Possibly adding photos to trade list

This may be more of a challenge than it is worth, but I was wondering if we could add pictures to the things that we want to trade. That way people will know exactly what they will be getting. I have a lot of little AVs that I could take photos of so that whoever I trade with will know exactly what they will be getting. Do you think this could be given some thought?

I think it's already done, when I click on somebodys trade list, if possible there is a pic, we can't see them ourselves, but when I look at mine from an outsiders view the pics are right there....

Hmmm, I will have to look for that. So how do we do that? Do we add the name of what we have for trade and then somehow add a photo of it?

everytime i add something for trade, it automatically finds a match in plant files for me if it can...click on my name and look at my trade list...there are pics beside most of them, I cant see them unless I view me from an ouside perspective, but the links are there when I add something.
What I do, is find the plant I have in Plant Files, then scroll to the bottom where it asks if we want to add it to our trade list....for me it works best cause I have a hard time distinguishing between family, genus, etc....

I just added 4 plants to my trade list but there is not a photo beside them. I will log out and see if it shows a photo of the plants that I just added.

When you put an entry into your tradelist using the genus, species and cultivar, it will automatically link to that plant's page in PlantFiles.

You can also add a plant to your tradelist from the PlantFile page. Towards the bottom there's trading tools to either add it to your want list or have list. If you do it that way, you may have to go into your trade page and change from seeds to plants if it's plants that you have/want.

If you have a photo of the plant submitted into PlantFiles, I believe it will automatically pick your photo to use in your tradelist, otherwise I think it uses the first photo in the list.

Well I have 4 little Alsobias that I want to trade this spring. That is what I want the picture of, not the full-grown ones that are listed in the PlantFiles. I just think it would be neat that when we list a plant to trade that there be a little box to add a photo just like there is on all of the other forums. That is what I was asking about and wanting to do. So I just listed it even though it does not show the photo that I want it to show. Is there a way to edit the photo that is shown right now. To look at what I am talking about, go to the trade list and look under Plantcrazii and you will see it.

I don't 'get it' Plantcrazii either...don't feel bad....this web site is the best for info.....just never have figured out all of the options available...

I peeked at your tradelist and I see where you have 4 of the same plant listed. Is that what you meant to do, since you have 4 to trade? You can do it that way, or you can just put the number you have in the comment area for your own use to keep tract. That's what I did.

I don't know of a way to add your own photos to the tradelist without adding them to PlantFiles first. Also, I don't know that there is a way to pick a different photo to show up. Maybe Dave or Terry will be along and shed some light on this for us.

I think Dave has set it up to look for your photos in PlantFiles to match up first. So if you add a photo to PF, it *should* be the one that displays when someone (or you) views your list through the "view others' tradelists" link.

I have to say that I miss the ability to add my own photo specifically to the item in my trade list... I love the link to the PF entry, but I'd like to be able to include a photo if need be to show the actual size of plants, rooted cuttings, etc that I may have available...

I added the same plant 4 times because I did not know how to make the quantity 4. I wanted others to know that I have 4 plants to trade. Is there any way I can delete the other 3 and just put an note in the comments section stating that I have 4?

I have to agree with Critter. I have many plants that are best appreciated if viewed, but I may be unsure which species or cultivar they may be. Besides, I hesitate to offer collected seeds under the cultivar name, since not all cultivars are reliable from seed. It would be great to be able to add our own photos when necessary.

I agree with being able to add our own images. I don't always no the species or cultivar either. Plant file images are great for people that don't have their own pics, but maybe we could have a choice.

I agree. I have some lovely aquilegia seeds to offer, but I am unclear what their parentage is. I wouldn't be sure where to place the photos in the Plant Files.

I wonder if it would work by posting the pictures of your plants (that you have for trade) in your DG Diary, then on your tradelist have give a link to that particular diary page. That would show people the size of your plant that is available. (Or does it work that way?)

Thanks!! I really like the fact that we can now easily link to PF, but I guess I wanted to have my cake and eat it too... it'll be great to be able to post photos if needed with the trade entries.

I don't quite understand how it works. I deleted the ones that I had and then when I went to add them again, I did not see any browse box so I could add the photo. Does that come after I have finished everything else?

This feature is now available! You can add a picture by going into your tradelist and you'll find the link for "Picture" under the "Edit | Delete" buttons.

If you upload a picture, then the system will use your picture and will indicate to everyone that it has done so. Also, the thumbnail will be a link to the fullsize version.

If there is no personal photo, it will grab one out of PF, using one of your PF photos if available, otherwise it just takes the first one.

I think this is an excellent enhancement to the tradelists and I'm glad that it was requested and "seconded" by so many people!

On a related note, I added a trade to my trade tracker today... and I love the new system for adding pulling up possible DG name matches as you type... it really helps when I don't quite remember what number somebody is using after their name, saves me some jumping back & forth between pages. And pulling up their name & address automatically is just fabulous also... saves me more back & forth to the address exchange!

Yes we do. I was able to add my first have on the trade list and put my photo with it. I think that is really cool. And this weekend I hope to add many more to my have list.
