Today was bright sunny and 2 above zero - yahoooooooo. Talk about one gorgeous day!!! I even opened the door to air out the house and get some fresh air circulating!!! I love this kind of weather. The snow is starting to melt which is great!!!
What?! A snow storm!
Oh dear! We had the high 40's and lots of sunshine, very little wind. I worked for about 5 hours - at my age I have to break into gardening on an easy level or I'll be asleep by 7 PM.
DawnLL - you mean 2 Celcius degrees above freezing, right? Or about - what? 35 degrees F?
I have lived in the States since 2002 - and I still have a hard time getting used to Farenheit temperatures - especially those below freezing.
I hadn't even thought of it that way, Seandor! What a fool I am thinking Dawn was thrilled with 2 degrees!
Seandor yes I mean celcius - I am from Ontario Canada. I am always clueless when you people speak in F - I sometimes go and check the conversion table just so I can relate to what you mean LOL
4 C = 40 F is the only one I remember and helpful for our Canadian vacations. It's just that I only think of Farenheit!
My DW and I were on our honeymoon in Mexico when she became sick with what felt like a high temperature. I went to the hotel store & bought a thermometer and took her temperature. Only then did I realize that it was, of course, a celcius thermometer.
I had to figure out how to covert in a hurry!
What a terrible time to have to learn conversion!
Ugh no kidding pirl!
So how was your wife for the honeymoon? Was she able to enjoy the vacation Dave?? Gosh I hope so.
She was sick a lot. She would start to feel better, we would go to a restaurant and then she would need to leave. Our hotel accommodations were mangled and pretty much everything went wrong. We refer to it as Honeymoon Hell. If I could keyboard better I would write the whole story and I think your sides would be splitting.
Fortunately, we laugh about it.
Dave - I went to Mexico and stayed in Mexico City without a problem then on to the Acapulco Princess where I was in the same condition as your wife, sans the fever. I came home 12 pounds lighter!
This was not the usual "don't drink the water" it was a weird illness I've never seen before or since.
Oh I am sorry to hear that Dave. Well the main thing is you can look back on it now and laugh (even though I am sure you weren't laughing then). At least it was a honeymoon you will both never forget LOL
We actually took it pretty well then and love telling about it now. If we ever have a Round Up I'll tell the whole sorry tale.
In like a lamb and out like a lion...ugh...the past couple warm days were just a teaser...can't believe it's snowstorm time again...we anticipate at least 6" of snow tomorrow morning, followed by sleet, freezing rain, and ice accumulation.
Anyone recall the freak storm on April Fools Day about 10 years ago? We were in DC at the time and got snowed in...we couldn't return home for a few days until the roads cleared...I wonder if we're due (or overdue) for something of this magnitude. Any thoughts?
Yes. I remember it. I also remember a snowy Easter in April. That had to be about 35 years ago.
I think we're due simply because this winter was so easy. The good thing is that at this time of year, you know the snow won't hang around long.
Dave, thanks for pointing out the snow won't hang around long. I've been so caught up in the fact that it's gonna happen that I haven't moved beyond it to consider how short it will last. So, thanks for stating the upswing of the downer, lol! ;-)
Shhhhh...Easter & snow can NOT happen this year! I have frizzbee's, kites, 50 eggs of various sizes to hide ect. GD called about 10 days ago and said she left a note to the Easter bunny to come to my house just like last year. I have been in high gear ever since.
The weatherman is predicting snow for tonight and tomorrow, approx. 10" followed by heavy rain and winds. Oh boy! Got the canoe and life jackets ready just in case!! LOL
90's Pirl - OMG, I'll take the snow. I do recall a few snowy Easters.
I was living in consistent warm weather 35 years ago, although I did hear about a major snow storm that hit here in '78, I think (long before I moved here).
Well, we didn't receive the minimum 6" of snow that was forecasted yesterday, and what we have received so far is pretty light and fluffy (easy to sweep with a broom).
Be safe and warm everyone ~ hope you all have a terrific weekend!!
Anyone remember the 2-day BLIZZARD April 6. 1982?
Not sure how local it was, but it took 3 hours to drive from my friend's house, 15 minutes away, with a truck with snow chains, me hanging out the right door and trying to see where
the edge was. We were 4' behind a trailer truck before we saw its brake lights.
My friend had gone into labor (home birth) and stopped. Good thing, the midwife was
stuck 40 miles away.
Oh dear noknok ~ thank goodness your friend's labor took a break during the storm!!
I do recall my first winter here, as I got trapped at an airport (Chicago) on my way home from Los Angeles ~ it was early January 1996. I had never seen so much snow before, and it was weeks before it all melted to reveal the garbage encased in it that people had put out for trash collection.
Well, I'm staying home and off the roads...don't care for the poor drivers here ~ especially in bad weather.
Stay warm!
That snowy Easter was in 1970, my daughter's first Easter. We've also had an Easter, about 1975/76 when it was in the 90's.
Pirl, I remember that hot Easter. We had Easter at our Aunt's house in Baldwin, LI and we went to Jones Beach for a while!
Sleeting outside right now - just noticed. I am in the basement, potting up dahlias.
We have about an inch already and school closed half way through the day. So I got to drive home before the snow.
It is really come down fast and hard here in thick clumps. Glad I picked up food yesterday! :-)
Good grief! I must be ancient to remember all these weather events.
January 13-14 of '78 was the great ice storm and at night everything looked magical (yes, I was out with my camera) but many people lost power. Later the same month I just returned to work (first day) and we had to shut down due to the blizzard that went on for days.
The winter of '95 - '96 was either 5' or 8' of snow in total. Sunglasses were mandatory eye wear for driving due to the snow being everywhere - no relief for the eyes.
Yes, Victor, we went up to a beach called Bayville that Easter!
Pirl, how funny about Bayville. And I remember '95 - '96 very well! That's the year we bought our house. We went to contract in Dec. and they wanted the closing in early Feb. I said "No way!", not with this winter. Good move as we had a few more storms in that period. We closed on the ides. The other day was our 11th anniversary in the house.
Congratulations on having the foresight to avoid moving when we were loaded with snow.
I took this picture 2 day ago, we are expecting 10 to 22 inches of snow tonight! Our dog loves the piles of snow, Queen Samantha! You can see my garden trellis' they are 6 feet high and that line in front of the garden is the top of my picnic table. I gues s I won't be planting peas!
Have a great weekend...
How thankful we all are for central heating!
In 1978 the 2 day blizzard led to the highways being closed here. No work. It was a snow day for grown-ups.
Jan, 13th, 1978 (it was a friday) I went into labor in the middle of that wonderful snowstorm! She was born on the 15th after 48 hrs. of labor and 21 days early. She weighed in @ 7lbs. 7oz, and 20.5" long. After the 48 hrs. .....there was doubts she would ever have any siblings!!!
It is amazing she has siblings. That always amazed me. If men gave birth there would be no siblings.
Owww!
Oh the doctor told me it was a long labor cause it was my first and they would be shorter on the second. What second??? I did however have a 2nd and she was 21 hours.
#3. 19 hrs.
#4 11hrs
#5. 23 hrs.
I did NOT try for # 6 I'm thick headed...but not that thick.
My sister delivered #5 in the hospital elevator!
That was # 3 for me...it was close but i made it upstairs to a cot in the hallway. I was stripping and pushing as they wheeled me into the delivery room. The doc was giving me Holy O' H_ _ _ for waiting so long. My response to him: "This is my 3rd child...I knew what you were going to do to me when I got here, so I waited!!" I was actually doing loops in the parkinglot until the urge to push came!!!
