saanansandy - then you're just a ferry ride across from us! We're 14 miles from Orient Point.
Another storm!
I think tonight rain will remove all our snow except for where the plows piled it. It's interesting to follow the snow'disappearance through our forum. First Pirl & Anita in L.I., then me, Don and John in southern CT (and the people on Cape Cod?) and up until Pixie in July!
I sure hope you are right Dave47 - I am sick of my mother in BC reminding me that her snow has been gone for two months - and she lives in the interior, not the coast.
When I went to bed there was still snow. It's just before 4 am (couldn't sleep) but I haven't looked out yet. Surely by the end of the weekend, the snow should be mostly gone!
It's melting here Dave, but no ground can be seen except for my muddy driveway. It might be June instead of July!!!
Nearly all our snow has finally melted. A few small patches remain, which should vanish once the sun comes up. It's in the low 50s F ~ YAY!!!
The snow is almost gone here, too, and it is raining this morning. The nice, or at least gardenable weather can't be too far off. Well, I guess it will be too wet to work the soil for awhile yet but the time will be here soon enough when there is too much to do all at once.
I did lose or have a lot of plants, damaged this year because of the long stretch of warm weather followed by the deep freeze. Hellebores, daffodils, early minor bulbs all have leaf or bud damage. Some will just lose this seasons display, others , shrubs especially, I fear are gone. This is the rattiest looking early spring garden I've had in 10 yrs. So much for the 4 season look I've tried for. Oh well, there is always the new season to make it better. How is everyone else faring?
Well, it's foggy this morning but the rain seems to be gone along with 99 percent of the snow! YIPPEEE!
Babies are still doing good-pictures this weekend!
Pirl, we are about a 45 minute drive from the ferry in New London! I used to do sub-contracting work in the records dept. at L & M Hospital in New London and would drive past there everyday! Small world, eh!
Well good mornin' to my fellow RI folk, Sue & tegehemon! It looks like we're in for a fairly nice weekend and I'm chompin' on the bit to get outside. I think this weekend DH and I will set up our rain barrels. We had three from last year and I just got 4 more off of e-bay. I live in Coventry and we've already been notified that there will be a water ban because Kent County Water Authority has drained and are repairing the water tower that we get our water from. I don't mind hand watering at all. It makes you get up close and personal with everything so you can see if there's any problems brewing. This year DH and I will establish a vegetable garden in a raised, lasagna bed. Last year we bought I don't know how many pounds of plum tomatoes and made our own sauce from them. Man was that good!!! So hopefully this year we can just pick our own.
Well I better get to work here. Always the first thing I do every morning when I come into work is check out the DG to see what's new and exciting.
Everyone have a great day and a wonderful weekend out in the yard!
Carol
Over 50 degrees by 8 AM = heaven!
Still snow on my property but today's temps and rain should just about finish it off.
Currently 45 degrees with assurances from the weather guy that most of the snow should disappear today . . .
what should I do with the hellebores? Just clip their soggy leaves and hope for better next year?
I've never had them so I can't help, sorry!
Just checked the weather and we'll have high 40's to low 50's for five more days! Hurray! Spring is here.......... until we get another surprise snowfall.
I don't have any snow or ice on my property - and all my snow is going to Southold,NY from now on.
gardening for me today with a high of 60.
"Return to sender. Address unknown"
I've cut my old Hellebore leaves back already.
Well, it's turned cloudy and threatens to rain - I think trimming the hellbores will have to wait a day or two.
My understanding is that old helebore leaves should be cut back just because they're ratty. I do it.
Al, I'm surprised there is no snow in WI.
Semper Fi sempervi! They will return! I have a lot of leaf damage on my daffs too. But I think they will be OK (except for the ones that bloomed at Christmas).
I cut back most leafy plants because though they might not look "that bad" they will in just a few weeks and then it's a lot more work to get out the ugly leaves. I do it for the ajuga, heuchera, daylilies and a lot of others.
We were in the 50's yesterday, high of 47 today......but SNOW tonight and snow showers in the morning!!! Uggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! I am begining to think Mother Nature doesn't like the state of Maine anymore!!!!!
Wrong! Maine has such beauty that God must love it best of all.
Awwwe pirl, thats so nice of you to say and even in my dissapointment I have to agree it is a beautiful place.
We've been to more than half of the states, including Hawaii and Alaska, but Maine comes out the winner for us. Sure, you have more snow but it just makes spring all the more glorious and your summers and falls allow you to be outside, not cooped up in an air conditioned house.
I know I couldn't live where they have 90 to 100 degrees for months on end! They'd find me in the compost heap.
Yes, I'm a Goldilocks person when it comes to climate. Don't like extremes. Could never like in FL or a northern tier state.
Agreed about FL and that goes for AR, MS, AL, LA, GA, SC, NC and VA along with much of the west. I always felt the pioneers were brave but people who can work outside in the garden for six months of 90 to 100 degrees, every single day, are really courageous or else the heat just doesn't bother them.
Yes, I agree about those states as well.
It's in the low-mid 40s right now, although it's a glorious sunny day with crystal clear blue skies. We too expect snow and rain on Monday.
Victor, I'm more of a Poppa Bear.:)
I'm completely comfortable with my Goldilocks side. No issues here. (Note - when I had hair, it was of the curly blond variety!) My mother told me recently she still has quite a few locks of it in an envelope. I said it's time to return it.
I'm glad you're in touch with your inner Goldilocks. Although, I heard she slept around.
That and a little crazy glue!
I prefer men without these "do's" or tons of hair. I bet a lot of women do.
Oh Dave! Behave yourself!
Yes, she never slept in one bed twice. I think Paris Hilton (and others) used her as a role model.
But at least Goldilocks slept alone!
Are we sure???
Of course, Victor! Don't tell me there's a revised edition out that says differently!
Wouldn't surprise me. Maybe a tell-all book by baby Bear??
Too funny. Far better than "How to cook porridge" by Mama Bear.
Wonder if the comfortable bed was a Select Comfort?
Probably. Can't imagine a bear sleeping on a 'Dux' bed!
