Oh, sure Carol ... rub it in ... she gets to have this fabulous experience of trekking through the jungle to see these beaut's in the "wild," and then when she gets home its like "oh look the ones in captivity just happen to all be blooming." I am not jealous or anything like that (LOL!!!).
They are absolutely gorgeous, Carol!

OH...forgot the cv. Monette....

Ann...SOME of us must pay the price! It was a tough decision but I decided to sacrifice my life and limb for the good of all!!! (right!)...And I must chalk it up to MSU fert. for my enthusiastic plants...that, and spring!!!

Oh, Carol little ms. Monette is just spectacular! I love how each bloom has a different color scheme to it - on one the red is more prominent, on one the yellow is more prominent - how divine! Do you think it has something to do with the bud's exposure to sunlight?
This is going to sound terrible, but I just want to pop it in my mouth because it looks so yummy.

Okay so now i'm jealous!!! Doesnt make any difference that I have one single hoya (hindu rope) plant with 129 peduncles on it,it's the only @#$% that I have in bloom!!! What's going on!! I have a ton with peduncles on them but I think they are just teasing me!

Congrats to everyone with lots of hoyas in bloom right now. The flowers are all beautiful especially the pachy, archie and mendorensis. I have all 3 of those varieties myself but not one of them has a peduncle on it yet.

I just received the pachy about 4 days ago in a trade. The mendorensis came from Mel. I have 2 archihes. One is supposed to be pink and the other red but they both came from a source that is notorious for having mislabled plant material in general not just hoyas. I also had what was supposed to have a white form from the same source but it died shortly after receiving it.

I'm pretty sure that the pachy and mendorensis are labled right but until the archies bloom I wont have any idea as to what they might be.

I have one hoya that I am determined to make bloom this year. That one would be H. diversifolia. I dont know how or what it'll take to do it but i'm gonna work on that sucker and make it bloom!!! It grows like wildfire but getting it to bloom is another story all together!!

Mark... very nice shot. Is that nectar or was it just misted?? If it is nectar do you have to place something under the plant to catch it?

Dr Kitty.... That one sure is purrrity. Does it smell nice. Glad to hear it is easy to getto bloom my cutting is growing up a bit so maybe someday:)

Bea

San Francisco, CA

Bea, it's nectar. Pachyclada always makes just enough nectar to look photogenic, but it never seems to actually drip. I do put newspaper down for some, like kerrii.
Ann, how about a shot of the leaves of tjadasmalangensis? They're so impressive.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Fianally a bella that is thriving and has multiple peduncles on every branch!!!! In a week or so this baby is gonna be loaded with flowers!!

Nice flowers, Ann! "Dr." Kitty?? Did you complete something????

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Mark, you ask and you shall receive ... I finally managed to step back from my bloom obsession long enough to photograph the H. tjadasmalangensis/macrophylla leaves. They are beauts aren't they?!
Karen, yes I did finally complete my program - hooray!!

Nice shot, I love the huge leaf with the tiny umbel.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Yep, I really like the beauty of the leaves too. It really is a lovely plant.

Beautiful leaf - I like that one!! And congrats Ann!!

I always enjoy looking at everyone else's beautiful pictures of their blooms. I finally have some to share. My padangensis is blooming. It bloomed for the first time last August but most of the buds blasted. Luckily that didn’t happen this time. It was difficult getting a good picture...this is the best I could do.

My javanica is also getting ready to bloom again. It's blooming from the same peduncle as last time which I think is a bit unusual for this species.

Now I know why I see so many pictures with water droplets. You take one picture......see all the dust.....wash off the plant and try again. LOL

My lacunosa is getting ready to bloom again as well. My DS-70 has 4 long peduncles but they just seem to be sitting there not doing anything.

Sandy, nice clear shot on the H. padangensis. Well done.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Wow Sandy - that H. padangensis of yours is STUNNING!!!
Congrats. What's it smell like?
Ann

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Thanks Mark. I was having trouble getting a shot with more than a couple of the flowers in focus. It has that nice subtle pink which disappeared when I had to use the flash. We haven't had much sun in my neck of the woods for a long time.

I can’t detect any scent Ann but then I don’t have a good sense of smell.

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Had several with buds blast in the last week or so. But, I've got lacunosa var. lacunosa (itty bitty cutting) blooming for about the fourth time! It kills me how little bitty cuttings put off bloom after bloom, and some of my bigger plants - nada! They remind of my kids when they were teenagers - they do what they want when they want!! The fragrance is wonderful, though!

My cinnamomifolia should be popping today!! I dont see how those buds can possibly stay closed any longer as big as they are!

I mentioned in an earlier post that my jaavanica/multiflora not sure which now,was about to pop also. Well would you beleive that all I did was rotate the pot and about half of them fell off!! All of the peduncles have fileld back up with buds though and the ones which didnt drop from me disturbing it should be open today or tomorrow.

I'm having a time getting pimenteliana to bloom. Carol sent me a nice plant several months ago and it had peduncles when she sent it. The crazy thing will form buds that look like they could open at any time and then BAM!! They fall off!! This has happened at least a half dozen times now so I still have yet to see it in bloom.

Maybe when the temps warm up and stay warm things will hold the buds better and i'll get some more to actually open up for me. We had a full 2 weeks of very nice weather. Temps ranging from the low 50's all the way up to 80. Then just out of the blue 2 nights in a row of hard frost and then back to 80 again. Our 7 day forecast is for nights to be in the mid to high 50's and days to be 60's-80

I have more and more hoyas putting on peduncles now and I havent determined if it's from using the homebrew or if the plants have just reached maturity. It makes me wonder becasue o another thread within this forum there is a question about how long will it take for EA hoyas to bloom. Well I have bought EA hoyas that were huge and had peduncles already and then i've had some that were huge that I waited a while to see bloom.

Some of the hoyas that I have loaded with peduncles right now are only 11 months old. I received them as cuttigns from D.L. in April of 06" Anyone who has ordered from David knows the size and quality of material that he sends to us. I always cut mine into as many smaller pieces as possible to obtain a fuller pot quicker than just leving the cutting in one piece.

So why are these 11 month old hoyas in 6" baskets full of bloom spurs and some of the full 8"-10" baskets of specimen plants have not bloomed yet?? Does it make a difference from which part of the plant the cutting was originally obtained?

I know with some plants such as brugmanisas (aka) angels trumpets that if you remove a cutting from a region of the plant that has already produced flowers that cutting will bloom quicker than one which has been taken from a part of the plant that has not bloomed yet. Is this the case with hoyas as well??

I think, DM, that there is no answer to your question. I have waited 3 years for a H. citrina to bloom (from a cutting from David Liddle) and I have taken cuttings when are blooming at 6 months. NOT all of them...but a couple. I have a tray of H. cv. Christine with 4 sets of leaves (1+ years old) all blooming AND one pot full of cuttings to root and half of them have BIG roots and the other half NADA. I am sure it has something to do with the age of the vine from where the cutting is taken + which side of the pot it is put in + the phase of the moon and what music I play on my boom box between 1100 and 1400 hours. Now...that is as close as I can come to an answer!!!

Sorry - can't help. But it does help to laugh!!!

WOW, alot of blooming going on. Congrats everyone on your blooms. I have been out of town and I came home to H. brevialta, H verticillata var, and H. verticillata blooming. Nice welcome home present.

Your flowers are beautiful. I especially like H. padangensis. They are all gorgeous aren't they.

A couple of years ago a dear friend who had lost most of her hoyas sent me a few of the remaining ones t o grow out and bloom for her. One was labeled H. poolei (Bob Smoley). Now, H. poolei is considered a syn. for H. anulata/H. pseudolitoralis so I knew the name wasn't correct...alas it bloomed last night and it is H. vitiensis. The corollas are the most magnificent mauve I have ever seen!!!! Can't find a fragrance....

You gonna have any of that for sale any time soon!!!!!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Now...why on earth would I want to sell that plant? No...sorry.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh Carol, that is ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUS!! And, it's even more special because of its history.
Good growing!!!

A new one for me: Hoya ischnopus. This plant seems to be very similar to H. kenejiana and H. montana, and doesn't look like the H. ischnopus featured in the Hoya Handbook, which had larger flowers that looked more like H. carnosa except in color. The scent is strong and rather interesting- I can't put my finger on it exactly, but it seems close to over-ripe mango and green tea. Interesting, but not exactly pleasant. The flowers are quite small- a little over 1/3".
