Thanks Resin! Its so great to have you here to ask!

Wonderful tree creeper photo. Another one I haven't seen before. Are they a "woodsy" bird?

Lily: Those little guys are hardier than I'd be out in that snow! Great shots.

This little wren was scolding the gigantic Chinese geese who came strolling up in formation. The mockingbird jumped down and tried to strike a dominant posture, but - oddly - the geese ignored him.

Great pics!

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

Awww, Deb I just love your wrens! Yesterday there was one hoping around on the windowsill and peeking in. Of course I had the telephoto lens on the camera and missed a great shot. grrr.

They've been fighting the snow here for several days, but today its 47 degrees........maybe spring is close!

We're supposed to get into the 40's this week. Thank Goodness!!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

We're warming, slowly moving towards spring. It's a wet, dismay and grey day. I'm spending the day going through and editing my photos. Ran across these taken mid-Nov., and thought you like to see them.

This solitary lil' goldfinch was sick or near starved when he arrived, and paid me little mind.

I've tried four times to open the image, but every time I click preview, the image file disappears. Trying one more time.
Didn't work. Problems at DG?
Will try later. Sorry, 'cause pix are cute!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Great photos - I know everyone is tired of the snow, but you sure do get some incredible pictures!

I was out and about today and took this photo . . . I think the Bufflehead was a bit confused - he's right in line with the Surfscoters!!!

Oh how adorable tigerlily!! You get the award for puffiest bird so far! I am so glad you were successful finally in posting these.

Great pictures Jazzpunkin!! Please post more often!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I agree about that being the puffiest little bird. I laughed when I open the picture. It is funny how different they can look.

Jazz, I am enjoying your pics. I still get my woodpeckers mixed up. I really enjoy watching them. Can anyone tell me where they purchased their woodpecker feeder with a tail prop? I found this place but haven't ordered yet. I was hoping to find something local and save on shipping charges.

Really nice pics Jazz! Please keep posting your pics!
What camera are you using?

Tiger that Goldfinch is adorable!!!

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Hey Teresa, Thanks :) It has been so long since I have had my bird book out. I really need to fill my feeder and enjoy the birds again.
Thank you Lilyfantn, you may be sorry you said that! lol
Pelletory, Thank you! my camera is a Panasonic DMC - FZ20. I just got it in December and don't really know how to use it fully but it already is giving me better results than my previous digital.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Ahhhhhhhh . . . pictures to make me smile!!! Thanks, everyone.

Bluegrassmom, I found my first woodpecker feeder with a tail prop at Wild Birds Unlimited, but I have since seen them at Ace Hardware and Fred Meyer. I'll bet if you have a Wal-mart near you that you might even find one there.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I have been checking at Wally World, Lowes, and H. Depot and Tractor Supply. I can try at Ace.
Thanks.

Not the usual visitors at the feeders this morning.

This wren was on the feeder above the geese in my previous photo, and he was tossing bits of apple down to them.

Deb.....I recognize the White Chinese. We use to hatch and sell about 5000 of them per year and send to the Southern states to 'weed' strawberry fields. Are the others Emdens?

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Moonlighter: I was told they were both types of Chinese, but I'll have to look up Emdens and see. They just "appeared" at our pond down the street last year and have increased in number slightly. No one knows where they came from. But this winter, they've expanded their foraging area to include our feeders!
Deb

Maysville, MO(Zone 5a)

After I posted, I realized Emdens are white, so they're probably Brown Chinese as I see they too, have knobs. We get a lot of Canadian geese here on our ponds. In the early spring, we have the same pair come to nest on the Island on our larger pond. I know it's the same pair that have nested there for the last 9 years because the male has a fishing line injury on one of his legs and he walks with a limp. It's fun to watch their young ones after they have matured enough to be ready to fly. It takes a lot of practice take offs and a lot of touch and go's before they master it. One year they actually left one of their young here because he never could get off the ground (water). After about a week, he finally got it down pat!

If you want to keep the geese away from your feeders, or want them there, use oats to 'locate' them. They love oats.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the tip. I don't mind them coming around, but it'd be nice if they'd stay a bit further away from the feeders. The "regular" birds get very agitated when the geese come marching up! So distracting them with oats - strategically placed -might do the trick!

Lol, looks like he's sitting on top of a feathery ball. Thanks Gras!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

That is just what I thought when I looked at it Pelletory! I don't think he can see his feet! LOL! Cute Grasmussen!
Nice of the wren to share breakfast with the geese!

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

I have been practicing shooting black Ravens against white snow. It is quite difficult to get an exposure, where the Raven doesn't look like a black silhouette against a snow bank. This is my best shot so far.

Debin, wonderful photos!!

And, Gras, that's the best picture I've seen of a dark colored bird - great job!!

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

What a cute wren photo debin! It looks like he is sitting in a little swing.

What Gras, what a beautiful raven photo - it reminds me of patent leather.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Gras: Ya did good! :)
