How lucky you are in deed Mahnot to have had such a man in your life.....and LOL on the flyer ( not a bad idea either).
Happy Birthday Herbie's DW!.....nice story about how you guys knew each other from childhood . No big mysteries there....you knew him well before you all took the plunge.Smart lady!
While you were sleeping....
I enjoy a cup of coffee during the day and evening. It is always nice to have one brought to you, isn't it.
Things just taste better when someone else cooks for a change also.
I like a cold bed. LOL But if I did like a warm one, the cats always make sure I get it whether I want it or not.
My husband and I rarely have to ask the other one what they want anymore. We just read each others minds. It is amazing how many times I want something and before I get up to get it, my husband brings it to me.
I didn't know my husband when we were kids, but I found out later that we did have mutual friends as children.
Oh Mahnot, you just made me cry! I would love to have known your husband. Wow.
Ceejay - I think yours is pretty awesome too. The sleep stories are hilarious.
Mine's a keeper - he's pretty wonderrful. But we're on WAAAYYY different sleep schedules these days. Well, really we always have been. I'm a night owl and he falls asleep reading the paper when he gets home. I was informed this evening that I must change my ways and at least go to bed with him every other night. Once he's asleep, I'm free to go read or crochet or talk to you guys. But until then, he wants some snuggling. Awwww......he's worth it.
But I'm a talker and a walker once I do get to sleep. My daughter climbs in bed with me every morning and she tells me that I say some pretty crazy stuff. Hubby tries to hold conversations with me. Once, when I woke in the morning and went into the kitchen there was a frying pan, eggs and butter in the middle of the floor. Guess I wanted to cook something or I was hungry.
I do some irrational stuff when I'm woken suddenly. About a year ago I heard the neighbors dogs behind me barking violently and heard loud cracks! I looked out the window and realized he was beating those dogs with a belt. I went running out in my nightgown, jumped on the fence and yelled, "You better not be beating those dogs. I'll get my husband up!!!!" He ran inside. Thinking back on it, I should have called the police. That was pretty stupid of me.
Mahnot - Oh how sweet!! I can hear that you loved your husband very much!! I think your "add" in the church newsletter is cute too!! Thanks for sharing!
Everyone's stories are GREAT! Ceejay - You done great starting this topic :-)
I've just gotten married for the 2nd time. I can't believe how different it feels this time! I'm 20 years older than the first time I got married, so that probably helps,,, but,,, I just feel such a true connection and love for my husband! And yes, he's kind and sweet and will do anything for me. I'm getting SO spoiled!!!!!!
LAKelley2, you're NOT getting spoiled. Spoiled is rotted and putrid
and of no further use. You're getting pampered, which is probably
what you deserve. Every good wish for your future happiness. :o)
Once, I sat up, with my eyes open, but was still obviously asleep. I bet that was scarey! I don't remember a thing.
I'll bet you looked spooky.
{{{Mahnot}}} hugs to you!! You're good people... I can tell!!!!!
You know, you're all good people here or else Dave
would yank your memberships. I'm just a cranky old
lady. Just ask Ceejay. She'll tell ya.
Ceejay...what have I told you about calling Mahnot a cranky old lady? Shame, shame, shame.
C'mon, now. Mahnot is my hero!
heeheehee
Gee, I had the weirdest dream last night that the
dentist was sawing on my teeth, sort of like being here. :o)
Dreams, now that is a whole new kettle of fish.
Mahnot has a hard time accepting compliments, but then she just keeps on being such a super person, both in word and deed! It's her fault that she is admired so much.
That does it. I'm leaving.
Ceejay...you have to start being cranky!
Mahnot, she'll turn a new leaf. Baby steps.
OK. Let's change the subject, before I get in more trouble. (You sweet thing, Mahnot....). Back to while I was sleeping, and that could include dreams - a whole new kettle of fish, as Windy said.
Have any of you ever had those dreams where you are in your bed, and think you are wide awake, and things are happening? And they are sooooo real!? I have, and I wonder what causes them. I tend to not be able to remember dreams - only those horrible ones where I am awake. I had this one not too long ago - Someone was in the room, and I sat up to see who it was. The figure at the end of the bed raised a gun, and shot me three times. I wondered why and then I realized that I was dying, and nothing could be done about it. Then I woke up. It was so real that I checked the bed and pillow for blood, when I couldn't find any bullet holes. Of course, DH was sleeping soundly next to me.....even gun shots don't wake him up!! LOL!!!!
I dream very vividly and they start as soon as I fall asleep. If Charles wakes me up a couple of minutes - or even seconds - after I fall asleep and asks me what I was dreaming about I can tell him. Usually they are very goofy - weird mixtures of all of the places that I have worked and lived and people I have known. Sometimes they are about someone else entirely. And sometimes they are terrible and scary and I know I am dreaming, but I can't wake up. I hate those! I have to be very careful about what I watch and read because anything dark or scary at all stays with me for a long long time.
On the bright side, I can fall asleep very easily after being woken up, which was handy on those nights when the babies were especially hungry - every 45 minutes, all night long! Charles isn't grumpy or insane (LOL!) when he is woken up, but he has a very hard time falling asleep again.
LOL Ceejay...you gotta do somethin about that Hubby of yours!
I have vivid dreams from time to time too, but haven't had a bad one for a while.
I had 2 of them over and over as a child. One was that I had drown in the community pool, but didn't know it until I saw my body. Then the bottom of the pool opened up and I got sucked into this underground world where me and some other folks were about 3 inches tall and being held captive in a bird cage by an ugly old Witch....
The other had to do with scary wolves dressed as guards in front of 2 huge doors, they would open them for me but there was nothing but black empty space behind them........ I would always run away. Always wondered why I had the exact ones over and over.
The worst were the ones I had as a teen.... dreams within dreams...you know your having a bad dream and you "wake up" then something else bad happens and you "wake up" again and so forth for about 10 times and then you really do wake up...I'd pinch myself hard to be sure it was all over...LOL!
I have lucid dreams where I feel, smell, taste and use all of my senses while dreaming. I lead a very active life at night. LOL
Sometimes I will be at a buffet with people who I don't remember seeing in real waking life (Who are these people) There is always good food and we are celebrating something.
Sometimes I will eat something in a dream and wake up nauseas. Can a person get Salmonella from under-cooked dream food. LOL
What I do not like about the lucid dreams is that I can feel pain when I am cut or shot or otherwise hurt while dreaming. I would just like to have a freebie dream where I can do anything extraordinary and not have to pay the consequences of feeling it.
Just don't eat any Peter Pan or Great Value PNB in your dreams and you may not get salmonella.
I have dreams at times that someone has sit on the edge of the bed or laid down beside me. I can feel the bed shift. One night, not too long ago, I was asleep on my side and dreamed that someone put their hand on my right hip. I could actually feel it. I flung my right hand back and the feeling left.
About 8 yrs. ago our grandson was spending several wks. with us in the summer. He was sleeping in our guest room which is at the other end of the house from our bedroom. We woke up to hear him screaming. We ran to the bedroom and found him sitting up in bed, scared as could be. He said that something had laid down on the bed beside him and put its arm across him. He would not sleep in that bedroom the rest of the time he was with us. We had to fix him a pallet on the floor beside our bed so he could sleep at night and only then with a nightlight on. Last summer (he was 18), his mother was visiting with us from NC and he came up from AL. She slept in the guest bedroom and he was sleeping on a cot in my hus. office. He finally moved the cot into the bedroom with his mother and slept there the 3 nights they were with us. To make matters even worse, this Jan. he was staying overnight at his uncle's house so they could go hunting early in the morning. He got up about 4 AM, called his uncle and when he heard nothing from him, he went into his bedroom to get him up and found his uncle dead. He had been dead for several hrs. from a massive heartattack. Now my grandson will not even go near the house. His house is right across the pond and he has buddies staying with him now. He has bad nightmares now. I told him to call watchers to watch over him and his guardian angel to keep him safe. LIZ
It would be awful to find a loved one dead, wouldn't it. So sad. I know I freak out just finding one of my pet birds dead in a cage. If it were a human being it would really be devastating and hard to get over.
Well, that would just scare the living daylights out of me!! I really feel for your grandson. When I have these wide awake nightmares, I'm afraid to fall asleep again. Just think what it must be like for him....
My SIL was only 10 when she came home from school and found her Dad dead on the floor from a heart attack. She thought he was teasing her and kept trying to rouse him. I really felt so sorry for her as she was really close to him. Just can't even imagine what it would be like.
I tend to wake up every few months and find myself standing at the bus stop at 2am.
Was that your usual time to go to work? Or are you sleepwalking?
My usual time is 6:30am. I just get very, very disconcerted, and do whatever it is that I know I'm supposed to do when I wake up. Usually. after about 15 minutes, I'll finally snap awake and realize that I should have just rolled over and gone back to bed.
See, my biggest problem is just that I don't have an alarm clock ;)
That's scary! You actually wake up at the bus stop in the middle of the night? Wow...you have to wonder what happens to the conscience at night that would allow you actually get there in complete sleep. Do you remember getting there at all? That would scare the daylights out of me.
Mac, you need to wedge your doors at bedtime with
something that will give off a siren of some type.
Well, I was asleep and glad to be awake now. Don't know where this dream came from but wanted to get out of it ASAP.
A man and a woman came into my house and wandered through, in my dream. I was asleep and woke up and found them there. Told them they should leave. She did but he decided to take his time after touching me impolitely. I suggested that he not do that, it was improper and I went to slug him and found I had no power at all. It was the biggest sissy slug anyone had ever delivered. Somehow I managed to get him to the door and tried pushing him out and down the steps. Couldn't quite manage it, no matter how hard I tried and finally saw he had a knife.
At that time I woke up and remembered I had a pump shotgun and why didn't I think of using it? I felt so weak and helpless and stupid.
This one probably has some good interpretations that I neither want to face or even hear about. But need to stay awake for a little bit so I don't go back to sleep and pick up where I left off.
Molly
Molly, that's a scary dream. It's so frequent to dream of being helpless. Sometimes I will wake up from a nightmare and I'm trying o scream but nothing will come out.
I have found that, for me personally, sleep position seems to play a big role in my sleep. Every single time I am having a nightmare, I wake up sleeping on my back. I think there's something physiological about it. Perhaps it interrupts my breathing pattern? heart rate? Who knows? Have you ever paid attention to how you are positioned when you wake? I think it's a combination of what's happening in your daily life and how you are sleeping. I may be wrong, it's just what seems to go on with me.
On a lighter note, and I have to say this first, I do not spank children, I've dreamed that my daughter has acted out horribly and was in need of a spanking. So, when I went to spank, my arm turns in to a rubber band. I can't do it no matter how hard I try. The arm is just a wobbly piece of rubber. Perhaps it is because she knows I dont have it in me to spank her. The one time, when she was three or four (she's almost 12 now), that I was really, really close to giving her one, I had put her in time out in her bed and told her that if she got out of the bed she was going to get a spanking. She kept inching closer and closer to the edge and I warned her that I was serious. Right before her feet almost touched the ground, I said okay, you're getting spanked. Well, she flipped on the bed, arched her back, reached behind her and whacked herself on the hiny and said, "I'll spank my own butt". What was I to do? I pig snorted and laughed my butt off. How can you be mad after that? But afterwards....the dream. It's all in a days work sometimes.
knolan,
You are right about the screaming, it just seems to come out in a croak. And anyone who knows me, knows I can send my voice a mile down the road and back.
I was sitting here playing solitaire and realized the garlic auroa about me. I put two large cloves of garlic in that pasta dish this evening. It's been so long since I had that much fresh garlic, that I forgot about the nightmares garlic gives me.
So I can avoid any long term head shrinking about fear of this and that and taking risks etc. I'll just cut back on the garlic next time and all will be well with the world.
:^))))
So, garlic might prevent you from sleeping? That's probably true within your body. That's funny because Mahnot and I have been discussing pickles. My mom used to tell me that if I ate pickles before I went to bed I would have nightmares. My grandma told her that and so on. I'm a pickle eater. As a matter of fact, I just ate two. I'll report in the morning if I had a bad dream or not.
Seriously, if you wake up in the middle of the night, do pay attention to your body position. Are you curled up on the left side or the right side in a fetal position? Are you laying flat on your back? Are you laying on your stomache? Have you moved from one side of the bed to the other? For me, nightmares and recurring dreams always, always happen when I'm sleeping on my back, almost flat. I think oxygen is not being processed through my body the right way. I'm either not elevated enough, there is a restriction interrupting my air flow from my nasal passages (think snoring) into my lungs. If you are on your back with your head elevated by one pillow, there is not a free flow of oxygen to get to the rest of your organs. The oxygen flow is almost stunted. I think it can cause a bad night and bad dreams. I'm no expert.....just someone who pays attention to what happens to me.
Unfortunately, I can't remember what sleep position I was in for that nightmare, but I will try to pay closer attention next time.
BTW did you know there is a lot of garlic in dill pickles? I would get the worst kind of heartburn if I ate ANY pickles before bedtime.
Going to try to get back to sleep now. No aspirin in the house for this headache if I wake up with it in the morn. Now if that awful wind would just subside........
g'nite
I make my own pickles now. There are no witch doctors out there making them and putting ingredients in them that are detrimental to my health. And I put ALOT of garlic in them. I take Prilosec for heartburn every day. It works wonders with no side effects for me.
I hope you are able to sleep well. I know the frustration of insomnia and it's not fun. Your weather has been horrible today.....enough to scare the daylights out of anyone. Prayers are with you!
I'm way past my bedtime. The alarm will come early.
Molly - Hope you got back to sleep ok! I had a bad nightmare last Saturday night. I had gotten up about 3 a.m. because my back was killing me and I went to sleep in the recliner. I dreamed that my dad got crushed between two sections of a train and I was yelling "call 911" repeatedly and running toward him (how weird was THAT nightmare!). Of course, I was running in slow motion... was like trying to run under water. It's ALWAYS like that in a nightmare,,, but in a dream I can fly really fast ROFL! I didn't go back to sleep after that... too scary!
Yep Linda, those nightmares are the slo-mo ones and the dreams, I have had those dreams, take a leap and you're flying, through the whole dream. You know you are dreaming, but you also know when you wake up, you'll be able to fly too.
I did get back to sleep and just woke up a few minutes ago. Had a kitchen of dirty dishes to wash. When I have company, I don't like to work in the kitchen, past the cooking part anyway. Linda, you ARE going to Sendonetome's roundup aren't you?
knolan,
For a long time I have not had the heartburn problem so never got into more than the store brand of Mylanta. I try to stay away from the foods that cause it and most certainly try not to eat before bedtime. Hey, I also learned that it's the peelings in the cukes that contain most of the burps.
Still windy outside. Will wait til daylight to assess greenhouse plastic damage. Then get to work repairing it. We are forecast to have another freeze Sunday night.
Molly
Molly - Not sure about the roundup... what date is it again?
Fran's, over by you is April 7th, a Saturday. Sure hope you can make it. Can't get any closer.....except for your own back yard of course.
:^))))
