I'm jes fed up with the confounded Sunbeam (brand) of electric blankets!
I see that BeautyRest makes an electric blanket also .. but, I'm a bit apprehensive; since hearing that Sunbeam is actually the manufacturer ..
Have checked out the the Chattam & Wells brand of electric blankets. Price is somewhat higher than I'm accustomed, but (will) be afforded - if the blankets' electrical heating systems prove to be worthy of enduring a life-span of more than two or three Winters! My Momma used to swear by the Sunbeam brand - but I'm giving up on {them}. Not worth the trouble to send them for the supposed warranty either. Jes too much sugar for a dime .. (lol)
I've looked at WalMart.com, Overstock.com, PriceGrabber.com, Vermont Country Store.com, Amazon.com, Sears.com, Target.com .. and plant to check the Kmart.com site.
Question #1:
Is there anyone that has any familiarity and/or experience with the Chattam & Wells electric blankets -?- Please, share any and all info and opinions about them ...
The Vermont Country Store also has an electric blanket which piques my interest also. However, there doesn't seem to be any manufacturer/brand info available - other than 'Our' Classic Electric Blanket.
Question #2:
Anyone that may be familiar with the electric blankets offered by the Vermont Country Store .. and wouldn't mind sharing (their) reviews and rating of the electric blankets that the VC Store offers?
Have seen another, called Spring Air electric blankets (Spring Air Ultimate Heated Blanket), such as offered by Target.com > http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_7/602-3869199-3915806?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0002E4MX0
Question #3:
Does anyone have any knowledge and experience about the (pricey) Spring Air brand of electric blankets -?-
And yet another brand, of which I'm totally unfamiliar: the Sleepwarmer brand ..
Question #4:
Anyone having knowledge and experience with the (even pricier) Sleepwarmer brand of Automatic electric blankets -?-
Question #5:
Does anyone know of any other web site suggestions, for internet shopping for electric blankets?
Any and all info you may care to lend .. will be very much appreciated.

Magpye,
There are Electric Mattress Pads available too. I bought my dad one from Target, the Spring Air brand and he couldn't be happier with it. He has tried so many different electric blankets, but he always felt like half of him was cold (he's on blood thinners), once he tried the mattress pad he said it was the "coziest warm he had ever been".
Alot of times he just turns it on a half hour or so before he is ready to climb into bed and pre-warms the bed, lol, then he goes to bed and shuts it off.
I can't even feel the wires in it and there aren't any lumpy things to sleep on.
Hope this helps,
mg
Edited to add--My dad has had the mattress pad for about 6 years now, I think.

I also have an electric mattress pad and use it on really cold nights...lol ok cold for here. Came with the Craftmatic bed so I have no idea who makes it but I like it over electric blankets.
I do have one Spring Air that I got from my parents house after my Mom passed away, haven't used it more than one or two times so can't give you a true review. I'd say Mom had it about 4 years and used it nightly and it still works fine.
Haven't needed an electric blanket since I started getting hot flashes! Can someone invent a cooling blanket, please.
LOL - I'm with you June. Couldn't get through the night without my ceiling fan going full force. Poor DH huddle under the covers trying to keep warm!
Right, Gliz...what we need the scientists to invent is a dual-control electric blanket that heats on one side, cools on the other.
Magpye, sorry to get off-topic! If you can't decide on an electric blanket, I recommend flannel sheets instead. They feel warm when you get into bed, without actually heating you up. I got some lovely fitted flannel sheet sets from the LL Bean and Lands' End catalogs about 5 years ago, and they have lasted really well. (Only used in the cold months, of course!).

( .. no worries .. )
Oh, make no bones about it: for I'm one to (generally) prefer to sleep a bit 'too cool' than 'too warm'! However, certainly don't relish the idea of havin' to crawl betwinx the initial cold covers at night either. (hee) And yes'sms - our ceiling fan is on high, along with the sliding glass door and at least one window open - and all, while icicles may dangle from the roof and a frigid freezin' wind blowing!
June_Ontario ..
So, with the King (and I believe, the queen sized) electric blankets, there are dual controls. Just don't turn your side on, at all! (hee) Heck .. you could probably benefit from this one! .. lol ..
Never cared for flannel anything. I have some flannel shirts that I'll layer on over cotton clothing, for outdoor wear .. but then I start shedding them real quick-like.
The king size blankets with the dual controls (have usually) served our purposes well. See .. the ol Coot normally gets to sleep in his 'hi' settings all thru the night - while I jes want that wee bit of warmth to ease under the covers in (to take the chill off). In our situation, one side of the blanket isn't working at all, while the other takes its' spells to work/not work.
This is my 2nd Sunbeam blanket that has lost its' 'umm-pah' after only a couple of years of service.
I'd seen the electric mattress pads .. and may will be something we need to give a bit more consideration to.
Truly appreciating all of the suggestiongs and opinions ..

Years ago I had an electric mattress pad. I used a timer and had it come on a while before bedtime. Was that ever nice to get into a warm bed.
i have had a sunbeam elecric blanket for over 35 years. and while i rarely used it for sleeping i have for many, many years used it as a heating mat for my vegetable plants and that was leaving them on for 17 hours a day for weeks at a time. i no longer use it for that purpose because the people on the vegetable forum told me it was dangerous.
