Knowing us plant freaks, the door could be wide open and loads of cash in plain sight, and we would be in his garden seeing what plants to steal!!
February's Coffee Refill
Where is everyone lately? I'm getting lonely...
Hi, Harper. it has been pretty quiet. maybe everybody's just waiting out the rest of the winter. I've been over in Orchids, where things actually bloom in the winter, Wintersowing, where there are things to do in the winter, and Roses, where everybody is a little nuts all year round.
Lol about the roses forum... like we're not nuts here! I'm going nuts waiting for spring. *sigh...*
Hi Harper, lulls come and go - we're still here.
I'm lurking about, from time to time. Kids keeping me tied up.
Victor
Victor,
That's interesting--I don't think I ever saw an albino snake.
Gram,
I love your description of the rose forum--they are a funny group.
Hi, Harper,
I've been thinking alot lately about how much I have to do when spring finally gets here. I'm planning to fence in an area of my back yard with deer fencing, and then moving as many of my plants as I can fit inside that space. It won't be a very attractive fence, but I think it's the only way that I'll be able to really have a flower garden. I also need to get started on hedges for both sides. I'm going to be doing alot of digging as soon as the weather warms up enough.
Loretta
We went to NYC for a couple days. Just got back.
Had a great time. (Didn't tell you I was going because I didn't you lock bumbing your way into my house!)
I would just bump the door down Dave.
Hey! I've got Big Apple street creds now.
yo yo G
oh Victor, my son got a kick out of your snake pic
I've been doing quick lurks - new job is great, but busy. I'm tired when I get home. Once I catch up it won't be so bad. Cool snake Victor - see everyone, I appreciate them as long as they aren't in my basement!

Anita, I just had it installed!
Figures...
Well we had red skies at dawn. I'm hearing the word accumulation, but I think it will be only about an inch, thank goodness.
Hi all,
The snake was cool, though my son was a chicken and wouldn't touch it! Dave, what did you do in the city? I grew up in Astoria, Queens. I'm in Stony Pt. for 11 years. On the lock bumping business, I realized that since they have to grind the key first, the 'procedure' should be re-named the Bump and Grind!
Or the Grind & Bump! I like that!
Whole family went in to NYC. We saw a musical (Beauty and the Beast),went to the Empire State Building and a lot of window shopping. We had fun! The kids will remember the trip long after they forget how sore their feet were.
Sounds great. My wife and I are going to see Pirate Queen in April.
I haven't been to Broadway for a couple of years (Phantom of the Opera) There is so much I would like to see.
Dave, your trip sounds like a blast. The weather was nice yesterday, too.
Victor, I just heard that they found an albino python loose in the streets of Albany.
Loretta, I'll bet you could cover up your fence with growing things nicely.
Dave,
I still remember when my father brought me to the top of the Empire State Building, and it was a long time ago. It's a nice thing to do.
Victor,
My DH is from Queens. He lived in Astoria for awhile when he was growing up.
Harper,
Yes, I'm hoping that my fenced garden will look better than scattered plant nubs.
My Father grew up in Astoria and I spent alot of my summers there with my grandmother and aunt. My Aunt still lives there on 29th Street.
I enjoy broadway and have seen The Producers, Phantom of the Opera [3 times], Wicked [which is competing with Phantom as my personal favorite], Miss Saigon, The Lion King, Rent and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner [Theatre in the round with Nathan Lane].
Reading these posts really makes me want to get away for a few days - gee thanks guys. Too much to do around here though.
I came home today just before lunch because I wasn't feeling well at work. I think I have come down with that nasty cold bug going around. My youngest has had it now for almost 2 weeks and my mom came down with it a few days ago and she sounds horrible. God help me! Ugh!
Gee, I hope you are feeling better soon, DawnLL
Hey, Dave, I bet we were in NYC at the same time. Really makes you think (about...?). Seriously, though, we dropped off the girls (13 and 16) at The Lion King* and then had dinner in a trendy NYC bistro, Applebees! We figured, and correctly, that only foreigners would go to Applebees in NYC when they have the entire rest of the city to go to. We found a great Best Western that's two hours from Manhattan and two hours from home, and reasonably priced, too. We saw Wicked last year at this time, but flew down instead of driving. I fell asleep before intermission and slept straight through. What a waste!
*We were instructing them not to go with anyone else no matter what they said, to wait RIGHT THERE until DH came to pick them up, "don't let anyone else pick you up except me"! "Not even me?" said a nearby ticket-taker, according to our girls. I guess 13 doesn't look as young as it used to...
xxx, Carrie
A python in Albany, Harper? Wow, I guess Spitzer really does want to clean house! Anita, 29th street and where? I lived on 27th street between 21st Avenue and Ditmars Blvd. What time frame did you spend your Summers there? Loretta, where in Astoria was DH from?
Dawn, feel better. I am suffering through a nasty cold myself. The 7 year old boy next door has been sick for two weeks. I assume it's the flu.
Carrie, in my opinion, one can't be paranoid enough when it comes to kids. And yes, today's girls look (and usually dress) older than they used to.
Pirate Queen will be our first Broadway show in a few years. We have been to the Opera twice in the last year though. Was more entertaining that I expected. I was anticipating zzzzzzzzzzz.
Ok guys, don't laugh...but I've never been to Broadway play. Heck I hardly ever go to the movies and at home I have a hard time to sit thru an entire movie. It has to be REALLY good and catch my attention from the begining. Most of the time I plan it and wash 4-5 loads of laundry and then sit and fold clothes while I watch the movie. I am trying to slow down and enjoy things, im just not slow enough to sit through movies yet, or Broadway for that matter.
Wow, I once saw a movie about someone like that...
lol victor, did it have a happy ending?
edited to say: I do stop and smell the roses. (wink)

I sure hope the ending was happy. Pixie I think you need to stop and smell MORE roses LOL LOL
That's how the movie ended. She stopped to smell the roses, accidently inhaled a Japanese Beetle, was rushed to the ER... The sequel is in the works.
OMG You KILL ME!!! LOL LOL LOL
Can't wait for the sequel.... LOL
Poor pixie :(
The 3D sequel starts with a sneeze...
OMG....LOL I think I feel a sneeze coming on. Even in the movie's those Japanese Beetles haunt me!!!!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhh run for your life hehehehee! Achooooo!
The only Japanese Beatle that ever scared me was Yoko Ono. She still does.
:>) She is scary!
Victor,
I agree completely. My DH won't drive anyone anywhere without one of our kids along! I used to think he was paranoid, but now I see what he means.
Yoko doesn't scare me too much; John was with her when he did the Imagine album, so she can't be all bad.
xxxxx, Carrie
Yeah but why did he have to spend so much time imagining???
