Doing some major server work this morning

I'm doing some heavy work on the site this morning, so there may be some oddities:

1) The site may be a bit slower than usual. this is temporary.

2) There may be new bugs come up today. Please report them!

dave

The server work is now finished. If there are any bugs on the site as a result of the work I did, please do report them!

The threads seem scrunched (sp). The space you have for the sidebars on the forum page is holding in the threads, too. Even though there is nothing in that space.

We made that change ages ago; it was agreed upon that the forums should be squeezed a little to make easier reading...

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Hmmm, I was just noticing that too, the scrunched thing, looks different than I remember it.

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Today is the first day that I'm noticing it too. When there are no ads or sponsors in that space it tends to make me think the pages look off balance....but that's just my opinion :-)

--Ginny

Hmm, maybe it was supposed to stretch all the way. Well, I'll change it. :)

dave

I'm now stretching it 100%. Is this the way it used to be?

dave

North Augusta, ON

yep :))

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Fantastic - all better now. Thanks Dave!

It's been fixed, per my reply back to your helpdesk note ;o)

It wasn't related to anything Dave was doing - it had to do with the URL link and html end-tag being juxtaposed.

Thanks!

I don't know if this is a bug caused by the server stuff or something else but we have lost the ability to search in our own journals for things

Dave, my screen is showing the text much larger, and I have to use the horizontal bar to view entire posts. I don't like it, what can I do to change it to fit within my computer monitor's width?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Another bug (either that or I'm just going blind)...the usual link at the top of forums to start a new thread appears to be missing.

defoecat--is it all threads that are causing problems for you or just one or two? Sometimes if people have a really long string of characters with no spaces in a post within a thread it'll cause that thread to be way too wide. If it's all threads though I think it may be something in your browser settings, everything looks fine on my computer.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Something I have noticed today is when I use the "skip to new" button it will take me to posts I've already seen. I just looked at a thread that hadn't been posted to since March 12th. Well, when I used the skip to new it brought me to those posts on March 12th instead of the new posts tonight. I had already seen the March 12th posts.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I didn't see this message until tonight, so I didn't know there might be some problems. The one thing I noticed all day, was that the messages go all the way to the right (very wide). You have to scroll across on some of the postings. I came over here to see if anyone else noticed this problem.

I haven't had to do any scrolling, but it seems like they are much wider than they used to be.

I resized the threads per a request in this same thread. Maybe I should put it back to the way it was?

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes - please, the side scrolling gets old fast.

Is it better now?

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh yeah, lots better. Back to normal again.
Thanks very much Dave. :-)

Donna

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Much better - the DW really complained when I changed the screen resolution yesterday, so I changed it back and had to "side scroll". Now all is well. Thank you.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Ok, I could just be loosing my mind, but I think there is some strange time warp going on. A few minutes ago it was 1:43PM on my home page, both at top right and in the "About Me" box lower left. Now those times are back to normal but when I view threads I started the top item indicates the last post was made today at 17:xx:xx (can't recall exact numbers). Isn't that 5PM, some time in the future?

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

I believe that GMT time is shown when we view the threads we've started. When you look at the actual thread and posts, all times should reflect your chosen time zone. :)

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I have noticed that the time showing on here is an hour behind what it really is. Right now it is 8:38pm and the time on the screen is showing 7:38pm. Never had that problem before til recently. Everything else seems fine to me.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Thanks, TuttiFrutti. Sorry, "guys". Sorry, Dave. I think I really was "loosing my mind" when I reported time problems earlier. I guess I never noticed before, but as TuttiFrutti pointed out the page I was looking at shows time in [I think it's] UTC. It even says as much at the bottom of the page. Oops, my bad. As for the apparent "glitch" on my home page, I think maybe the page hadn't refreshed.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Mine is in Central time. It shows on the bottom but the times are an hour behind.

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

{refrain} the song "does anyone know what time it is"

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL, Dyson.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Dave is this in anyway related to the Server Work?

http://davesgarden.com/forums/p.php?pid=3298465

Sarv can't get back into Dave's Garden Forum now but can get into Parking Lot "Coffee and...."
Ric

Ric,

No, I don't believe they are related. The server work finished days ago.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Thanks Dave--I see the post a new thread link and the search your own journal feature are back working now.
