For all that have dial up like me I started having problems with my system running very slow. I have all the watch dog stuff on my computer and thought that some how I was still infected. I use ISP as my provider and they give me a bar graph that I can watch what the connection is doing. It constantly showed that I had something running in the background. After much inquires and system checks I finally tracked the source of my problem down to dial up internet accelerators. Seems no matter who's accelerator you use it slows the connection down. Got rid of them and my system runs 5 times faster. So if you have an accelerator you might try shutting it down and see what happens.

Altho' we aren't dial-up any longer - but sure appreciate the 'heads up', snipe/Don .. and will pass it along to friends and family that still are - so they can check it out.

I also discovered that google desk top causes the same problem. Being out in the country where I am they want an arm and a leg for high speed plus you still have to have your own ISP.

Yep, I don't particularly care for any form of 'google' relations, myself ..

We're on the very tip of the extended 'branch' for (rural) dsl, here. And fortunately, it has continually tho' gradually dropped a few bucks in just the last year & a half. So, I manage to give a good knock-on-wood, ever so often. (hee) Jes hopin' they'll boost the tier/speed again soon ..

Well as for google overall I like it. They provide a lot of programs that work for free and if you consider the fact of the sheer size of google I'm sure that bugs like this will happen since most people are DSL or better, they can't provide programs that work for everyone. When I uninstalled the desk top I was asked the reason for doing so and one of the answers provided was if it slowed down the internet speed and that they were addressing the problem.

I also heard on the news that the two guys who own google are now richer than Bill Gates.
