Plane crash!!!

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

A bit too close to home for comfort. Yesterday, while putting out bird seed, I heard what sounded like a plane in trouble. Not long after I heard a loud explosion followed by several smaller ones. Next there are thick black billows of smoke comming from the property next to mine...it smells AWFUL. Put down the jugs of seed and walk partway out back to take a look...heavy smoke, but I can't really see anything else. Two vehicles fly past my house and down the neighbor's driveway. Another comes down the road, sees me and pulls over. The driver said he is with the fire department and is this Two Trail. Yes it is...what's going on? A plane crashed...so I direct him to the neighbor's.

Now there's all sorts of vehicles flying down the road...fire trucks, law enforcement,EMS forrestry department and news media. So much for the birds...I walk over to the "command center". The plane crashed on the far corner of the neighbors property. By no small miracle both the pilot and passenger managed to escape and were transported to the hospital with burns to their faces and arms.

Ready for a cold one I sit in the Memory Garden which faces the road. As one fire truck is leaving I flag it down to ask is everything secure at the crash site...yes, forrestry cut a fire break and the fire is all but out. Whew!!! It could have been SOOOO much worse. The wind was really kicking yesterday. Fortunately where the plane crashed there is a creek with swampy ground around it so the fire really couldn't go anywhere. But I'll tell ya what...it was definately too close to home for comfort !!

Wow! You are leading a very charmed life! That is just too close for comfort! I'm glad everyone was OK.

On a somewhat bizzar ending...while doing stuff for dinner Bill and I heard gunshots from the direction of the crash. OK what now?....many more shots followed by a siren. So back to the "command center" I go. Seems that someone was doing some target shooting the other side of the crash site and a deputy hit his siren to chase them off. Normally we would not have given it a second thought....out here where we live folks target shoot all the time...but comming from where the plane went down it was like rut rho...time to worry? Nothing like quite living in the country! LOL

thats quite a story alright.
I am on the landing flight run here and always wait for something to fall from the sky!!

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

sugarweed....the story in Sunday's paper said an electrical fire started in the cabin and the plane stalled. Nothing new in the paper yesterday or today. I had to report for jury summons yesterday so wasn't home to catch the news on T.V. So far as I know both people are as OK as can be expected. I have no idea if the FAA or NTSB (NSTB?) have checked it out yet...they would have to go past my house to get to the crash site. If/when I hear anything else I'll post.

Wow Ginger, What an experience! That would scare me silly! My husband teaches in the Avaiation field, at an Aeronautical University here in Daytona Beach. We hear about small planes crashing every once in awhile, usually mechanical error, but sometimes pilot error. I can't imagine having one crash in my back yard! Thank Goodness the pilot was able to miss any homes in the area! He and his crewmate are lucky to be alive. Geesh! It's bad enough that we have to watch the other cars when on the highway, now we have to watch the sky when gardening! Sure glad no one was hurt seriously or killed.

Shucks! I have nightmares already, 'cause I live under a landing flight path too. Yikes!
