Money Blown To The Four Winds Dave

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

A new one for me. Stopped at the drive up ATM machine at the bank this morning and pulled $80. As soon as the machine spit out the money the wind caught it and whoosh it was gone. I looked like an idiot crawling across the car and jumping out of the passenger side since the drivers door was to close to the building for me to get out. Started chasing after the money but only found $60 of the $80. I've heard of throwing money to the four winds but come give me a break will ya.

Ohhhh Don so sorry! DH has a knack for being one to find others lost money.....I just find coins and am surprised how few people will bend over to pick up money. So sorry you lost $20!!!

Thats just how the wind blows I guess. Remember if you're alive everything else is just gravy.

I work at a coffee shop and sometimes the wind blowing between our building and the one just next to our drive-thru can make for one heck of a wind tunnel. I've only had one bill dropped, and it was a single...And the person in the next car behind the customer was able to open her door and grab it when it stopped next to her car! Glad it wasn't a bigger bill and there was no one to help retrieve it!

I don't do drive up banking very often. The cash machines I use are all inside of convenience stores. Most are in the middle of the stores. There was a rash of burglaries, where the crooks would back into the store & hook a chain to the cash machine & be gone. So interior locations are now the norm. The exercise I get walking into the store doesn't hurt either.

When I could jog (pre injury) I always made a point of jogging through the local bank parking lots in the evening when there had been wind that day. I would look for the nearest shrub row downwind. Usually came home with money. Once I found a whole checkbook. I often found deposit slips and checks too. I would call the bank and ask if they had a name for anyone losing cash at the driveup or ATM. They never did. I always returned the paper stuff immediately on my way to work the next day. Never got a reward, never anticipated one, never left my name, although it got to be that when I walked in in the morning the tellers would always laugh and say it's the "windy day lady". I don't advocate chasing $20 across a four lane highway, but if there is a down wind row of bushes nearby take a look. I havn't been able to jog for about four years. I am recovering as I type this from surgery that appears to have finally fixed the problem. I can't wait to get back out there, especially on windy days!

That's so funny, Snapple!

My step-father loves to walk. He regularly walks for miles around town, and when he sees shopping carts from one of the local grocery stores, he pushes them back to the store on his way home. The manager always thanks him, and one day told dad to go through the store and get $20 worth of groceries on him. How nice is that? :)

I forgot to mention something my co-worker told me. She used to work at a Burger King. One windy day, she was handing change to a customer and the wind snatched away a $20 bill. It just plain shot out and was gone. She was upset about it because her drawer would be short. The customer tried to give her another $20, but she would not take it. Later that day, he came through again and said he'd looked along the fence behind the restaurant and found the $20 up against it. She never knew whether he really found it, or if he just felt badly for her and didn't want her to get in trouble.

Thanks for sharing gardenwife. A sweet little slice of American life.

We've had lots of money blowing in the wind at the Farmers Market. Us & customers alike. We try to hold on to ours, but some customers have a bad habit of crumpling their money & jambing it in a pocket, so no control when they try to get it out. Some try to just lay it on the table rather than hand it to us. It's very quick to be "on the fly".

I can alway tell when the economy is bad because I will not find very much money. When the economy is in good condition, will find lots and lots of money. Right now, have only found a dime and several pennies in the past couple of months. LIZ

I heard a term for the first time a couple months ago when a customer referred to $20 bills as "yuppie food stamps".

I had a $20 blow out of the tankbag on my motorcycle last winter. I'm still mad about that $20!!!!! Dang it I didn't zip the zipper!!! LOL!! It blew out on a 6 lane interstate though... C'est la vie! :(

Our tip cup flew out the window in a gust today. Fortunately, it was empty so nothing was lost. I think that's the first time I've ever been thankful our drive-thru's tip cup was empty! ;)

when i was a girl i came home from school one day and my mother called me from her job in a very frantic state. she wouldn't tell me what was wrong but demanded that i immediately come to the dry cleaners where she worked. when i got there there was no one in the store but the back door was flapping open. i tippi-toed to the back (i was afraid of what i might see) and peeked out the door to the parking lot. there was my mother running around like a maniac stooping over and picking up pieces of paper that were being wind tossed all over the parking lot. when she saw me she screamed at me to get busy and help her so i also started picking up the pieces of paper. we picked up $363.00 in that parking lot. she didn't know what to do with it so she stuck it in the dresser drawer where it sat for over a year. there was no mention of it in any nespapers or on the tv so she finally used it to pay bills. that was a lot of money in the early sixties.
