Question about uncopyrighted images

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Are we allowed up upload images to the PlantFiles if they are not copyrighted? Like one site I go to some of the photos were taken by the person owning the site and they all have copyright written on them. Then there are random images that other people have uploaded that are not copyrighted. Are we allowed to use those images in the plant files, since they are not copyrighted? Here is one image for example and I hope that I do not get in trouble doing this.

Jesse

Edited to say that I have not done this. I wanted to ask first so please don't throw stones at me yet.

Plantcrazii, I copied this from plantfiles FAQ and I think this regards even those pics that havent the copywrite text on them too as from what I understand there is a "general"copywrite on all pictures for those who dont want to destroy the pics with text.

Can I use images from the PlantFiles?
Non-commercial use of our images is allowed. For example, you can use them on your own personal computer, or print them out for a personal garden journal. Any other use of our images (electronic or print) on another website, for public lectures, eBay listings, printed catalogs, books, etc. require written permission and proper credit. Contact us if you wish to use one or more of our image(s) and we'll help you obtain permission from the copyright holder(s) and provide you with suitable wording to credit PlantFiles.

So any image that is on the net is automatically copyrighted?

No not for the whole net. I ment that here at DG thers the general copywrite.
If I use a picture from other sites I always check top and bottom and FAQ as many site actually have a general copywrite for their pictures on the pages not on the pictures. Just because the pic istn market doesnt automaticly mean that the picture isnt protected.
Hope this helps

Plantcrazii, yes. The presumption is that all created work (written, photographed, drawn) is copyrighted unless the author/photographer has specifically declared their work to be in the "public domain" and therefore available for others to use.

Thanks, that answered my question.
