PEEPS...gotta love 'em!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

LOL Jasper, Peeps are recyclable!

Of course, with all the preservatives in them,
I'm sure those of us who eat them will
be recycled one day, too. :-)

Ugh, I hate peeps! I dont like em cause theyre to marshmellowy. Even regular marshmellows I cant eat (gotta have em roasted, in s'mores or in rice crispy treats). And I could never eat em stale *shudders*

I -love- Cadbury Eggs! Last easter I bought em all teh time, and my (then) bf kept telling me I was gonna make myself sick eating em. I didnt :P Easter is near again! Im gonna stock up on Cadbury's :D

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Alright, this discussion of Cadbury Eggs leads me to confess.

Do not read further if you are eating or are easily queasy.

I have never a Cadbury Egg.

Not one. Not a bite. I don't know if I could even tell you what one
looked like. Honestly.

When I was a child, apparently we did not get a lot of sweets, so
on one occasion when I had the chance to eat all the candy eggs I wanted, I did.
I distinctly remember eating bean soup afterwards. Needless to
say, the marshmallow eggs and beans did not make for a pretty
sight splattered on the wooden floor. Ugh!

I suppose that is why I've never eaten one. I have issues with
candy shaped like eggs. Ha ha!

Wuvie - I just stumbled upon this thread. I have some precious 'eggs' in my yard that I'll be happy to send to you for further study.

They are the happy, 'stinky squid stinkhorn' fungus....better known as ‘Clathrus columnatus’. I've enjoyed them so very, very much!

Scroll down to the last picture.....those are my spring babies!

I was recently on a trip to Florida, where 80% of the American retired population has gone to live (not really!). A project for my grandchildren made it necessary to run into a Joanne's store. As I was waiting in line at the checkout, the elderly couple in front of me could not wait any longer and they opened their box of PEEPS. The even more elderly gentleman in front of them asked for one and then they started offering them to the rest of us in line. I was laughing at their antics, but even more I was laughing because of all of you on this thread. I know they thought I was losing it!!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

That's cute! Wish I was in line with ya'll.

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Yeah, I was wishing for someone to share the moment.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

It's one of those "pass 'er down" moments" when everyone is feeling good and sharing with everyone else. Those times are memorable for sure!

100 yellow peeps on the wall

OMG PEEPS...i love peeps...i would over dose on PEEPS; i love them stale also; i love easter candy but i should apply it all to my a*s as that is where it goes when i eat it....it has been 2 years and i have been sugar free....only out of necessity...i was eating sugar all day everday...nothing nutritrious just cakes, candies , cokes...; BUT back to PEEPS...when i went to buy some (when i ate them) i would try to find the hardest package i could cause they were the most stale; once i bought out an eckerds peeps when they marked them 75 % off.....; i only liked the yellow or pink kind...and they seemed to have more sugar on the chickens....you had to bite the bottom off of the chicken first as that is where you got your first big hit of sugar....then you at the rest.....can't tell i am an addict can you??? i also love thos chocolate marshmallow eggs...with the dark chocolate on them....WUVIE WUVIE WUVIE....i cant believe you started this thread....got my mouth salivating but i will stay away from them....my health depended on it.....enjoy them for me!!!!!

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

i am so jealous....i would love to eat them...but they go straight to my butt!!!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

If you poke them with a fork, it releases half the calories.

;-)

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Is that like broken cookies have no calories because they all fell out?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Oh, yes! Much as doughnut holes have no fat, either.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Just saw in my Diabetic Living magazine that they have Splenda Peeps! Didn't see them on the shelf here during the holidays hummm might have to order direct...wonder if I can do that?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Splenda Peeps. LOL. Too funny!

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

OMG i can't believe....i don't wanna know....but i LOVE THEM...but i haven't had sugar since june of 2005....OMG; i would love to have them...i am wondering if the texture is still the same...you gotta have the gritty texture...then you gotta have the same taste....and then the staleness.....wonder if they get stale like the others..; okay where do i view them...or do i need to keep away?? OMG i have lost 100 lbs staying away from sugar and look at what a nutcase i am....eeeeeeeeee

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Hey, sticks!! Great job!! Skip the peeps, for goodness sakes.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Sticks, indeed. Keep up the good work.

Just look at the Peeps, but don't touch.

Okay, touch, but don't lick. And especially don't bite.

If you bite, don't chew.
If you chew, don't swallow.
If you swallow, we're back to the drawing board.

:-)

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

oh god too funny i did a google on splenda peeps...and one of the first hits is:

do splenda peeps age well?

here is the link: http://www.chow.com/grinder/2342

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

That's too funny.

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

no congrats needed...; i was on big ole doses of steriods....with lupus and just ate way too much...but am truly a sugar addict...; the only thing that saves me with regards to the sugar alcohols stuff that makes the same taste BUT gives stomach cramps, diareeha etc....(how do i know)...i have tried...i have over done...bad bad addict...

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

I am diabetic and have found the same thing about the stomach and intestinal problems. If I eat one too many of anything that is "sugar free" I really pay the price.

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

the article goes on the say that the new peeps

are sort of a crime against nature, though they are, but because they consist largely of maltitol, isomalt, polyglycitol syrup and sorbitol —”sugar alcohols” required to carry a warning that excess consumption may have a laxative effect.

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

i 'ruined' a vacation to san francisco cause i overdosed on 'sugar free' chocolate and had cramps and other things i will not mention to where my hubbie was not happy with me

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

the article goes on to say...

The Splenda Peep lacks the required sugar crust and does not do well for those (LIKE ME) who prefer an aged Peep. The outer covering is smooth, with no discernible grit and has strange looking translucent flakes. It made me sad.

No lovely crunchy crust? Sorry, Peeps, that’s a dealbreaker.

cant try them...no crunchy crust....whomever wrote that is TRULY a peep afficiando...is it someone that is participating in this thread? ok....speak up...who wrote the article(grin)

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Sugar-free Peeps give you the poops?

What a bummer!

Can't they produce a poop free peeper?

LOL

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

wuvie only you.....he he your funny:)

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I would rather rub salt in a sore than eat a peep. LOL They are the so nasty.

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

I don't know that I would go as far as rubbing salt any place, but I sure don't like peeps. They are just pure sugar and preservatives. They are cute, and I have really enjoyed following this thread. Some of these exchanges are hysterical.
