I was in the drug store looking in the cosmetic aisle, and there was Pond's cold cream.I had not thought about in years. It made me start thinking about products from the past.I thought it might be fun to compare notes on products we loved and used.I loved Rose milk,Elizabeth Arden's Bluegrass,Tame hair condioner,Mudd mask,to name a few.
I still use Yardley Lily of the Valley cologne, soap and talc.
Anybody want to add to this thread.............HD
I just found an old friend
I used Mudd mask all the time...now I can't remember seeing it in the stores anymore. Too many wrinkle removing products taking up all the space-LOL. My fav cold cream was Noxema. Still remember that very unique scent and the deep blue jar.
Noxema is what I first used to wash my face when I began to care about washing my face (as a preteen). My DD is just starting to care and it's what she is using. I love to give her a hug after she's washed her face. That smell brings back memories for me.
Noxema was the first thing that I thought of, followed closely by Stidex pads. Did we all have spotted teen years? LOL
Oh......and how about bars of cocoa butter slathered on while we baked in the sun. The chocolate smelled good when fresh, but after hours of sweating in the sun......Ewwww.
yesterday, while in the drugstore I found noxzema.Blue plastic jar now.Does anyone remember dippity do? I think I spelled that right..Also hard plastic rollers.Guess if you used them on children today,DSS would show up on your door step.lol.Rexall home perms....I worked in a drugstore as soon as I could count back change.THAT is something gone by...I bet most people would not know how to count back change........................False eyelashes.I remember buying some like Liza wore.Star cut lashes.Got more glue on my hands than the lashes.Remember rouge???Seems like everyone had the same pink cheeks.lol..I loved and still love RED lipstick..True red,not the blue stuff.I will wear it as long as Avon makes it and I keep selling it. Yes,remember the old Avon bottles.I have oodles of them.My aunt sold it when I was a little girl, then 27 years ago I started selling it.The old bottle were so pretty, and at Christmas all the talcs were in pretty Christmas wrap.Loved Roses,Roses,Honeysuckle roll on,Hawaiian white ginger....Gone now.Avon also sold room sprays. My favorite smelled like a live Christmas tree.I know I drove my mom crazy spraying it year round...Please add to this thread.I get a kick out of reading it and writing it.Yesterday,I bought Yardley English Lavendar soap, and lotion for my momma in the hospital.I am a Yardley freak..................Drives DH crazy when we go in a store that sells cosmetics and stuff. He tells me he is going to check out and go sit in the car....LOL

Dang, how could I forget those awful pink roller? My hair always got caught and twisted making the unrolling part a nightmare. How about
pin curls -- you know, the ones made with bobby pins. Wet hair, roll the hair in a "curl" and pin together. Boy, was that uncomfortable to sleep in!
I always use Ivory soap... just the plain old bar... to wash my face. Dunno why, but it's always done the trick for me. The facial cleansers never got all the makeup off for some reason. I follow up with varying types of moisturizer now that I'm older but it's usually just store brand Alpha Hydroxy.
I've used many different types of products through the years... but I still have my favorites.
I like to use the Elizabeth Arden (I forget what it's called but it comes with a sponge... and you put it on like pan cake make up. And for mascara, nothing but Cover Girl will work. I use the cheapy red pencils for my eyebrows and eyeliner. The kind you have to put a flame to in order to get on your face. Mayballene I think is the brand.
I never used those pink rollers, but my mom did. She use to have the bee-hive do's. She'd wrap toilet paper around it at night before bed. That was funny. When I started curling my hair, hot rollers were and still are the thing. She'd rub cold cream all over her face... and with that "do" up in toilet paper... she was a site.
I actually saw a lady walking out of the salon with a bee-hive "do" the last time I was there... a few months ago. I couldn't believe it. Didn't know that there was anyone who still wore them.
Did she have cat-eye sunglasses on too? :>)
Ohhh, this brings back memories! I have used Mudd mask and Noxema, now I feel old! LOL I never had a problem with pimples or acne until NOW!!! I'm squeezing the life out of 39 and my hormones are going haywire! Taking flaxseed oil has helped though.
My mom used Dippity Doo and every Sat. night she rolled her hair on those hard rollers that left marks on her head. My gramma, her mom, did the pincurls instead. Smart woman! If my mom didn't use DD her hair was flat as a flitter LOL! I bought a bottle of Dep hair gel at the $ store. Where do you find Yardley Lily of the valley? I love the rose scent but haven't seen it in awhile. All I can find is lavendar.
When I was little my mom sold Avon and my dad has kept all of the old bottles. He has some in his curio. I have a snowman with cologne inside, and a cupcake. I think he still has the teal paisley suitcase thing that she used to carry door to door too.
Ah, red lipstick, and yes I'm going to say it... it looked great on Anna Nicole...she wore it well.
Susan
Well, I have Mudd Mask and Noxema on my shelf now. I use them occassionally. Noxema is great for sun burn.
My mom used that Rose Milk hand lotion too.
I really don't feel that old... I'm 39 too. I say age is a state of mind!
Donna
What? No one else used juice cans for rollers with that Dippity Do? or ironed their hair straight on the ironing board? and if the hair refused to be straight, well then it just had to be curly with "rag" rollers. These were pieces of cloth that you used to roll up your hair, then tied in a knot and slept on. Rag rollers could produce a curl to put Bride of Frankenstein to shame! LOL!
Anybody remember Yardley Slickers lipsticks? These came as a set in a package that looked like a British double decker bus. The TV ad showed a model dressed like the Girl from UNCLE dissappearing into a phone booth to change lip stick shades so she wouldn't be recognized.
As far as I am concerned...Noxzema is a wonderful product...it is good for all kinds of skin bo-boos not just on the face..I love that stuff!
I remember dippity-doo and bonnet hair dryers....How about Yardley, Oh! de London colongne it had a nice scent...anyone remember it?
Donna,
I'm going to remember to bring a big jar of Noxema the next time I come to Jax, for sunburn, because I fry!!LOL My hubbies family lives there and we are due for a visit.
Susan
Raggedyann,
There are many good things for sunburn actually. Aloe Vera gel is good. But to take the pain out of sunburn immediately... Noxema is the key. Load it on thick and keep putting it on. And be sure to use a good sun screen... I have an allergy to the sun where I break out in blistery itchy things from the least bit of sun... so I use a good sun screen "No Ad" is the best as far as I'm concerned. I get the the 35 I think... and it protects from U/V and A/V... whatever the 2 bad ones are. Any how, as long as I'm dipped in it ... I don't have a problem.
Donna
I still use Yardley's Lavender soap and always keep a few bars in the linen closet and in our luggage to keep it smelling wonderful.
Remember when everyone used Jean Nate? When my husband's aunt passed away we found about 3 dozen bottles of it in her closet. She always asked for it for Christmas and birthdays and I guess that is all anyone ever gave her.
My MIL still uses Jean Nate. I'm not sure where she still finds it though.
ardesia,
Off topic... but I use dryer sheets in my drawers and linens AND in the bottom of my trash cans to keep everything smelling nice.
Donna
That sounds like a good idea as long as they are lavender scented. a
Raggedyann, try the yardley website or the Vermont country store for the Lily of the Valley.Rose is hard to find. You might want to check out your local drug store also.Love Yardley...

Thanks, will do. I have found the rose scent and lavendar at Dollar Tree and Big Lots here before.
