Hi Mike
I started mine in Feb last year and they wherent so hard to keep in line, I added one long stick in each pot for them to grow on untill planting outside.
Since you are a few weeks earlier then me to the "safe" time to plant outside I would go for it now. I grew mine inside under nomal tube bulb lights.
Good luck

LOL

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Infact you can still live in your house i just want your garden..... no just your climate! Unless you have a gorgeous wife then.... hey just a thought. lol

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

hehe me too wanna trade climat, to darn cold up here.
Mike I forgot to tell you ..the reason I had them under light is that the room I had the pots in never get sunlight/direct daylight since its a nirth windiw shaded totally by the garage.
The ones I had in my livingroom didnt need the light (south) and they did well untill planting outdoors.

Cant you run a lose electric cable to the greenhouse and have a frostguard heater in there?
Janett

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

We had a frost last night and another on its way tonight... think i'll hang on. I'm hoping to get electric to the greenhouse permanent i got the cable laid but i'm a bit chicken about hooking it up to the mains fuse box!

I hate gas and lecky.. they both kill without warning.. at least plumbing you just get wet.

Mike

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

With your (UK) safety on electic things with the little fuse in all electric contacts I wouldnt worry at all to put eletricity in the greenhouse. Its very hard to die or get really hurt by UK electicity in differense from here............ dont take out the bulbs in the lamp above the bed to change it just to discover you are out of bulbs and forget about it and not unplug the lamp..... just to wake up next morning and streach up you arms and accodently "hit" right into the lamp and get electicuted. AOUCH couldnt use my arm in two weeks.

Gas....makes me think BIG BANG :0) scary.

ILOL, you guys . I'm a bigger chicken when it comes to electricity. I think we've all been watching too many movies about the gas. At least I have, as the flame did go out in my green house one night, and I had visions of that light bulb senario as I unwittingly open the door...sniff..what's that smell. I opened it up and exited in a hurry..I even turned off the power before I went back..LOL..

I had that similar issue last year, I didn't want to keep them in the green house..too cold, but Iwhen it warms up here..ya have to be ready to put them in the ground. I bought some patio end tables at the thrift shop, and had the MG's out on the front porch during the day, and then just opened the front door and kept them in the house over night. Now this worked for me just fine, but non garden folks tend to get a little testey, but ..it's just a couple weeks. Of course last year, was the first time I grew morning glories..so I had child like impatience. I didn't realize there were so many different patterns and colors. I haven't even started mine this year. I did direct sow a few that I noticed are coming up. I think I just figured out what this vine I have growing is from your list Mike...does this look like Ipomoea lobata (Mina lobata) to you?
I bought a packet of seeds in Amsterdamn a couple of years ago. Ths leaf shape is unfamilar and I've been wondering what could possibly so eagar to be growing so fast, when the rest of the garden is barely waking up.

here's pick......matter of fact I think I will take trip to PF now.

Mike says,"I hate gas and lecky.. they both kill without warning.. at least plumbing you just get wet."
Well, not if someone grounded your electrical system to a metal pipe under your house! LOL

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

aaah...my trip to the plantfiles shows very different leaves...back to wondering about the mystery vine.

RJ - The mystery vine you posted is not anything in the MG family...it looks like honeysuckle...

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Really, that is the same picture I sent you before...I don't even know what honeysuckle is. I will let you know when the mystery plant blooms..

I know what the mystery bloom is! Its Cobea scandens! Mine where rubbish last year but at one point i thought they might make it through the winter (just).

Paul ... i'm not even going to comment now... is that a recent picture?

I'm going to sow them this weekend! lol I can't wait now.

Mike

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks MIke..now I'm going to check the files

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ah...that was bit of a delayed reaction I'd say. I direct sowed that last spring.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

So do you think its the one?
They do have a fuuny seed coat that needs to break down before they germinate. But a year!

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

RJ - are you saying that I identified the mystery plant here
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/rjuddharrison_1173819663_52.jpg
as some type of Convolvulaceae(?)...if so,there must be a mistake >because all Convolvulaceae have alternate leaves and that is one of the most basic things that I look for...

TTY,...

Ron

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

No Ron, you did not identify the mystery plant...you were speaking of something else.. you simply identified it as what it is not Convolvulaceae..-l..LOL are you kidding ? Had you identified it, I wouldn' be here asking.

Mike
I did plant a packet last spring. I had so many morning glories in and out of the house by then, I decided to try direct sow. I figured that it was too hot here for them. I wish the seed packets would have foliage pictures sometimes.!
