I opened up this on latest postings and I get ads

Thanks, Patti
I am getting ads
I'm not seeing any...
Maybe what you are seeing is a Forum Sponsorship? Those are handled differently than Ads. See your Preferences to turn them off if you don't want them.
Dave
Dave, It is funny they were there earlier. Before sending my post, I did a preview and the posting was in a verticle format with a bright orangish advertisement running down the left side of the posting. I was getting them only when I looked at several of her other post ( MarilynneS's Threads) and it wouldn't let me see anything other than the first post. But it is gone now. I have not touched my preferences. Patti
That is extremely strange. Please let me know if this happens again. I am strict about never showing ads unless the member specifically requests them via the preferences...
dave
Dave, I just did an experiment. I logged out and then looked at the same posting and what must have happened is that I must have been inexplicable logged out and then back in by some cyberspace gremlin during the few seconds that I was looking at the Canadian forum ( I spend time at a family cottage in Ont every summer). I rarely log off. We are having a sleet storm at the moment so perhaps it is from my end and dirty lines. I will let you know if it happens again and exactly at what time. Patti

did it again at 4:47 Patti
Now it has been repaired. Very strange as I showed no other interruption in the service Patti
It's possible you have a virus...
Could you take a screenshot next time an ad shows up?
dave
Happy to, but how do I do that? Is that "save page as" . Patti
Patti, when you're on the page you want to take a "shot" of, hold down your Ctrl key then look for a key called PrtScrn (probably up near your scroll lock key.) Press it
Then open MS Paint or something similar and click on "Edit" then "paste".
The image should appear - save it as a .gif, .bmp or .jpg file, then upload it into a post just as you would any other image.
Thanks, I will do it. Love learning new stuff. no ads since my last post. Patti
this is the same one with out the pop up. This was the only one that appeared when I was opening up my favorite forums. A ll the rest have been normal. I am using a remote to access this, could it be from my end? If no one else has this happen, it sounds like my problem. It is no big deal to me if it is just a sporadic event. Patti
I note in the screenshots that you are not logged in - check out the menu bar and you'll see a "Login" link. That only appears if you're not logged in...
When you are not logged in, the system doesn't recognize you as the subscriber that you are, and so it shows the ads.
Dave
I think it must have to do with my server blip ping me off and on Dave's, but I don't know how log ons work. It is trying to tell me something! I haven't logged off today and had this only happen once today after checking and posting to other threads. Patti
I had a bookmark for DG before I became a subcriber that I had to finally delete, I would forget and use it and wouldn't be logged in. If you use bookmarks, delete them log on again and get a fresh bookmark.
Check your browser's options to make sure it is loading a fresh copy of the page with each visit. If you have visited a forum thread before when not logged in, your browser may be bringing up a cached copy of that previous session.
dave, here is more of the same. it is happening without me login or out. All in the part called 'the latest posts' I looked at one and it had ads, i immediately looked at another it was fine, then I went to another it was with ads, no rhyme nor reason. Except that the bad ones, said I was not login, which I was.
at least it's a nice pink & green rather than one of those manic gyrating black silhouettes ...
You're still not seeing ads when the computer thinks you're logged in, that means the ads/no ads feature is working fine. So the problem is most likely in your browser somewhere. Here are a couple things to try that might help get to the bottom of why this is happening. First, next time you see a page with ads, try doing a shift-Refresh, this will force your browser to load the page from the server, let us know if the ads stay or go when you do this. Second thing to try would be to see if the problem still occurs if you use a different browser, if you've been using Internet Explorer, try Firefox or vice versa. One question too--if you're using Internet Explorer, which version are you using? (go to Help, then About Internet Explorer if you're not sure). I remember when version 7 first came out, people were having all sorts of problems with DG not working right, I can't remember if this problem was one that other people had or not. And the last thing is to check your security settings--the fact that your browser doesn't always remember when you're logged in makes me suspect that there are some problems with cookies, your security is probably set just a tad too high so sometimes it remembers and sometimes it doesn't (if you don't want to change the security settings overall, you can make DG one of your trusted sites, the security setting should be lower for those). I don't know how knowledgeable you are about things like this, if you need help on how to find and change your security settings let me know.
Again, check to see if your browser is set to automatically bring up a fresh copy of whatever page you're on. Like ecrane says, hit shift + click the refresh button. If you're logged in after that, it probably was looking at an old cached copy of the page and not looking to see if there was a new one out there.
I don't think it is a old cached copy as the time matches real time, always. I will check my (or have DH, he is the firewall gury) security. I was using Foxfire, and I just had an update today. So we will see. This is not an annoyance for me, but I thought Dave should know. I used a POS and Inventory system from the mid 80's to run my bookstores. I became a beta site for most of their new releases, so finding bugs is not new to me. As this happens with no regularity and corrects itself in a nanosecond, I am puzzled. It does always show that I am logged out when the ad screen appears, but then the screen changes back to showing me as logged in when it corrects itself, without me doing anything. One other thing is that I use 3 different computers and I think this has happened only on this one. But it is the one I use the most, so it might be that it just has not happened when online on the others. Next time it appears, I will run to check on the other computer. This could be a great weight loss program for me. Chasing bugs. Patti
If only it worked that way, eh? :D That is a weird one - looking forward to hearing what is causing it.
