I think I'm lost I can`t find DGer's in your area,I thought it was in extras but can't find it.I was hoping to check in with everyone after all the Tornados we had yesterday.

Thanks Pheadra

It's so funny how I can remove a small little-used feature and then I hear about it within hours. :)

It was overloading the server and I had to remove it. I'll have it back in a few minutes (now that I know someone actually uses the feature!)

I'll admit I don't use all the time, but I do check it ever so often to see if someone new is in our area,
or if there is a big sale that someone in our area would like,or to check on those with weather issues etc.
Thanks Dave.

I used the feature to send hundreds of emails to people inviting them to the Mid-South forum and the Mid-South RoundUps. With the Roundup, I used the zip code of the location where it was being held, to get the listing and then sent emails to all I thought were within driving distance.

It is a wonderful tool.

Judy

The feature is back! And re-written to be MUCH faster.

how do you search by zip code?

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

I use it for the same thing Judy does, and also to find other DGer's nearby.

Thanks, Dave.

The program selects other records based upon the zip code you have on your member page within a certain distance. Therefore I just changed my zip code to that of the roundup location, when finished I changed it back.

The program is under the Extras Tab, bottom of the list "Find other DG subscribers in your area"

And here's a backdoor trick:

http://davesgarden.com/member_zip.php?zipcode=10001

Replace the zipcode with whatever zip you want to search.

Thanks both JC and Dave!

I USE IT!

I'm not seeing where you can put in any zip code. This is what I was asking abt two weeks ago. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/693118/ I tried switching my zipcode in order to do a search while we were in Memphis but I didn't know what the zip was. Would there be a way to avoid the zip and just enter the city name we want to search?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Go to the link Dave posted a few posts ago, and in the address bar on your browser you'll see where it says 10001, replace that with the zip code you are interested in and it'll do what you want. If you don't know the zip code, here's a website where you can search
http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp
I think you have to put in a street name, if you don't know one Main St. is a pretty safe bet, pretty much every city has one so do that and put in the city and state and it'll give you the zip code.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Thanks, I'll make a note of that.

If you are ever in Memphis again, just open a thread on the Mid-South Forum and you'll get lots of replies.

Dave, When will the DG'ers in your area be working again?I do so hate to be a pest.
But I really do use this feature not often I'll admit but I do use it.........
Thank you,Pheadra

Temporarily disabled for performance reasons.

I was wondering about that the other day too when I tried to look them up.

Actually, I thought that I reinstuted it the other day...

It's definitely back up now!

Dave, thanks for putting it back up! How does that work anyway? I know there is another subscriber near me, but it doesn't list her there.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

They may not have added their location. If it's not added then they won't show up.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

When you say added their location, do you mean it would have to show up on their homepage? She does have it listed there.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

She should show up then. The one thing I can think of is that maybe she either left out or mis-typed her zip code when she was putting in her info--I know that the search feature doesn't use the text that you put in for your city to do the search, I think it uses the zip code to do that, so if she didn't put one in or put the wrong one in then she might not show up in your search.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, that's strange. Now she is listed there and so are others that weren't there last night. The list also seems to be in a different order than it was last night. Wish I'd taken a screen shot of it last night. What does it mean when it says "NAN miles"? I assume Not Available....?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Maybe since Dave just put it back in place yesterday there were some things that the server had to do before everyone would show up, maybe it refreshed itself overnight or something?
