New Posts

I have been experiencing this for some time and finally decided to ask about it. On the Home page it will list which of your watched threads have new posts above where it lists which of your favorite forums have new posts. When I click on my watched threads and come back to home I have noticed that it still lists the forum as having a new post. I especially see this in ORVG. The new post listed is the one in th thread I just read so I know it isn't a new one. Just curious as to why this is happening and if it can be fixed. If I go to the forum through the favorite forum link it changes to no new messages.. Als o I return to home with the home tab or the home link at the bottom of the page not by using my back button.. ok that's it.. anyone else experiencing this?

If you hit shift-Refresh on your computer it'll reload the page from the server. Sometimes when you go back to a page that you've been on recently, the computer shows you the old version of the page, but shift-refresh will force it to load the current one.

Thanks ecrane. I wouldn't have posted about it except that it didn't use to do that and now it is. or has been for the last couple of months. The thing is I don't feel it's just a refresh issue since I can log off of DG and come back the next day and it will still show that there is a new post on ORVG but it's the post I have already read (did that make sense?)

ok.. that was weird.. just now I had a post that I accessed in the ORVG thread that i was watching and when I came back to the home page it had changed to no new messages in the fav forums.. weird weird weird

ok I was wrong.. I forgot I went and looked at another post in ORVG.. duh..

Sometimes the latest version will load automatically and sometimes it doesn't, I'm not sure how to predict when it will and when it won't. But next time it happens, try the shift-refresh and see if that fixes it.

I did try it and it didn't

Are you using internet explorer on a PC? If it's a different browser or it's a Mac then the command may be different. I've never heard of that trick not working for someone, that's why I'm wondering if you're not on a different computer or browser

nope.. it happens on both AOL and on Mozilla. I don't think it's a refresh issue. I thought i would try your solution though because hey.. who knows..
THe reason I didn't and don't think it's a refresh issue is that it only happens when I go to a forum through the Watched Threads. If I only read the watched thread and then return to home (Using the "Home" tab or link) then the forum is still listed as having new posts. If I read any other thread while in the forum prior to returning to the home page the forum is listed as having no new threads.

Hi, Jazz
I am having posting problem! Last night and this morning. Some will not even open at times. A short post will work but nothing very long.

I am having the same experience as Jazz and was just about to post. I used to hit refresh on the home page every time I came back from reading a watched thread. Then the past couple of days I didn't have to do that. I would come back and the watched thread list would be missing the one I just read so no need. Now today I am back to refreshing. I liked it better the other way.

I didn't know if this question was for the computer forum or here?

Dave?

No it was for here because I think it's DG issue not a computer issue

Jazzpunkin--I think I know what is happening now when you go to your watched threads. I think the system waits for you to visit the main page for a given forum before it registers that you've been to that forum, so if you jump directly to your watched thread and then go back to the main DG home page and never go to the forum's main page, then the system doesn't think you've been to that forum. So that's why it can still show that the forum has new messages. Hope that makes sense!

bluekat--what's happening to you is exactly what I thought was happening to Jazz at first. You should try the shift-refresh trick, if you have read your watched thread and go back to the main page and it still shows up as unread then it's because the home page hasn't reloaded from the server. There might be something you can change in your browser settings to force it to load the page from the server each time you go to it, but I'm not sure how to do that.

How do I go back to not having to hit refresh? I always read the watched thread and then hit home but the thread still shows now. I would like to know how to load the home page from browser 'home'.

Tried something. I usually hit 'home' on my browser not the DG link. When I hit the DG link at the end of a thread I came back to my home page and the thread was gone! yea! It does take my puter longer to load the home page when I do it that way though.

Thanks ecrane for the ideas!

Glad that worked! The reason it takes longer to load is because it's really loading the page...before when you just hit the home button and it loaded it quickly, it was loading an old version that was already saved on your computer so it goes much more quickly, actually loading it from the server is going to take longer. But then the page has the latest info, so I guess it's worth it!

Ecrane, That could well be what's happening.. I was thinking that the only forum it happened with was ORVG. I will watch more closely..lol..I have several threads I am watching where I don't go to their forum. I think I am only watching tow threads that are connected to forums I have marked as favorite.. I will pay attention this week to see if it happens with both..
