Craig's List

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Does anyone know how you can post the same ad, same day in different categories on www.craigslist.com? I have tried and it always says you cannot have it posted more than once but I see others do it all the time and the ad APPEARS to be the exact same wording. I've tried to re-post stuff multiple days in a row by deleting an ad and creating it again and it still will say it's to similar to something recently posted.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance!

I think it says somewhere in the 'terms of use' or 'help' page that you can re-post an ad after 48 hrs... I've noticed inconsistencies in how the rules are applied, because either somebody flags something or the administrators interpret the rules differently. You should try asking in their help forum too, if you haven't already... but they're not always very helpful either
What a zoo that place is!

That's considered spam. If they catch you or you are reported, they will delete the listings and/or your account. What is the general category or type of item? If you are selling something that people regularly search for and they notice you spamming they will report you because they don't want to see the same ad every day. And if the category is competitive other sellers have an incentive to report you.

CL has reached the point where half of the responses are from scam "buyers" anyway.

I guess that depends on what part of the country you are in. So far I have only had one spam seller responding to one of my sells ads and have sold a lot of stuff. Hopefully I will be able to sell a LOT more since I have boxes of stuff from three different estates I need to get rid of.

Maybe it's cleared up a bit, it's been a while since I posted anything for sale there, but the Nigerian scam responses were common. I'd get two or three per day.

About the 48 hours - you have to let the time pass and delete the old one. You can't have the same thing in more than one category. Those people you see may be posting the same thing under more than one ID.

"A zoo" seems an accurate description. I like the basic idea of it but it doesn't seem to run well does it. I've tried to sell several things and get tons of emails on them but then no buyers? What? My price???? I've bought lots of good stuff, especially if you have babies it's great, but so many sellers tell me they get a ton of inquiries and then no shows? I think that is the rudest.

But I did have one crappy buying experience. Drove into San Antonio, across town, took 40 minutes to find the house, to buy one small bag of baby clothes, got to her door with my 20 in hand. She says, "Oh I don't think I have change to break that." (Clothes were 15). I told her I could write her a check. She said, "Craig's recommends we don't take checks." She referred me down the road to a Walgreens she thought would make change for me. I decided not to bother. It's much nicer if one is that picky to say cash only, exact change.

I think our area renatlynne craig's is pretty good!

thanks all for the posts!

I see lots of re-posts because of no-shows. Just thoughtless.

How is this person able to post sooooo many pics when Craig's only offers 4 spots for pics??????

I think it's because that listing has photos hosted on another site. They probably don't care how many photos you have if you aren't using their resources to post them.

thank you! i didn't notice that.

While checking out Craig's list just now, I noticed
the upper right hand corner link list to flag, or report
a bad ad.

I right clicked on "prohibted" thinking it would explain
what was prohibted, but instead, the screen refreshed
with the following. Maybe this is why some are getting
flags when they did nothing wrong:

thanks for flagging (or nominating for best of)!

* If you flagged by mistake - don't worry, it takes more than one flag to affect a posting.

* Over 15% of all craigslist postings are removed through community flagging.

* 98-99% of postings removed are in violation of the craigslist terms of use.

On behalf of your fellow craigslist users, thanks for taking the time to flag!

Huh. I just flagged someone accidentally! :-o
