Thats a really nice pic. Like the look on the Cards face.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Yup. White Throated. I posted the same bird for and I.D. last week somewhere else on the forum, so it's one of the TWO sparrows I can now I.D. ! :)

Thanks pelletory, for the info and the comments! I had a lot of female cardinals today, they were a little cranky though, several little squabbles broke out between them but they got along with every one else :-)

Here's a Dark Eyed Junco (I think) I've had a hard time getting photos of them because they're usually running around so much. I've never seen them on any of the feeders, just on the ground.

brrrr look at that snow. Poor birdies

Marlton, NJ

Thats a nice pic of the Junco. Mine were always on the ground only at first but now they go to all the feeders. They love the thistle feeder the best but I've seen them eating suet too.

Great photos Sadie_mae!

Shelia - Loved the woodpecker photo! I LOL about the BBQ nest! Too funny!

Heres a pic of one on the seed block.

Deb ~ I'm pretty sure I've got a another kind too, I'll have to get a pic of it, maybe I can tell them apart now that I've got a better pic to study and a name to put with it.

I like living in KY with the changing seasons and all but when the snow's flying, I miss the years I lived outside of Jackson, MS....cutting Christmas trees in shorts :-) I think it snowed 1 time in the 11 or so years I lived there.

Thanks pelletory, maybe mine will eventually make it off of the ground!

Here's another pic of the jay, this time he's sampling the peanut butter suet, good thing he's got a tight grip on the feeder!

Thanks Becky!

I like your cage feeder, pelletory, I'll have to look around here and see if I can find one with the drop down sides.

I've got one of those HUGE cage feeders (like a suet feeder) that would hold a big block of something, maybe a big seed block. Walmart had them on clearance last summer for $2.00 but didn't have any blocks that big to put in them....I wish we had a bird or pet store close...maybe if they ever get the Tractor Supply opened, they'll have something. If I used one of those, will the perching birds hang on them to eat or would i need to fix some kind of perch...what do you think?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You don't have to have a big seed block for it, a small block will be eaten just as easy. I used to make the suet up and pour it in double paper cupcake papers in muffin tins. Then I could drop several down in a suet feeder. All blocks will eventually drop to the bottom anyway.

Sadie, the pic of the bluejay upside down is funny! As for the suet tree, it is hanging to keep my dogs from taking it over!

That wren in the BBQ, kept going in and out from end to end. Finally when I saw it fly to the suet feeder I went out and check inside. No nest yet, but I told DH to open it before starting it up next time! The wren watched me lift the lid and I told her/him not to be thinking it would make a good home; after that, I haven't seen it go inside. DH said he thought it was hanging out behind the shop, lots of flower pots and garden tools to hid in there under the overhang.

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

Shelia, thanks for the suggestion. I just checked and I've got 2 of them, LOL, I never could pass up a good sale :-)

All of my feeders and gardens are outside of the "dogs yard" or nothing would be safe! I'd like to have a window feeder but don't want to torment the dogs or endanger the birds :-) I've got a little beagle that thinks she's a bird dog, when the buzzards fly over she goes running and howling at them, I think she'd have a heart attack if she knew how big they are up close, LOL!

We've got some kind of wrens that live and nest in DH's shop during the summer. I've tried to take pics but they go into a panic when I go in there and only land way up in the rafters, where it's too dark to get a shot. I don't know if they're around during the winter, I've never seen any at the feeders.

Ravens are very fond of fast food restaurants. Today its dinner at McDonald's. Hay guys there is a banquet in here. I'll bring some out for you fellows.

Wow! I didn't realize how big they are.

I don't see anything left, in the bottom of the bag. Throw another one down here.

Deb, I took these pic's specifically to show how large Ravens are. They are much larger than crows.

This is my first bird pic to post on this forum. I had lots of birds this morning but they just would not be still long enough to photo. A nuthatch just fly out of the view. A pair of cardinal were feeding too but they didn't stay around.

Well its a very nice pic. I know what you mean, I had a heck of a time with a Chickadee this afternoon.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Great pics gang! I've been so busy outside lately haven't had much chance to post. It's been really warm, and I had garden feever, lol!
Didn;t stop this guy from his/her daily rounds though.. freaks all the birdies out swooping around and then perchin on the fence like he's at a fast food resturante'. In the last week there have been a few different hawks. There was a Kestrel 2 blocks away, but I was driving..not gonna try that lol!

This one landed right on top of the rose bush I am taking the picture through here.. and I think it hurt... Might be a while before he tries that again.

Nice pic of the Sharpie Deb!

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

Wow, I'm so jealous of all the neat hawk pictures you guys get lol!! I am also jealous of your good weather Deb! I went outside today to try and get rid of some grass in preparation of a new bed but only lasted 30 minutes. It was too cold and windy for me. (wimpywimpywimpy)

I just got a few pics today.

Very nice pics lily! I didn't know you had a fence.

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

Actually, that's part of my disgusting back deck. I always tell people that if it gets any worse it will be featured in Country Living magazine lolol! It is due to be redone but not till after the kitchen and downstairs. So watch for it in CL in the next few years ha ha.

Marlton, NJ

Hahaha!

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, lilyfantn
Does your hanging platform feeder have a screen bottom? I had one that didn't and it retained to much water and the seeds would get mildewy.

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

Yes, it does. But I still have to clean it pretty regularly to avoid that in this humid climate.

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

The Koel is a very shy bird, so very hard to get anywhere close to it. I managed this shot using a bino-zoom technique from my window as it had already sensed my movement and moved on the branches to 'hide'.

Thumbnail by Dinu
Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Dinu, it has his eye on you! I looked up the Koel and found it is a brood parasite like our brown-headed cowbirds. Just another part of Mother Nature's plan of survival, but very interesting to watch and learn from.
Good shot, we look for more of your bird pics to come.
Sheila

Marlton, NJ

Hi Dinu, Thanks for showing us a new bird. Please do post more pics anytime you like!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Right on Dinu!
Nice hiding Koel pic...Birds can much more challenging to take pics of than flowers, etc. They have minds of their own, lol.
Reminds me of a little kid hiding their eyes saying, "you can't see me!"

Take some more pics of your India Birds, we would love to see them!

Deb

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Dinu, that's wonderful . . . I too hope to see more photos from you. I need to ask what a "bino-zoom technique" is.

Marlton, NJ

I think its binoculars connected to camera.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Wow - I would never have guessed that would work!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

The Siskins are here - cute little birds!!! They sure do like the thistle stockings. The one in the background is almost empty, but they're making sure they get the last of the thistle out of the toe!

Thumbnail by Murmur
Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

They also are interested in the sunflower seeds. Notice the opening in the feeder has been "enlarged." I'll show whom I think one of the culprits might be on another post.

Thumbnail by Murmur
Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

When the Hairy Woodpecker gets on this feeder, he or she literally just spill most of the seed to the ground. I had thought it might have been a rodent emptying it so quickly, but then I saw this gal and watched it spilling. I love the feeder itself - it's really pretty and I hate to see it ruined.

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Murmur, about that 'bino zoom', that's how I got that funny picture of the Eagle's claws on your Eagle thread. You just hold the camera against the eyepiece of binoculars or a telescope. It's a little shaky but it works
