Co-op Chatters

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Continued from the Foxfire Hosta Co-op: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/702394/

This thread does not contain info for Marie's Foxfire Hosta Co-op; this thread is for chatting about the hosta, or any other subject we want to chat about.

Quoting:
it is possible to do it for very little or down right free by getting divisions from friends or relatives

...for some people I think the problem is neighbors don't take the time to get to know each other like they used to do. How often (when you have moved to a new home) do the neighbors come and introduce themselves? And do we make sure we welcome new people to our areas?

Thanks jasmerr, I will assume that this will not contain co-op info....just the chatty stuff. I was thinking that the original thread was getting kind of long, so I'll start a new Foxfire Hosta Thread as well.

Right, Marie, just the 'chatty' stuff. Everyone likes to keep connected when they are in the same co-op and we can do that here without hijacking your co-op thread!☺

I know someone that takes a lot of hand-holding, but loves gardening. As long as I am willing to answer her questions, she is willing to give it a try. I think that's common with lots of people that didn't grow up gardening, and then there are others (me included) that didn't grow up gardening and can't seem to stop ourselves.

Edited to add...

When someone says, "Sure I'll take it, if you plant it for me!" I'll do that, but the shovel will be in their hands and I'll be telling them what to do! LOL

I'm going to be helping (kids) plant two different community gardens this year. I love teaching kids how to garden!

I grew up in NYC where it's hard to find anywhere to plant anything and I learned. I read books and magazines. If you can't afford them there are libraries at schools or the public library or even go to Barnes and Noble or other bookstores and "read" the magazines there. Learning is something that is open to all. I'll give information and plants or seeds but I refuse to do the work for them. If they want it they have to put something into it. It's a different thing to help someone who's already trying to help themselves. There I am willing to lend a hand but some folks don't want to use any of their own energy!!
