I had a very large jade plant on my enclosed porch. The plant was on the northern side of the porch. I put a small electic heater out there hoping it would be warm enough but with the terrible cold we are having now it must not have been. The whole top part of the plant turned soft and wilted. I cut off all of this part and some of it looks still alive. Can I root this part and how should I go about this? Appreciate any help.
Thanks...Peg
Jade Plant
I expect if it is wilty and mushy, that it has bitten the dust. Throw it on the compost pile!
We had a Jade plant when we lived in the Sierras. We'd put it out on the deck in the summer, and take in inside near a window in the winter. If you think part of the plant is still living, bring in inside the house near a window and see if it puts out new growth. You can always toss it on the compost pile later if it doesn't regrow.
Thank you both for the imput. Parts are muchy and I cut them off. In fact I cut way down to the big parts. Put the unmushy branches on table on porch and put the bog plant in the warmest section of porch. Do you think some of the branches will be O.K. to root? I'll try to get some pictures to put on later. Thanks....Peg
Peg, you may want to visit the cactus and succulents forum. Lots of helpful folks over there that could help with your jade plant.
I do feel your pain, though. I purchased my first jade this past autumn so it has been inside since I bought it home. I overwatered it once and once branch rotted and fell off. Now I have it in a southwest window - masterbath. The steam from the shower every morning gives it a good dose of humidity and I lightly water even now and then. So far, so good.
A jade is a plant that requires a great deal of patience since it is sooooo slow growing. I read that it takes up to 20 years to get full grown.- whew!
good luck
Liz
Whenever I pinch the top out of mine so it will branch, I put that little pinched off part in some dirt, and they grow roots very readily. And I expect the one you doctored will be just fine, and you'll have new growth very soon. good luck!
The leaves root very easily. The end where it was attached should callus over before planting.
Hemental, you raised your hand, and I checked you out on Mapquest. I hope you'll plan to come to the Mid-South Round Up in Tupelo on May 5. We surely would love it if you would.
I have all the branches that seem O.K. set out to callus over. I guess I'll wait about a week to plant and hope for the best. The original plant I hope will make it but it sure looks kind of sad. I'm trying to figure out how to put pictures on.....Peg
