Antoinette,
This bloom 'Purple Fantasy'
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3266376
I also got seeds from her. Turns out she lives about 60-miles from me near Longview.
These are Ipomoea cordatotriloba [as Ron also confirmed]
BUT....BUT
Ron, This is one of the blooms I want to talk to you about.
I have photos of several that I'll get around to talking to you about and sending you photos.
These blooms all had Heart-Shaped leaves [if I remember correctly]
and the blooms were smaller. Also had a Tri-Colored Pink Bloom. Pretty Lighter Pink Halo before the Throat.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3266436
BOTH of these are gorgeous. Hope you grow them again.
Antoinette, I ALWAYS get something unusual and beautiful from Parks Tie Dye Seeds.
ALWAYS!
This may be the first Year I won't be growing them because I have so many JMGs to grow.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3266428
Wow, what a color
http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3266452
Nice Blue.
Antoinette,
What do your seeds look like from your Caprice?
I have seeds for the first time this year and am wondering what I get from them.
On the Gray Lady. It is only known as Gray Lady. It is Ipomoea nil.
Stacy got blooms with a very slight pink tint.
Some of my blooms have been a definite and shimmering Solid White with no Gray tones,
yet some did have very slight Gray toned colors.
I have the story about those blooms that I learned from Ron, but can't get to my notes at the moment.
This would be regarding how the blooms came about.
Emma
Very pretty blooms.
Thanks Ron for the IDs..
That Purple Fantasy from Ebay was in a trade I made, and it did have the heart shaped leaves, the pot itself was by other MGs so the leaves of the others are in the background or next to it. It seemed to really struggle in the heat and did not like where I had it.
Emma, how did your plant do? Here it is again, don't know if the leaves are showing up, these are photos before I knew how to use the macro..
Emma,
the caprice seeds are all tan, but however, there were some black seeds in some of the pods, not a whole lot, but there were some. The flower from the white seeds were Lt. Blue and the flower from the Black seeds Dark Blue with the same pattern only reversed.
It could be that I sent you some last year with our first trade, don't know, I do know that I sent some to QueenB, but do not remember if I sent both colors of seeds. I'll have to check my records on what I sent you.
I could not find more photos, the first year that I grew that one I did not have a Digital camera and in 2004 I finally got one photo, I wish had taken more.
The 'Caprice' and 'Sydney' are relatively new marketing names for a light blue purpurea...both show the usual variations of basic color, throat and rib starring of the light blue purps...
There was a darker blue purpurea with primary fold starring (that I liked) with an all white throat being marketed as 'Ismay',but the stock seems to have run out and is now being substituted with anything that the suppliers happen to have...
I've always liked the light blue purps like shown here

TTY,...
Ron
gee, thanks for the comparisons...
Gourd - There's been alot of confusion regarding the names of the relatively dark blue purpueas and I tried to 'codify' the main differences in a previous thread devoted to this subject here
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/641273/
I tried to share guidelines to distinguish amongst the various 'names' but there remains alot of overlapping features...

Ron
Ronnie,
LOVE your Sydney Bloom. Nice!
Antoinette,
My Ipomoea cordatotriloba with Heart-Shaped leaves bloomed nicely and was always loaded with blooms. This year, however, I will be ripping them out. They are a perennial in my zone. I like the blooms much better on another Ipomoea cordatotriloba that I have with Tri-Lobed Leaves and larger blooms. These vines grew 12' to 15' up my pecan tree and onto one of the branches. Pretty display too.
Antoinette, I do still have some seeds that you sent me that I haven't grown out yet, and I'm thinking you sent me seeds of your Caprice - which I am planning on growing this year.
Ron,
on this bloom from zemerson

If I recall, this is what he got when he grew some Lavender MG seeds that I sent to him. I've been wanting to grow mine again to see what they do, but haven't yet. It is a pretty Blue bloom!
Emma
Ron,
That was a very enlightening thread.. I loved it.. there is something that always tells me to compare for differences, so I land up planting several of the same type of species from different sources, but did not know exactly what to look for. That thread helped me a great deal..
Emma,
I like Ronnies bloom better, also, it looks like the one I have, but at the same time it looks different and I don't know what it is. The plants in CA bloomed ALOT, that I got tired of collecting seeds for it, until it starting throwing those darker blues in there, then I examined the seeds and started to take notice.
By the way, if anyone reading this wants some of the tan seeds, just send me an SASE with a note of what you want.. I've got lots of the tan seeds.
A.
A. Dmail me and we can set up a swap. I love your flowers!☺
The I. cairica I thought I purchased turned out to be I. wrightii. I am still hoping to find some I. cairica seeds some day.
Sure thing Ronnie,
Beth, this darn Cairica only produced one seed last year.. the year before Nada.. I'll take a photo of it before i try to germinate it. It is quite roundish. Also, I have a feeling that it only produces one seed per pod. I expected more than one seed and it was just one big one. Hopefully mine will come back, I'll go check the roots on this one outside, it is hard to tell which vine it is because the name tags faded.
DON't use Sharpies out there, use pencil or black wax marking pencils, the wax smears but at least it doesn't disappear/fade.
A.
Beth,
Betcha you got your I. cairica seeds here
http://www.mountainmeadowseeds.com/Flowering-Vines.html
For some reason, this guy refuses to correct the listing of this MG -
EVEN knowing what it REALLY is ! Hmmmmm
Also, there is ANOTHER MG listed incorrectly on his page.
I just got seeds from I. cairica [I think] From Germany,
but they look like I. turbinata to me.
I need to check the PlantFiles and/or ask Ron.
If they really are I. cairica [but don't hold your breath], I will share with you
Also, Frank is looking for these seeds as well.
Emma
Yes, these seeds are really I. wrightii. I didn't have wrightii so I was still happy to get them. I CAN tell you the seeds are viable because I have plants growing from these seeds.
