maybe I have the wrong town starting with a B??? I will do some checking before you do and find the exact location of this big field grown operation for cutting flowers...
Texas Native Plant Sale April 7 Boerne Tx
I'll probably need to leave for Corpus around noon or so, Silver....so I'll have to play it by ear....plus the forecast is for rain this Saturday..which is fine, since we always need it this time of year. I can't go too crazy with the buying and stuff...since I've now got my eye on an Eve's Necklace tree for 24.99, lol. But we'll see... :)
Melanie
OMG! I just looked at the forecast for this weekend! It's awful! All that lovely spring weather we've been having and it's supposed to have a high of 50 and rain Saturday. I don't know....
I know Linda! Dadburn it.....90% chance of rain tomorrow. I can't believe it is going to get down to 37° on Sunday. I'll have to really play it by ear now. A terrible forecast...but forgiveable since we need the rain so bad.... : /
Melanie
The sale is mostly under cover so it shouldn't effect that. Except that some people will not come out so maybe you can have a chance at better stuff? *g
I'm going rain/snow/sunshine whatever...
I will probably be there around 9am. I will be wearing jeans and teal sweater if it is cold enough or unicorn t-shirt if it is warmer. I should have Snickers with me (if you don't know who she is well look below!)
Whether I can go or not depends on whether I am still running a fever. My dr thinks I have cedar fever. If it gets that cold and it rains the cedar fever should go away shouldn't it? Well anyway if I'm still sick, it's probably not a good idea to be out on a cold rainy day.:( If I go though, where do we meet and when and where do we eat? I have to be back here by 2:00.
i have to work from 7 am to 3pm. this is a one day thing right?
yep. one day only.
I think the caverens inn resturant is the place to eat. It has just about any kind of food and they make it from scratch and it is great food.
figured somewhere from 11-1 to eat. Depending on who comes and what they want. I'm pretty easy myself.
Is the restaurant close to the fairgrounds? And do we want to meet somewhere at 9:00? Or maybe later? Does anybody have one of those Dave's Garden t-shirts that they can wear?
the resturant is a couple of miles from the fairgrounds on I10.
I have some mail I have to pick up but otherwise I will be at the sale.
d-mailing my cell
Sorry, I chickened out. I hope it was a good one for somebody.:)
I went to the plant sale, but didn't get there until after noon. I was waiting, hoping it would warm up just a little, but it didn't...then I finally heard some plants calling me from Boerne and went anyway. Beautiful selection of plants! DH went back to the truck and waited there after about a minute. I didn't care that much when I started losing feeling in my hands. But by the time I had bought 4 plants, I was starting to lose feeling in my feet also and left. By then most of the vendors were leaving anyway. I felt for them...really! But what great plants!
I hmm'd and haww'd about what to do until about 9:30 am this morning and then the rains came at our house for round 2! I gave up and we decided to go ahead and hit the road south 2 hours from San Antonio in Alice. What a dadburn shame tho....I just didn't think I would be able to handle that wind and rain. Will they have another sale this year??? Hope so... : /
Melanie
I think they are supposed to have one in Fredericksburg next weekend.
Melanie, it's an annual event....they have it every April. If you go to the meetings of the S.A. chapter of Native Plant Society of Texas, there's always some plants and seeds there. And I really think that Natives of Texas near Kerrville is good (they are one of the many vendors at the plant sale in Boerne). I usually make it a day when I go to Natives of Texas. I stop by the town of Medina either on the way there or back and go by Love Creek Orchards to eat goodies and look around...or visit that nursery by the river in Medina that also has native plants (my mind can't seem to come up the name of it right now). Really, one trip like that keeps me so happy I can't stop smiling for a week!
Sounds absolutely delightful...Linda..! I love that area anyway...around Medina. Anyway that I can get more info. about the SA chapter?
Melanie
well I went.. we froze our *#%$'s off.
Spent about $40.00 on plants from the Native plant society booth. Nice plants.. cold day!
lol Nada.....you and Linda were braver souls then I... :)

Melanie, the S. A. chapter meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. Next meeting is on the 24th of April. It's in the Lion's Club building at the corner of Broadway & Mulberry, 2809 Broadway. I hope you'll come by sometime! And I am pretty sure that the name of the nursery in Medina is Medina Garden Nursery.
If there's anyone out there that likes native plants and hasn't been to Natives of Texas, you really need to go there. Their demonstration gardens are so well done. Awsome doesn't begin to cover it.
Does "Natives of Texas" supply wholesale plants to other nurserys, Silver? I could swear that I see that name on some of the plant tags at Rainbow Garden.
Thanks for the info., Linda...! :) I would like to stop by sometime...tho I'm not real familiar with that part of town.
Melanie :)
I'm not sure about that TxTurqoize. They might.
