....any chance your's made it? *Greedily eyeing PMP's plant babies......") tee hee

P.S. Darby says ...."Poo to you dogs" (hee hee)

Hey Marilyn, Angel is so pretty!!! Sadie is a Rat Terrier, she is my new baby. Lucy, who you met at the first roundup went to doggie heaven at the ripe old age of 18 and it was just too lonely without a pup to love. I got Sadie in November and she is now one of my "kids". LOL
The roundup is probably going to be at my house, so sadly, no room for pup play, I think Sadie will go spend the day at her aunts house. But if we should end up having it at a park, then SURE! :~)

Karen, clitoria are only annuals, mine die out every winter too. I will see if I have any more seeds and will start you some for Roundup. I can hardly wait for you to see your poor unloved maple, it loves its new home and hangs over the pond in the prettiest way! And to think I did not want to take it... lol And Sadie says she does not like Darby's attitude. hehe

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Angel doesn't like Darby's cattitude either. LOL!!! I thought Sadie looked like a Rat Terrier. They're such neat little dogs. I was joking about bringing Angel and Amare - they're too much trouble in these circumstances. I'd definitely NOT bring them to a park where they'd have to be leashed all the time. Angel in particular is a PIA.

Hope to see all of you in June! I'll bring some goodies from the Garden to trade. All of your pretties from 2005 were given to the respective propagators who were more than happy to receive them (especially the Brugs!).

Marilyn

Modesto, CA(Zone 8b)

I'll be looking for some new brugs in trade this year All mine but one bit the big one. I covered them and moved the ones I could to warmer spots, but it was in vain.

Donna, Clitoria are annuals? Shows how much I know! You may have given me some seed, I'll check. There's something coming up in one of the pots I have out front....I think it's a Snail Vine...is that possible after being out in the open (in a pot no less!) for 5 days of 18 degrees???? I would have thought that was a gonner too. Looks like this spring may hold some surprises!

Darby has taken her catitude to the window of my office where she is watching the birds outside (as if there was anything she could do). She must be terribly frustrated! LOL

Donna: I have put "Stockton Roundup?" on my calendar for those two Sundays in May......6th and 20th.........and will wait to see which gets the best response. Thanks for "herding cats" again this year.............getting a bunch of independent gardeners together is no easy chore......

It's going to be in June now
http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3349600

I'm happy about moving it because now I can probably make it--May is sort of crazy but June's not nearly as bad. My first Roundup, I'm very excited!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I'm thrilled!.... June is good and maybe I can make it also if it's going to be in Stockton, thereabouts, locale since my Dad lives in Ceres.
Sherry

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Had to put a pic of Tweety since she looks a lot like Sadie. Angel is beautiful!!

Well Donna, this year I promise to be better prepared. We have use of plenty of tables as long as I reserve the date ahead of time.
I hoped to have several Brazillian Plume cuttings, but I lost the parent plant to the freeze. I am still sorting stuff to gather for the trade.

I'm jazzed.. already!

Donna:

Finally read all the replies on the thread................and see The Roundup is pushed back to June......... will wait to hear the date.

Hopefully this rain is helping all the plant roots to sink deeper this year.........my brugs also got nailed..........but will wait another month as you suggested to see if Lazarus will come back from the Dead.,,,,,,,,,,,,,never know.

Be well,

Jack

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Hey Jack,
keeping my fingers crossed for your brugs, sure hope you don't lose them! Goofy weather, it's testing our patience. lol

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Roundup, I have 2 possible dates in June, give me some feedback and we will get the date set. June 3rd or June 17th.

Thanks,
Donna

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

On Sunday? What about on Saturday?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

As of right now either of those days works for me

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Either works for me.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Either of those days are fine with me too.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I just feel out of the tree (figuratively, only) and found this. Either date is great for me. Minor surgery early May, so should be able to heft my plants out there in June. I can do the tags & pens again, if any one wants.
Pens http://www.dpind.com/GARDEN_MARKER_PEN_p/garden%20marker%20pen%2012.htm $2 each plus shipping.
5" plastic tags http://www.dpind.com/Plastic_Plant_Labels_p/plastic%20plant%20labels%205%20in..htm $2.50/100 plus shipping.
If anyone else is interested in different sizes or products, let me know.
It looks like they have a discount which may pay most of the shipping. My intent is that this only be for those that will be at the roundup, or willing to come by my place to pick them up.

Hey! Look what I got at Smart & Final to plant my stuff for the RU.... They are hot food dishes, but so much better! I put a 4" pot in the pic for size comparison. You can write on the sides.. AND make drain holes on the sides and bottom with a steak knife so easily! They are shorter than the styrofoam cups so they won't tip over as easy. I'm jazzed.
25 large size (32oz) For $2.65
50 small (4oz) were $1.39
25 medium (12oz) $1.39

Hi everyone, I will wait until the beginning of May to post the details and then I will send d-mail links to everyone nearby.

Thanks for offering to do the pens and tags again George, if there is enough interest to make it worth your while I will get some pens, I was really happy with those. Sadly, mine all had legs and wandered off...HA Thats my story and I'm stickin to it. ;~) Hope all goes well with your surgery.

Good info Joyce, really handy for mass planting those seedlings, and when you plan on sharing them it is nice to not have to give all your small pots away!

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi everyone, I decided to go with June 3rd for roundup as it slipped my attention that the 17th is Fathers Day. Totally missed that until DH pointed it out to me. lol Apparently the day is much more important to him than me. ;~)

If you will be able to attend, I will dmail you my address and phone number. So post of you can make it and lets plan to have a good time!

Donna

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I have nothing happening that day. Hopefully I'll be able to afford the gas. If I could carpool that would be best. Anyone interested?

Marilyn

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Looks like I should be able to make it!

I'm happy to carpool--Marilyn, I'm not sure if Dublin is really on your way or if you'd be going on Hwy 4 instead but if it would work for you to come down here and then I'll drive the rest of the way let me know. Otherwise if there's anyone else who lives down around here or is going to be getting from the Bay Area to Stockton via 580 who wants to meet up to drive the rest of the way let me know (or if you want to take BART to Dublin/Pleasanton I live less than a mile from the Dublin side and could pick you up there). If I drive I can really only take one other person though, I have a tiny sports coupe and unless you're under 5' tall and very young and flexible you do not want to sit in my backseat!

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Not to mention you need room for plants! lolol Priorities, people...HA

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL @ Donna

I need a pickup! :-) No, I need a mechanic.. I have a pickup finally! No biggie.. I can make multiple trips with the car.. Lord knows you can haul a lot in our cars huh Donna? LOL

Crossville, TN

OK.....now you're listed. Have a great time. Jo

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks , don't know how I missed this whole post . The wife has something planed for June - she is asleep right now .
The cold got most of my stuff this year anyway .

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning,
just wanted to remind everyone that Roundup is 3 weeks away.
If Karen (Kachinagirl) cannot get the day off work we will need tables. Joyce, do you still have access to a some? Also, lets start talking about food & who wants to bring what.
I still have plenty of plasticware, plates, napkins & cups from previous RU's so no one needs to bring that.

Oh, and I sent out dmails last week to everyone within 50-some miles that had not already posted here. Should I go further out?

So lets start confirming who is coming and getting this ball rolling! And George, hope all went well with your surgery!

Donna

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks for concern. Surgery ended up being a breeze. Only 2 days of pain med and I was out pulling weeds and watering on the 3rd day. Sorry I can't make the gathering of the faithful, but I will be there in spirit.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm definitely coming. I'll bring some sort of vegetarian (but most likely not vegan) entree or hearty appetizer. I'll have to dig through recipes and figure out exactly what it'll be so I'll post back later once I've had a chance to think about it. I won't have time to think about it until after the 22nd though--things at work are totally crazy right now and my parents are coming on Thursday, so I won't have time to think about this until after they leave. Same goes for the list of plants I'll have to trade, I know I've got a few things lying around that I accidentally bought multiples of, or bought them and decided I don't have room for them, etc. But I need to go wade through the container collection after the parents leave to figure out what I have.

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Glad you got through it George & that it was a quick recovery, but what do you mean you can't make it?? Can we actually even HAVE a roundup without you???

Sounds good ecrane, looking forward to meeting you. Hope you have a nice visit with the folks.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I'll be there. I'll either bring broccoli salad or deviled eggs (or maybe both!).

Marilyn

El Dorado Hills, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank you for the invitation ... we will be out of the State in June but someday we would love to talk to others ... Anne has her roses and I watch the birds ... we're 600 feet up in the foothill on US 50 towards Tahoe, so I'm curious what others are doing to attract birds in residential space ... maybe next year.
