In my quest to help a fellow DG-er, I tried contacting
a glass recycling center in or near Jackson, Mississippi.
(Can't help but to spell it out loud as I type. M I S S I S S I P P I.)
LOL
Anyhow. I spoke with several people who said there is no
such center in or around the area where one may
drop recyclables. One lady I spoke to, while very nice and helpful,
said she had never heard of recycling glass. I choked on my
chips. Huh?
Maybe I've been hugging the trees a bit too tight, but I'm baffled
as to how one would not even know about recycling glass.
So. I was hoping someone in the approximate area might be able
to assist. Even if it is 30 miles from Jackson, that would be fine.
From what I gather, a group of overpaid officials have gathered a
few times to rack up a good sized lunch bill, toss the idea around and
then put it back in the closet. When someone in the house gets bored,
the idea is tossed around, then sent for more red tape. Then more
red tape. In the meantime, my gosh, imagine all the glass in the dump.
Whew!
Still seeking a recycling center,
KM
Never heard of recycling glass?

Googled Mississippi, went to Govt. website then recycling directory. Hope that helps.
Hi Balv,
I honestly appreciate your help.
Unfortunately, I've called many of the centers you listed,
and all of them keep referring me elsewhere.
This is puzzling. Even the Jackson solid waste people told
me "We don't do that." when I asked about glass recycling.
No one seems to know. I'm stumped.
Looks like the cost of dumpster and transport killed the local glass recycling in the Jackson area:

Perhaps someone at these sites can help?:

I'm not sure that I understand exactly what it is that you are looking for. If it is a location for recycling glass,we have several in Tulsa operated by the Metropolitan Environmental Trust.

That is where I get my blue bottles!!!
Rocco - I believe Wuvie was looking for same in M i ss i pp i. LOL
