Tampa AV Show
How could you narrow it down to just two favorites? I really liked Blue Dragon, Emilie Savage and Sugar Plum Dream. Lovin that foliage on Sugar Plum Dream! Also there was almost no green on some of the leaves of Fisherman's Paradise. WOW!!! You had some pictures of plant list for bingo. Hope you will share them when they're called. Melissa
great pictures, really enjoyed them, my wish list just got bigger.lol

I'm glad you all liked the photos. My Dad couldn't believe I took a photo of every single plant, but I was explaining to him that some people in rural areas may never get to go to a show. I'm also using the pics to update the plant files here on DG. There were all sorts of people there, too. I heard a couple with an Irish accent, and there were two women whose accent I couldn't place but I think it was vaguely Carribean. I think the two ladies weren't regular AV folks because I heard them talking about how they had never seen variegated foliage. I thought it was cool that so many people were being educated and enjoying themselves.
I also forgot to mention what I bought! (Duh!) I spent the morning volunteering my time by ridding a local park of Brazilian Pepper trees (evil, invasive plant). So by the time we got to the show there wasn't much left, but I found some leaves I wanted. Gotta give Mom credit for finding "Bud's Melanie". I had to have that one because it's named after me! I also picked up "Ode to Beauty", "Victorian Velvet", and "Buckeye Colossal". Then, when I went to Home Depot for potting supplies, I found a columnea in a hanging basket! Of course it came home with me. The lady at the counter had no idea what it was (typical HD employee) but was admiring it.
The AV club folks said they would be at the USF plant festival in April so I'll have more to report then. Mom and I are going to have to work out a plan where she runs to the AV table and I run to the Bromeliad Society. So many plants, so little yard space...it's a good thing I can put the bromeliads in trees!
I wish they had a show near me. It would be sooo much fun!
Thank you for the pictures! I always wonder what a show is like. You right about the people that lives in rural areas. The only shows in my state thats even close to me are about 3 1/2- 4 hours drive for me and thats to far for me to go.. Thanks again I enjoyed the beautiful pictures.
Thanks for the pics and adding to the must have list!!! LOL
I went to a show over the weekend and took pics of everything, but haven't got them on the computer yet. As soon as I do I'll post em all.
Debbie
Thanks for the pictures. It was very thoughtful of you to do this. Many of us do not go to the shows. Linda
Aww...you're welcome everyone. I was one of those crazy people who stood in line outside Best Buy on the day after Thanksgiving just to get a new digital camera, so I have fun taking pictures with it. Debbie, I can't wait to see what varieties they have out your way! I went to Pinellas County's (where St. Pete, FL is) AV show a few weekends ago, and then Tampa's this past weekend. It's amazing how two different clubs can grow such different varieties; I can only imagine what people are growing in other states. And I think we all know how much plants can vary depending on the kind of environment they're grown in, so I think it's good to have several pictures of the same plant. Sorry to everyone who had to add some of these to their shopping lists! I think there are a few Mom and I will be pursuing as well.
